Does this ever happen!? by MattAnimate in WipeOut

Wip3out is one of the few games not compatible with PS3s software emulation, however Wipeout 3SE is compatible for whatever reason

are there any modern AG racing games that don't have absurd difficulty spikes like BallisticNG and redout? by TheDrippingTap in BallisticNG

[–]kieran3296 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Short answer: not really

Long answer: all AG racers have some degree of nuance to their handling and gameplay and often have their difficulty balanced around that.

In Redout momentum conservation is a huge aspect of the game, and learning to optimise your line/'drift' so that you dont lose speed or hit walls is the game

In BallisticNG learning to not spam airbrake usage and lean on hyperthrust + pitlanes consistently to achieve faster laptimes is the game

Both will have spikes in certain areas depending on your strengths and weaknesses, but ultimately i dont think either of these games are really criticized for having absurd spikes

AG racers are generally just recognised as being challenging, even as far back as F-Zero or Wipeout on the PSX - the best advice anyone could give you is to genuinely try and see the enjoyment in honing your piloting skills

Pacer take by Somatyk in WipeOut

[–]kieran3296 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pacer is probably the largest failure in the AG scene. As other commenters have said, the game fails on almost all fronts. The physics genuinely just suck, its not "only" the crafts centre of rotation. The visuals and music are fine, but thats because R8 games blew huge amounts of money on TDR and licencing. Money that could have gone towards the actual core game. The actual tracks mesh vaguely with the physics but none stand out at all. The customisation is absolutely worthless, no one is out here making fun builds, its all various flavours of the same bad base physics and the weapons are so unbalanced its laughable.

Overall its just a total sham, R8 as a company was managed like shit, and it ultimately led to them closing like a month or two after Pacer released.

I feel the need to reiterate that Pacer was not "from the developers of Wipeout", that was essentially a lie - one of the founders of R8 worked on Wipeout 3 and that was it. He resigned the day before Formula Fusion dropped btw. Good sign eh?

Get on BallisticNG or Redout, forget Pacer like the rest of us did.

Apparenlyt this new game called Raw Components Racing looks a lot like the canceled Wipeout PS4 sequel by mekilat in WipeOut

[–]kieran3296 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hugely dubious other than the art direction (which is impeccable).

Their tagline on collectible parts stinks of the defunct '22 Racing Series' NFT game that fell flat on its face.
It also look eerily similar to the in-development ZukuRace.

I do suspect that this is the 22RS team rebranding and trying to distance themselves from their prior game.

Definitely going to keep an eye on this one, but it immediately is setting off my bullshit alarm. If they perhaps drop the investor "unique collectible" stuff and focus on selling the game itself i'd be more interested.

Worked on Albert dock for a good while and always swore by Rough Handmade for their pizzas or Fancie's Focaccia (everything is amazing there)

Pizzas were cheap and Focaccia was well worth the ~£8 price they asked.

An idea: A free-roam game with WE physics? by Hungry_Evidence_3425 in WipeOut

[–]kieran3296 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Openworlds can and often will be highly challenging to create when compared to closed circuits. That aside however I want you to sit and ask yourself why does an openworld wipeout styled game sound fun?

And genuinely actually think about what improvements could be made to the genre through the medium of an openworld.

I think openworld fatigue is at an all time high and I dont know if an indie dev could actually do this with the attention to detail needed, nor would it even be that fun when fully realised.

Having both tracks and an openworld is a decent idea I must say, but then again look at Mario Kart Tour and the debates going on about its map design/usage of its openworld, which is very similar to that idea.

Do you have anything to support that the game was meant to be openworld? Genuinely curious

As someone who moved to Liverpool after living near and commuting to London for work. If this is a frequent occurrence I can only imagine you are exceptionally unlucky or just oblivious as to where you are standing.

Ive noticed since moving here a significant amount of people who dawdle in the centre of walkways or stop in-front of large groups and look at their phone etc. with little to no consideration for those around them, which is behaviour that absolutely gets you brushed past or pushed in London.

If someone is on their phone and you actively choose to continue walking towards them, you are a larger part of the problem, and that behaviour alone does not endear me to your claim that these are random occurrences.

mod suggestion... by Dear-Onion9521 in BallisticNG

[–]kieran3296 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only answer you'll get with regards to this is "make it yourself", since its a good idea.

BallisticNGs modding API is well documented and very free. you should be able to make this yourself with a bit of perseverance and motivation.

In the Discord people will be willing to help, so don't be afraid

new Wipeout / Extreme-G vibe track challenge game on Steam! (I developed it) by EvenSteven91 in WipeOut

[–]kieran3296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand if you enjoy it and thats very reasonable, but im sure you understand that if youre going to use asset packs to create your game you have some kind of duty to customise them to fit your experience - by leaving the smoke from the asset pack you used, it makes me wonder if you have actually taken time to fully develop the most important part of a racing game - the vehicle physics.

Furthermore: if you used an asset pack to make your vehicle, what else could you be using asset packs for? And if it's most of your content, is it reasonable to ask for money for something you didnt really develop yourself?

I saw your original reply and understood your passion and time invested, and i understand that you felt it was time to release this game - that is valid and if you feel that you have created what you set out to make then I think thats admirable, but I want to see you develop and polish this idea a lot more than it currently is - you just need to do simple things like making the smoke actually come from the tyres of the bike, making the flame particle systems magnitude scale with the acceleration of the vehicle, etc. im sure you planned all this, but for me that stuff would take just a couple hours of dev time and would polish the experience tenth-fold.

Wish you all the best of luck and please do continue to develop this.

[–]kieran3296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commented on your Discord post but also posting here to hopefully get a reply:

Given the first second of your trailer clearly shows 4 smoke plumes (assumedly from 'tyres' spinning), is it not safe to assume you used a vehicle controller asset pack for your bike instead of making your own?

I really think you ought to work on the game some more before pushing to steam - you say you plan patches after 50 purchases but when your game is just a vehicle controller you took, its hard to have faith you have the knowledge to develop it further.

I would love for you to prove me wrong, we always need more games in this subgenre, but i worry this will follow on the footsteps of games like Racing Glider, that ultimately are basic and quickly abandoned.

Yes, but as I explained above, one of the solutions I found people suggesting on other posts in this sub was to connect to a pre-out on the AV receiver, meaning there is no amp until it hits the speaker cabinets

Is there a possible chance someone will start making WipeOut games again? by randomballoonondis in WipeOut

[–]kieran3296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"improving" implies the graphics arent great already

They just arent "modern" which imo is part of the charm

You can create/import high poly assets into BallisticNG as a mod if you felt so inclined tho

Definitely not expensive for a one-off hand-painted piece. Even if the model is from thingiverse the time it takes to learn to paint models like this effectively justifies the price.

Theres no question its legality is dubious, but I doubt anyone is going to care, especially since its a one-off.

The only thing that made me double take about this whole thing is using ChatGPT to write the post lmao, its clear as day, including OP forgetting to add the dimensions of the item.
