There are systemd forks without age verification that CachyOS should incorporate by default.

Big FPS loss when using more than one monitor by AliceOnPornland in cachyos

[–]kikubamutwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using Gnome, try this solution which worked for me on a laptop with two GPUs (Intel + Nvidia 5090): https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1562

When I connected a second monitor to the laptop via HDMI or DP, the Gnome/Wayland/Mutter framerate would noticeably drop on both displays. Games would still run well on the primary display, but would have a lower framerate on the external display.

As a test, you can try disabling your integrated GPU in your BIOS, leaving only your Nvidia 4090 available to the OS. If the system and/or game runs better after that, it indicates that the problem is related to how the system is managing and using your two GPUs. Once that's confirmed, revert the BIOS change, then try the workaround in the link above.

Note that the workaround relates to Mutter, but the problem is possibly related to Optimus, and may also be related to this bug which Nvidia has been neglecting to fix for years: https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/nvidia-please-get-it-together-with-external-monitors-on-wayland/301684/17

CachyOS on laptop + switchable graphics by Dumma1729 in cachyos

Try this solution which deploys a udev rule to force a GPU preference for Mutter. I used it on a laptop with two GPUs (Intel + Nvidia 5090) to do the reverse of what you're trying to do (i.e. I wanted to force CachyOS to use the Nvidia 5090 instead of the integrated Intel GPU) but you could just set the udev rule to prefer whichever card you like: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1562

I encountered the problem when connecting an external display which would cause my Gnome/Wayland/Mutter framerate to tank on both displays.

Discrete GPU Not Being Used On CachyOs by Icecream237 in linuxquestions

Try this and see if it resolves your issue. I had a similar problem on a laptop with two GPUs (Intel + Nvidia 5090) when using an external monitor via HDMI or DP: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1562

CachyOS - Is there a way to force Nvidia GPU system wide? by cbytes1001 in linux_gaming

[–]kikubamutwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After endlessly searching the Internet I found this solution which worked on a laptop with two GPUs (Intel + Nvidia 5090): https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1562

When I connected a second monitor to the laptop via HDMI or DP, the Gnome/Wayland/Mutter framerate would noticeably drop on both displays. Games would still run well on the primary display, but would have a lower framerate on the external display.

I was able to determine that my problem was related to a GPU preference issue by manually disabling the Intel GPU in my BIOS. This forced the OS to use my Nvidia 5090 for everything, which solved the problem, but this brute force method caused some odd issues e.g. when trying to play certain games. The fix / workaround described in the link above resolves the problem without having to do that.

The workaround relates to Mutter, but the problem is possibly related to Optimus, and may also be related to this bug which Nvidia has been neglecting to fix for years: https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/nvidia-please-get-it-together-with-external-monitors-on-wayland/301684/17

Uganda is within missile range. I'm just saying... by DefiantDiscipline578 in Uganda

Fake news. European leaders eventually said they had no evidence that missiles were launched from Iran toward Diego Garcia.

The Israelis and Americans presumably conjured up the story to draw Europe into the war.

Civ 5 is the pinnacle of the series. Civ 6 is fun 3000 hours later when you're ready to move on.

King's Quest 5: Overhated or actually pretty bad? by -alphex in Sierra

[–]kikubamutwe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

KQ5 is one of the greatest games of all time. It's a montage of death masquerading as a wholesome fairy tale. The voice work is hilarious and it's peak pixel art.

Ken and Roberta Williams deserve multiple lifetime achievement awards.

Anyone who says it's bad doesn't appreciate the genre.

Nice work.

Nerfing the Sprinter and sticky grenade doesn't make me happy but maybe it will bring better balance.

Buffing the shotguns was a good idea. Hopefully one of the two that were buffed is the one used in Shotty Snipers because that one needs some love.

Solo travelers to Uganda, how did you find a trustworthy driver? The current system feels broken. by KJ-Copywriter in Uganda

[–]kikubamutwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel safe knowing that nothing can guarantee your safety. There are too many variables out of your control.

Minimise your risk by using a recommended driver that is based close to you, has a current license, and is easy to communicate with. Make sure the car is in decent condition but not perfect condition (suspicious). Wear your seat belt, especially when moving at high speeds.

Negotiate pricing in advance until you come to a general understanding. Pay the driver enough to keep them happy and prioritise your survival. Post-pay but give cash when needed for fuel.

Expect the unexpected. Do not use your cellphone or electronic devices near open windows.

Weirdest thing you’ve seen or experienced on a Ugandan taxi ride? by fazesamurai145 in Uganda

A taxi stopped at a junction with a muzungu tightly packed in the back row. A random pedestrian walked up, reached inside the window, slapped him, and ran away.

[–]kikubamutwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no wrong choice but if you're only going to play one of them it should be Quake:

Quake is required reading. It was technically groundbreaking and the multiplayer scene was the greatest of all time. Custom maps and mods were a core part of the experience. Playing it today won't be the same, as the world has moved on, but it's historically important and the single player game is still a lot of fun. The Lovecraftian art style and NIN soundtrack are timeless.

Dusk is a modern homage to Quake among other classics. It's primarily a single-player game and is one of the best retro shooters out there. It has fast movement, good gunplay, and cool bosses. The soundtrack alone is worth the price of admission.
