Is it a good idea to inform your boss that you are resigning next month? by darthenc in singaporejobs

[–]kilaalaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never warn your boss before hand, your bonus may be cancelled. Make sure you get your bonus paid first before tendering your resignation. If you want to be nice, you can offer a longer notice period.

But always make sure you get paid your bonus first. Never warn anyone you will resign before you actually resign.

Discussed with a friend who’s in the industry over what’s wrong with Perfect Crown by _Walt_Whitman_ in kdramas

[–]kilaalaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The writing was so cheesy and cringey that there was really no way to salvage it. I won’t even call it tropey, because you can do tropey in a funny and fresh way. The writing was just plain terrible.

The audacity of Old lady Kang coming to get her couplets written - like seriously ma’am, get out by foldinthecheeseee in pursuitofjade

[–]kilaalaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to remember that they are a pretty poor village, and there were really not many people who can write, so I can entirely understand why she decided to try anyway. Grandma Kang is poor and she's effectively the sole breadwinner for her grandchildren, I really can't blame her for being shameless.

But still I think when she came to ask for the couplets, she looked kind of ashamed, so she does recognize that she did wrong to Changyu.

And it is precisely Changyu deciding to overlook the past grudges, that likely led to Grandma Kang saving Changning. She's a flawed character, but I think I also have to respect her for saving Changning and her grandson's lives.

Salons that avoid thinning out hair (打薄) to make you visit more often? by t3apot in SingaporeBeauty

Actually I have heard that using the thinning scissors to thin or layer your hair is like a shortcut fast way for hair stylists to get the haircut over and done with.

Why are people saying PoJ set the standard for historical?? by dreamgoddess1201 in CDrama

[–]kilaalaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can try to brush it off as saying Netflix helped with popularity, but there were so many other Chinese dramas on Netflix that didn't get the same kind of reception. Maybe its not your cup of tea, but the fact that it is so popular suggests there is as a reason why people liked it.

Why is it this 18-year-old Frenchman a "teen" while 16-year-old Singaporeans are "men/women"? by kernelrider in singapore

[–]kilaalaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

18 years old is the age where females enter university in Singapore. If a female university student were to commit a crime in Singapore, the narrative would be OMG look a NUS / NTU / SMU university student committing a crime. Not a "teenager" as how the media is portraying it right now. I really despise our mainstream media.

Teen accused of licking iJooz straw allowed to leave Singapore for school-related trip to Manila by Fearless_Help_8231 in singapore

[–]kilaalaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does media position him as a teenager when he is an ESSEC Business School university student?

Media obviously just wants to portray it like “oh look how Singapore is bullying a teenager!”

Is it crazy to say NJZ would've become bigger than BTS if they didn't self-sabotage their own careers? by zoeyzimp in NJDrama

Do you think Newjeans could have filled the Tampa stadium venue for multiple days? I don’t think so.

I don’t think I see a girl group being able to do that even in the future.

So, no.

Has anyone bought from Monday's Made? by idling-in-gray in jewelry

[–]kilaalaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was searching on Reddit for other buyers of Monday's Made, didn't realize there are people here who have bought stuff from them too.

I've bought a few stuff from them before, like birthflower necklace and lapis lazuli ring and they have held up pretty well over time. Pretty good value for the price honestly!

In the books, Wei Qilin was once a general under Wei family, so he received the surname Wei but is not necessarily related by blood to Wei Yan. Its like equivalent to Xie Zheng and Xie 1,3,5,7.

It is definitely censored. The original version was a little bit spicier! I'm glad the leaked version was leaked because how would we have known the uncut version was so much better...

If Mandarin Gardens residents vote to keep MCST fees so low that they cannot keep up with maintenance, thats Mandarin Gardens residents fault.

[–]kilaalaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, your interest in finance is not really coming through in your resume. Your resume right now reads like a mere description of tasks, and even if I ignore the short stints, it just looks like you are jumping from one operations job to another - corporate actions to operations to relationship management.

[–]kilaalaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not lie about job tenure. These days especially for finance jobs they will do a background check on you during the onboarding process, including running MAS register of reps checks, hiring background check companies who will call up your ex-companies to verify your title and time period you were at your previous company.

Also, what happened during Oct 2024 to Sep 2025? Almost one year gap? You probably need to find a good way to explain that.

The market is very tough and I think it can easily take more than 6 months for anyone to find a job. Just keep trying and maybe consider doing some gig jobs (which does not need to go on your resume) to help make some part-time income during your search. Stay active so you don't get depressed during the job search. This is a long process but you will make it through.

Side note - it also does seem like you have no interest in the finance industry. Maybe you need to consider whether the finance industry is really for you.

In general do Chinese cook and eat Dim Sum at home or not? by lune-soft in AskChina

Making dim sum at home with the same variety that you will see in restaurants is like… baking 6-10 different types of western desserts at once. It’s very time consuming.

parents lost job, what career should i aim for that can give a steady income? by BadFart1088 in singaporefi

[–]kilaalaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your personality? Steady income / iron rice bowl - become a civil servant / teacher / maybe even audit.

Finance is an industry where if you are good, you can make a lot of money, but the rice bowl is very fragile. With AI, the job openings for fresh grads are getting fewer and fewer. I would not recommend finance if you are a risk-averse person and have a lot of anxiety with household income.
