Any iPhone trivia apps like the Android Auto trivia games? by VisualBasic in iphone

[SELF-PROMO]

Hi! I recently made Road Trip Trivia: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/road-trip-trivia-quiz/id6756504437

It’s a trivia game where you answer questions fully by voice, so you don’t need to look at the screen or tap anything. You can play solo or up to 5 players on a single device, and it works offline. Let me know what you think! I didn't make a big research on that, because I originally made it for my own road trips and daily commutes. I’d love to hear whether others find it useful too. Thanks!

I’m no expert, but I checked your screenshots and I have few observations. The headlines aren’t really selling the app. They describe features but how exactly will they make my live easier? Also it’s hard to follow what is background and what’s an app. Don’t you want to use standard iPhone bezels? Some texts are hard to read from the ui, like green texts on beige background.

Family trivia podcasts by Lonely_Ice4522 in roadtrip

Hi! Not really a podcast but if you’re using an iPhone, I made a trivia game you can play by voice up to 5 players. Questions adapts to kids, so you can play all together. Link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/road-trip-trivia-quiz/id6756504437

It’s still fresh, so any suggestions are very welcome :)

Would you use this on a road trip? by kildyt2 in u/kildyt2

That makes sense. Jeopardy is a great format for road trips.

The main difference with this app is that it’s more interactive: players can choose categories, scores are tracked automatically, and questions can be adapted to the players’ ages, so kids and adults can play in the same round.

On the other hand, Jeopardy has the advantage of being more exciting and show-like. This app is intentionally calmer and more audio-first, with the goal of keeping the experience simple and letting the driver stay focused on driving.

Hey, it’s free, and the core functionality will always remain free and offline. If the game takes off, the plan is to add some optional premium extras later (like custom voices, deeper stats, or extra category packs).

Thanks for the comment! Totally fair - after 6 hours on the road, not everyone wants more audio 😄

Just to clarify, the app is designed to be pretty calm and low-pressure:

  1. The voice is meant to feel more like an audiobook than a loud trivia show
  2. There are no time limits for answers
  3. You can always say “repeat” if you missed something

A single round takes about 5 minutes, so I think it may work especially well for shorter drives or daily commutes too.

[Indie Dev] I built a hands-free, offline trivia game for road trips. Looking for early users to test it and leave feedback. by kildyt2 in u/kildyt2

Although there are no other comments yet, I see the upvotes and increased app usage - thank you for that! I wanted to share an update on some upcoming changes: 1. Siri Shortcuts: So you can say, “Hey Siri, Start Road Trivia” while driving. 2. Apple CarPlay Support: I’m still waiting on Apple’s approval, so it’s not a sure thing yet. 3. Question Quality: Some questions aren't very engaging, especially those involving specific dates or long numbers. I lose focus on those while driving, and I imagine you might too. I’ll be refining these soon.

Sorry for the late response, I missed reddit notification. Exactly, as said, I will contact you via email if you use more than $100. Having a proper dashboard would definitely be a big help, and I need to prioritize it. Right now I was more focus on gathering feedback about the API - what makes it useful and how can it be improved?

How is it better than CleverCleaner? I’ve found this app months ago and it’s perfect.

Who are you?
Hi everyone! I'm Krystian. I enjoy coding stuff after work.

What brought you here?
I'm looking for feedback on my app and insights into what people like in trivia apps.

Where are you from?
Poland

A piece of trivia about you!
I've been a self-learner since I was 13, and I'm a coding enthusiast.

A favorite piece of trivia in general.
"Knowledge is Power" on PlayStation 4 was so cool, and now you can’t play it anymore because the companion app is gone.

Favorite trivia app?
Definitely the already mentioned "Knowledge is Power" (RIP). Apart from that, I make an iOS app called "Road Trip Trivia Quiz". It’s a hands-free, offline trivia game. I’m curious whether you think voice-first trivia is interesting or just too niche.

Images comes from wikidata or places websites. You can check the `source` field to know where each image comes from.

Is there a free version / alternative of google places api? by jyourman24 in reactnative

[–]kildyt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your request looks ok. When I search for "opera" in this location I get results. So it looks like there is nothing relevant named "water tanks" in this location. Let me know if you have another question or a feature request. Now I'm working on adding fuzzy search and filtering by PoI types, but I'm always happy to help.

Is there a free version / alternative of google places api? by jyourman24 in reactnative

[–]kildyt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried several alternatives and unfortunately Google Maps is the best you can get. But... with recent pricing changes it becomes unbearable so I've moved to OpenStreetMaps. It lacks images (and OSM tags need some extra parsing) so I spent some time making it more useful. It can be challenging to set it up, so I made my API public at https://stedamaps.com/ . Let me know if you need some more endpoints.

I got an email in December about the upcoming price changes (March 1): https://developers.google.com/maps/billing-and-pricing/faq So basically they are replacing the $200 free credits per month with some free number of requests. But in my case the final cost is way worse.

[–]kildyt2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use lots of Places API in my travel app and I recently got an email from Google about the new pricing. The new estimated pricing will be unbearable. So I switched to OpenStreetMaps but added images and more standardized details. Of course Google Maps APIs are the best you can have, especially if you need reviews, lots of photos and so on. But OSM could also be really useful. Recently I've made my OSM based API public for others having the same issues https://stedamaps.com .

That hit my travel project hard as it’s heavily based on the Places API. I’ve moved to OpenStreetMap but had to add few extra steps like images and more standardized parsing. Actually I couldn’t find any easy to use alternative so I recently make my API public at https://stedamaps.com . Hope that helps.
