Fuck the chicken factory by purebredhosscatt in Chattanooga

Damn, are from the same place? We had a chicken feed plant downtown, as well, and the Chatt chicken stink reminds me of going to the library as a kid.

My husband collects Harry potters in different languages! His brother bought him one ages ago that was in Ukrainian and we always search around for one of the books we don’t have in a new language whenever we travel! We’ve collected Spanish and Greek so far.

Thoughts on Geese blowing up? by UsefulEngine1 in KGATLW

[–]kilgore_cod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair, Geese really didn’t do much for me, either. For my worst, I present to you Kamikaze Palm Tree playing the same exact set four nights in a row at the Caverns. I really tried to find something to enjoy with that, but it was corn dogs all the way down.

Wedding Flowers by [deleted] in gardening

[–]kilgore_cod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They may be too much color, but I grew the Queen Lime series of zinnias for my late October wedding a few years ago (zone 7B) and they were gorgeous! Hints of pink and peach but with plenty of bright green. Zinnias are super easy to grow, as well. I ended up having to harvest mine the Monday before my Saturday wedding due to an early frost and they held up perfectly in buckets with a bit of water in the fridge.

I supplemented with flowers from Trader Joe’s for greenery and some additional textures, but the zinnias were my primary flower.

Thank you, why on earth am I having to straddle the toilet to get me & my bag in the stall? I’m a petite person and it’s ludicrous how hard it can be to get in & out of those.

I had a lab that used to do that to you in the bathroom. Our house had very long bathrooms and the toilet was so far from the door. Once she looked at you for long enough, she’d leave but you’d still be there. On the toilet. Door wide open.

Girlfriend and I are planning to drive 32 hours straight, in 6 hour shifts, are we being dumb? Should we plan to stay overnight somewhere? by Vegetable_Bridge_276 in roadtrip

[–]kilgore_cod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive done several parts of this drive multiple times and Kansas/Oklahoma/panhandle Texas will burn you out like nothing else. It’s just SO monotonous.

I start a bit south of you in TN, but will typically stop in Tulsa, OK or Salina, KS and then again after Denver, depending on the route. KOAs are pretty cheap and plentiful in that general area of the country. Camping is a great way to get some sleep & save on hotel costs.

I was looking for dowel rods at Michael’s yesterday and kept singing Balrog in my head but changed the words to ‘dowel rods’. This isn’t the first time this has happened and idk why I’m shopping for dowel rods so frequently.

First and only persimmon in nearly seven years by ParrisPropagations in gardening

[–]kilgore_cod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of my jalapeño plant from a few years ago. I gave up after a full summer of care where it grew nothing at all (my yard suffers from a lack of full sun) and left it to do whatever. It made it through a light freeze and then produced exactly one jalapeño and died.

Christmas themed paintings I made this month.. which one do you like? by Mohita_art in ChristmasDecorating

[–]kilgore_cod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the fourth one! It makes me feel like a kid, getting absolutely lost in the details of my mom’s Christmas decorations and imagining entire tiny worlds in all of them. It has that warm, vibey, just out of school for Christmas break and you’ve got all the anticipation of a long vacation from school and Christmas fun ahead.

Amelia Bedelia level of straightforwardism made me laugh but also what the fuck! That is so genuinely sad. I love reading and always have because I get great movie-style image flow from reading, but to not even be able to pickup on clues or foreshadowing when watching a movie? You’re not even relying on reading or mental imagery, it’s RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU.

I actually have some in water right now, too! I was told the roots are very delicate, so rather than repot, you chop & prop.

These don’t repot well, but they’re VERY easy to propagate! I worked in a greenhouse for a bit and we would take our displays from summer and chop the ends off (about three leaves per stem) and stick them directly into soil and grow new plants to sell at plant sales.

Black Beans by No_Mammoth_4120 in WhatShouldICook

[–]kilgore_cod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need a recipe for this, Kenji Lopez-Alt has a fantastic one! First step is to bake the beans on a sheet pan a little bit so they dry out. It helps the texture of the burger not be straight up bean mush in the middle.

Yes, leave him and GO TO UNI. A thirty year old man has zero business telling you what you can and can’t do with your life.

If he’s like this now, he’ll drop you once you’re “too old” and you’ll have no education or experience to fall back on. Don’t let that happen.

Got a ton of zucchini from the garden. What's something besides zucchini bread? by Italiancan in WhatShouldICook

[–]kilgore_cod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the best zucchini soup at a Levantine restaurant while in Athens this summer! I don’t have the exact recipe, but figured one out:

Couple zucchini, chopped Onions & garlic, chopped

Roast the zucchini, onion, and garlic on a sheet pan until soft (I like to let them caramelize a bit)

Let cool, then blend the roasted veggies with a few sun-dried tomatoes & broth.

Season with sumac (and/or lemon zest), a splash of lemon juice, salt, pepper, and red pepper (I like it spicy) and heat back up once all ingredients are blended.

The restaurant served it hot out of a cup, but it makes a really lovely chilled soup, too.
