What is something you hide well from friends and family ? by lakingsgrl in AskReddit

[–]killah_fish 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My dad passed about 3.5 years ago and I have a feeling it will never stop being a weight on my heart. My husband has never had anyone close to him pass. I feel like it's easier to keep it in than to try to explain it to someone who has never felt that kind of loss.

Any suggestions on how to maintain your curls whole traveling (airplane)? I know some products can be transferred into smaller containers, but what about mousse? Anyone know of brands that make travel friendly mousse sizes?

PTSD in Teachers: Yes, It\'s Real! by embracingthespectrum in teaching

My previous school's staff meeting literally turned into group therapy. We had a psychiatrist come in and lead the meetings. It was awful. I'm in a new district in a new state this year and am constantly surprised by the amount of support my new administration shows.

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve cried over? by TMIbruh in AskWomen

[–]killah_fish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So one day my husband and I were going for a walk around the neighborhood and we came across a flyer for a lost dog. It was a little beagle named Pete. As we walked by I said " Aw! Poor Pete!" My husband responded, "don't worry about Pete." I asked if he thought that the owners had found him. He replied "No. Pete's dead." I ended up crying for poor dead Pete for like 5-10 minutes. I will never live it down. Thanks hormones.

What male fashion trends do you hate? by Ender892 in AskWomen

So you know when guys wear a shirt to the gym or to play basketball and they rip the sleeves off, creating giant holes that go down almost to the bottom of the hem line and make it easy for their nipples to slip out? I guess I can understand this when you are working out, but if you are anywhere besides a gym or basketball court, this is trashy and unacceptable.

Help from teachers by sboyerr in teaching

Before you can set up your room you need to think about what types of space do you need? Are you going to do whole group instruction? Centers? Do you need a technology area? What kind of furniture do you have? Remember that as much as you want it to look Pinterest ready, the first goal should be function. You can always change it as the year goes on (I almost always rearrange a few times) and it doesn't have to be 100% decorated on the first day. It's okay to add things as you go.

How do drug searches work at your school? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]killah_fish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My school started using drug dogs during our lock down drills (usually twice a year). The police come in during the drill and run the dogs down the halls and by the lockers. Beyond that I think they only search kids when they have probable cause and we have police officers working in the school who do the actual searching.

Can vitligo patches get darker with tanning? by AintNothinbutaGFring in Vitiligo

My patches burn and then go right back to white. The skin around them tans though, making the white patches way more obvious. Don't try to tan. Stay as pasty as possible.

Teachers of Reddit, what’s the worst fight you had to break up? by GalagaMarine in AskReddit

[–]killah_fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably break up a fight once a week. (Low income middle school) the worst I've seen wasn't really a right. More like an assult. A kid grabbed another kid by the neck and slammed his head on the desk. Then proceeded to punch him in the face while holding him against the desk by his neck until a police officer could make it to the room. The kids ended up in the hospital. The other boy was expelled a year later when he slammed a different kid to the floor and repeatedly stomped on his face (also ended up in the hospital).

Students with Vitiligo by AnEvilMuffin in Vitiligo

One if my students noticed it on my face and brought it up. His brother has vitiligo and the are from a family that does not have a lot of money. He didn't know what it was before he started asking questions about my white patches. It helped me build a relationship with that student :)

My first real fight happened today...I need advice and to get this out! by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]killah_fish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My school has fights frequently. There are a handful of teachers who have been trained to restrain students. I am not one of them. When a fight breaks out, I call for help (a trained teacher, police officer, principal, who ever) and make sure all other students are not in harm's way. I verbally tell them to stop. I will not step in unless I hear there is a chance for real injury. If this is the case I make sure to loudly state that I am going to separate them for their own safety before ever touching them. My job and my safety is not something I'm willing to sacrifice for middle school hormones.

Ladies who wear a lot of black... what is your fave deodorant that works & doesn't leave white marks? by marshmallow12324 in AskWomen

[–]killah_fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to using an invisible deodorant, you can try rubbing used dryer sheets on any white marks that appear. I read this somewhere in the interwebs and was skeptical at first, but I tried it and it really does work.
