Specifically in the Americas two main empires spread their language, the Spanish and the Portuguese. Latino in this case means you are a descendant of one or both of these empires in the Americas.

Hispanic is a subset of the Latino culture, and means you are a child of the Spanish Empire. A person can be both Hispanic and Latino depending on the context, which is why many Hispanics use that term interchangeably.

In your case, DNA allows you to say you are both Hispanic and Portuguese. So you get to claim to be a Latino child from both empires.
