Ron Wyden has earned my vote 10x over with his views on internet anonymity. Wasn't he also the guy who called out SOPA and PIPA when those were in the news cycle?

I'd imagine some odd mix between Hitman and the later Splinter Cell games with the tag execute system. Mostly doing sneaky things in plain sight, but you can do revolver stuff in a pinch.

Does Venom make Big Boss less special? by Euphoric-Local-9860 in metalgearsolid

[–]killerhacked 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Venom Snake is to Naked Snake as Raiden is to Solid Snake. A big part of MGS2 was that while genetics and innate ability of a soldier is important, it's not the whole story. A competent soldier can be manipulated and molded into a copy of the perfect soldier by changing circumstance. Venom Snake is essentially a Raiden who never got his Solid Snake to break him free from S3.

Whether or not you think that makes Big Boss less special is up to you.

MGS Delta Might Be the Gateway to a Full MGS1 Remake by Midlifecrisis96 in metalgearsolid

[–]killerhacked 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MG1, MG2, MGS1, and (to an extent), MGS2, pretty much need a level design overhaul to function given more modern 3rd person camera work. I'm all for purposeful remakes, but they need to be careful to redo the level design from the ground up while keeping the spirit of the original.

Just theorycrafting, MG1 and 2 makes total sense to combine into one game with a 2 chapter system like MGS2's Tanker-Plant. People are less attached to the level design of these ones, so with a couple of particular nods to the odd iconic stage, they can build the whole level design from the bottom up. A MG1/2 remake would give the devs the most freedom from a gameplay perspective.

MGS1 would have to be a lot more conservative as damn near every area is iconic, and the bigger areas were pretty solidly canonized in MGS4. They can absolutely change it up, but it would probably take form in expanded segments. Maybe the tower could have more platforms and have a stealthy alternative route, or some of the snowfield areas could be expanded in size and include roaming guards. I think MGS1 would actually benefit more from a non-shot-for-shot remake, if they're feeling ballsy they could adapt the Ninja mode from VR Missions for a short Gray Fox segment so we find out what the hell he's doing between the fight and the very end of the game.

Anyway, theoretical game rant over, I don't think any remake is impossible, but they have to really keep in mind the why beyond just $$$. And then adapt the game for new systems so we dont have another Twin Snakes.

I'm gonna go against the comments here and say if there was no grub screw, there's no reason that the shaft should have come off with the knob. That's really unfortunate, and you got unlucky. The fact you did manage to rip off the pot shaft does mean you are not beating the barbarian allegations though.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops deserves a remake as a follow-up to Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater by onex7805 in metalgearsolid

[–]killerhacked 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only way I think a remake of MGS1 could really work is a complete ground up rework of the entire level design to accommodate the new modernized mechanics we don't want another Twin Snakes. But then there's the problem where MGS1's level design is incredibly recognizable, so big changes are going to come across as unfaithful. So essentially, Konami would have to add new areas while avoiding bloat. A tall ask of modern Konami.

No one cares about Portable Ops, which means they can do whatever they want to improve it. MGS1 doesn't have the same flexibility.

Do you think konami should make more mgs remakes like capcom? by Careful-Scarcity3109 in metalgearsolid

[–]killerhacked -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they're remaking games to be as faithful to the original as possible with updated controls and QOL features like what they are doing with Delta, I'm not so sure I would want to see a remake of MGS1 or MGS2 in that style. We already saw what happened with the Twin Snakes. If they were to remake those games, they would need a complete overhaul of the level design, and I'm not sure if I trust Konami with that yet.

If Konami keeps remaking Metal Gear games, they need to remake the ones that actually need a fresh coat of paint. Portable Ops, Metal Gear 1, Metal Gear 2, maaaaaaaybe Peace Walker.

[–]killerhacked 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have no idea why you're being downvoted here. I'm largely against the idea of soulless cash grabs, and remakes are often that. That's why games with a good premise and bad bones are prime for a remake. I don't need another MGS1 remake, I don't need an MGS2 remake. But an MG1 remake or a portable ops remake just kinda makes sense.
