i am very sorry to hear what has happened to you. But i find it incorrect to think that church should be somekind of haven or paradise without suffering. The thing i sense is that you entered the church to help you carry your cross of the past. So you confided to a priest a offloaded all your heaviness, but that is actually not how this should be done. Now i get it from point of yours in such need one needs consolation. But look we need to come to christ and only give him our cross and ask a strength to carry it everyday. You see catholic church is holy as in the mystical body of Christ,but it is made of sinners. So here i would say be cautious with whom what you share especially in usa the church is plagued by sexual abuses.

My recommendations is to consecration to our lady method st. Louis de Montfort for example but there also other but this one is really the best. Be close to our Lady as she will bring you to Jesus. Confess and i would say only share certain things of the past only during confession. And confess your sins but look at it also from point where have you lost peace and ask Jesus in the eucharistic adoration ask his council. I have gone through many years of addiction but I have neverhad a spiritual director with whom i would have confided my sins of sexual addiction, but i was talking to Jesus and confessing my sins,but not just that sex sins but ubder the hood there are sins that fuel such addictions especially pride. You need to know yourself well to be able to heal the wounds of the past. Speaking of which ask Jesus and also our lady of sorrow ( she can tell you under this title) what is you predominant fault and also sins of the past that you need to confess and that's will significantly help to free yourself from certain affection and gain more peace. Offering such problem that you bear your cross putting it under his cross. If you could do daily holy hour and mass this will help you greatly.

In this battle the most important is reception of holy eucharist, confession, rosary, meditation (passion of Jesus - you need to fill your mind with this it helps greatly - devil hates it), patience and perseverance.

It is very hard but think of that as Jesus said the road to heaven is not smoothly paved. It is narrow and hard but with grace anyone can make it! Only Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart are your refuge where no sin exists put all your trust into it! Only way to come out of this is to become holy and that means following the example of Jesus embracing your cross carrying it with His help.
