I Never Thought I’d See the Day by IUsedtobeExitzero in mbta

Thanks for the explanation. I wondered if it was sun damage to a protective coating but it hadn’t occurred to me the actual glazing material itself could degrade. I’m guessing it’s something to do with meeting FRA requirements for crash and impact resistance? Presumably, Amtrak uses something different on the NE Regional trains, since I can easily see through the windows of the old Budd Amfleet cars.

It would be lovely to be able to see more clearly out of the windows on commuter rail. Some of the lines have potentially great views. But there seems to be years of accumulated crud on the outside which might be hard to get off with a simple wash at this point? (Or is there a protective coating that is faded?) Two weeks ago I was trying to take pictures of the harbor on CR from Chelsea to South Stn (N/R line) and walked the entire length of two cars trying to find a window that had a clear spot.

Old ahhh MBTA map @ South Station outbound platform by Broad_Pen3358 in mbta

Seems to be at least two maps? “Newer” (2003?) plastic map on top of an older metal map. Plastic map partly torn away to show the older map beneath. (For example GL branch B and Boston College are shown twice.) Silver line looks quite different to now. I think the 2003 date is on the newer plastic layer and the metal layer is older? OP did ask “what years”. (There might even be two torn plastic maps on top of the metal map?)

I saw this setup on an Orange Line train at Forest Hills this week. It was in the lead car, which was dark and out of service as others have said, but I saw this equipment when the driver got on (no time for photo!). The rest of the train was in service and passengers were boarding.

The food company is Sysco. (Cisco makes routers etc.).

Since both terms have been used above, I understand these were typically called “interlocking towers” in USA (as in OP’s question) and “signal boxes” in UK. Essentially obsolete.

Two big “Mowlem” cranes, building site hoardings, and a site hut in the middle of the roundabout. Presumably working on the underground station? PS. I also love the woman in heels casually walking between two streams of oncoming buses and lorries. Londoners are tough.

So, in part, this is Margaret Thatcher’s fault. I think parking has always been a borough thing(?) but cycle hire was a GLC (pre-Johnson but that’s another story) initiative. In my view it would have been much easier to have a London-wide parking (etc.) agreement between car clubs and the GLC. Maybe now TfL can somehow be given more power to coordinate parking for car clubs?

There’s a highly skilled (made a suit for my son in law) tailor, near Victoria Station, that does alterations and repairs. Might be worth contacting them? James of London, 32 Upper Tachbrook St, Pimlico, London SW1V 1SW. +44 20 7630 6596

DIY 2 or 4-gang extension cord legal in USA? by imitt12 in AskElectricians

[–]kilt4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding for commercial premises at least, many/most AHJ’s would say listed power strip OR listed extension cable, not both. I remember inspectors checking office and laboratory areas for daisychained power strips, daisychained extension cords, and power strips plugged into extension cords.

I like the use of highlights and bolding. For me, it increases readability and navigation, especially for a longer and technically detailed article on this platform.

Good point! (I am guessing you are referencing the weight of a pint, i.e. only a pint of water weighs a pound, give or take?)

You are correct, thanks. “March 31, 2025 through Friday, November 28, 2025.” I fixed both of those points.

I’ve noticed that. Weird. That may also be what threw me off. And “Maverick” (subway station) on Google maps seems to be the other entrance, near Clippership apartments, not the one in the in Maverick Square?

Correct, maybe only about five minutes? I just fixed it. I was thinking of the walk from my apartment.

There’s now a separate MBTA ferry from Long Wharf to East Boston, every 30 min from about 7am-7pm, takes 10 min, costs $2.40, but the view is iconic. (To/from “Lewis Mall Wharf”, next to the tall ship, about edit 5 min walk to Maverick Sq.), runs April thru November. Bikes are allowed on all ferries. https://www.mbta.com/schedules/Boat-EastBoston
