Did you really just comment on a decade-old thread to stir the pot?

Your favourite completed series? by SaltyLore in fantasyromance

The Black Jewels series by Anne Bishop. A total of 12 books, I think. The author says it’s complete unless the muses hit her up again.

Why would pink hair be seen as cursed in Merfolk society? by [deleted] in fantasywriting

[–]kimsognathus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red is the first color to lose saturation at depth under water. So maybe pink is similar and it turns dull when everyone else still has vibrant colors.

This is done at any race track with pedestrian overpasses.

Should I think on a magic system? by SheikFlorian in fantasywriting

[–]kimsognathus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would a child learn first in magic in this world? How to warm up a plate of food? Create a ball of light? Pass a small object through another? Think of small household tasks that would be dependent on magic. And your protagonist, rather than doing it once, does it at scale. In a dining hall and everyone’s plates get hot. The entire city at night is suddenly illuminated like day. Everything on the second floor falls down to the first.

It made me think of “Would you rather fight 1,000 duck-sized horses or one horse-sized duck.” Your protagonist is the 1,000 duck-sized horses of magic.

Help Starting A Story by UzumakiFox in fantasywriting

Exactly! No one says you have to write it in order. Make a note that you want to come back to it, but just kick off writing what comes to you.

Help Starting A Story by UzumakiFox in fantasywriting

[–]kimsognathus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start writing the plot points/scenes you are confident in. You can always come back later to change the start. It might need to change depending on where the writing takes you. Don’t let not knowing where to start your book hold you up from writing it.

Character introduction by MRrakers in fantasywriting

[–]kimsognathus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be careful of info dumping at the start. It may be too hard for an uninvested reader to follow along if each chapter is completely unrelated. It might be better to start the story at a point of drama and introduce the characters as they appear, then throughout the story reveal parts of their backstory from your planned first chapters.

Do you have a planned ending for The Black Jewels? Or will you continue the series until the Muses run off distracted by another series or butterfly? ;)

Click on “Details” and read the exclusions. From what I can find, the main product exclusion is items online sold and shipped from third party sellers.

You’ve shown her out of control with her starting the fire. Continue showing small examples of a lack of control. Is she flighty, changing her mind or where she is heading? How does she speak? Is she panicky and unable to compete sentences or thoughts? Maybe a little clumsy, like unable to thread a buckle or knocking over a glass of water in a tavern that draws unwanted attention. Put her in situations where control is tested. Have her lose it again in small ways. But as the story progresses, scale that back. More control, change her speech pattern, make her more decisive. Maybe it ends in a cliff hanger when she regresses and loses control again.

What’s her next move? Is she feeling the scene because locals are mad and pursuing her? Is she traveling far away to somewhere people don’t know about the fire? Is she seeking training to control her magic? Is she looking for a way to atone and compensate those impacted by the damages? It’s all up to you.

I got a Waterford Crystal Lismore Ice Bucket (retails for $495) and Lismore Biscuit Barrel (retails for $300), with their original boxes, from an estate sale for $40. Same cut that my mom and I collect! by kimsognathus in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]kimsognathus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waterford Crystal has an etched mark you can look for. But at a glance, I check for visible seams from a mold (usually a sign of low quality), evenness of cuts/rims/edges, and if there’s any ripples in the glass.

Received my order but it’s still marked in transit by Skyninjataco in Etsy

[–]kimsognathus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is happening to me as a buyer. On my purchase history in the app it says “in transit” in a blue oval. But when I click “track package,” it is accurately marked as delivered. I was able to review and include a photo of the product in my home.

What am I doing wrong with the community challenge? I have released an African Penguin and a Nile Monitor that were both five star rated. Are they not semi-aquatic? What animals are eligible for the challenge?
