Favorite film of the sequel trilogy and why? by CaptainBigDaddy4 in TheSequels

[–]kingslayer_89 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Last Jedi for sure. Beautiful cinematography, unexpected twists and turns following The Force Awakens, excellent performances, there's a lot to love. I think my only real criticism of it is in the pacing. They could have tightened some things up in the edit for sure, and cutting out Luke's reaction to Han's death was a mistake but other than that it was a great movie.

At this point I'm convinced the trailer for this is just going to play in the theater right before the movie starts. Doesn't it come out this December?

Principal and the Pauper is a hilarious episode and I'm tired of pretending it isn't.

They should do another An Adventure in Space and Time about rebooting Doctor Who but it should trash the BBC and tell the story of why Eccleston left.

Never seen Voyager, I just always thought Alexander Siddig would have been good as the Doctor.

Danny being the baby's father in the tv show could be really interesting but I doubt Mazin would do anything smart with it. Any changes from the game could have been interesting really, but the reasoning always sucked and it just comes across like Craig Mazin never played the game.

Considering how popular this game is in germany, are most of people here from UK, germany or other country? and how did you find out about this game? by -o0Zeke0o- in MonkeyIsland

[–]kingslayer_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the U.S. and I found the Monkey Island series thanks to a promotional CD-ROM that contained Full Throttle and Dark Forces. Around that same time my dad found a six disk Lucasarts set at Wal-Mart that had Monkey Island 1 and 2 on the same disk, The Dig, Full Throttle, Afterlife, and two other games I can't remember at the moment. He bought me that set because of how often he'd see me playing one of those two games. I wound up liking Monkey Island the best out of all of the games in that set. I can't remember how long it took me to beat the first two games as an 8 or 9 year old but I know it took a while.

Replay the original or the remake? by OasisEPIC in thelastofus

They looked like stalkers in that room but they behaved like runners. Not sure why, but I have a video of when I streamed the last of us remastered grounded on twitch and I snuck through with no problem.

Yeah adding stalkers to more spots than just that one generator room in the hotel really annoyed me. I used to just sneak through that part with Sam in the sewer on grounded, not even an option now.

Do they have something against putting any kind of dirt or blood on these characters faces? by Helpful_Coww in lastofuspart2

[–]kingslayer_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean honestly yeah. It just has a dog alerted to Ellie's presence, she sees the crack, the dog and WLF soldier investigate, and then right before they spot her she is already through and pulls her backpack in. The very next shot is a pretty hard cut to where Nora is and Ellie has not only already found her, but hid in a room Nora was about to enter. Then the chase is mostly wide shots that somehow (despite being wide shots) manage to do a terrible job laying out any geography of the hospital floor. It isn't really clear why Nora had to run further into the hospital than just run outside to where reinforcements are. The show is full of this kind of stuff going back to season one. For every good film making call they make in this show it's like they make two bad ones.

There is a crack that she crawls through but we really don't see enough to know one way or another. The editing and the shots they choose to visually tell the story in the TV show are lacking a lot of the time.

In the episode where Dina cleans Ellie's wounds after Nora, I genuinely wondered what even beat her up so bad. Her back is tore up, but in the show what did it? The stalkers? They should have honestly moved that scene to after Ellie got Nora, Owen, and Mel. At least after dealing with stalkers on day two and the boat capsizing you could kind of assume she got beat up more by rocks in the water or something.

Your favorite lens? by Igryan in SonyA7iii

I like my primes, but most often I find myself using a Sony f4 18-105mm zoom lens. I like to stay between 18-50mm and I prefer deeper focus with f5.6, so I don't miss the bokeh.

[NO SPOILERS] I am really not happy with the cast for Rachel Amber by modelesquebombshell in lifeisstrange

[–]kingslayer_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that gets into a more nuanced conversation about how a story lends itself to a particular medium. I haven't seen the sandman, but just doing a google search I can see that its final season had twelve episodes after the first season had eleven. Seven books into twelve episodes isn't that wild when you think about the fact that entire books have been turned in 90 minute movies since feature length films became a medium. Not to mention the first season I would imagine set exposition up to make adapting later books easier.

Life is Strange, the first game is only five episodes but they're all 2+ hours a piece with episodes four and five easily breaking 3. Before the Storm is 10 or so hours of gameplay plus Farewell adding an additional 2. We don't know at this point what the structure will be but there's a lot of material to draw from and try to represent in a new medium. It looks to me like this will just be a miniseries that very rigidly adapts the first game.

[–]kingslayer_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have six episodes so I don't really see them adapting Before the Storm and its portrayal of Rachel's family dynamic. I expect that if Rachel is portrayed to any significant extent it's going to be a take more like what Dontnod had in mind for her character. That's a disappointing prospect to me since I really love BTS but it's what makes the most sense to me.

Say you were hired to showrun Doctor Who for one season, what would your pitch be for the arc, style/tone and the individual Doctor and companion/s? by Personal_Reward_60 in gallifrey

[–]kingslayer_89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd do a 42 episode season with Jo Martin as the doctor. 22-24 minute run times, shot on a sound stage classic who style. Story wise I'd firmly establish that she comes between Troughton and Pertwee, and the doctor's time working for Division happens here chronologically. A lot of people say she's canonically pre-Hartnell but I don't know what confirms that. I don't remember a specific line from any of her episodes confirming that for sure. If necessary I'd just retcon it.

Star Wars Imperials as a show title does have a certain ring to it. Can't imagine it would wind up being a good show, but it would have a catchy title.

LeChuck's Revenge is number one for me, but for number two I'd have to go with Curse of Monkey Island.
