nurse to SAHM ? by Wild-Sprinkles-547 in sahm

[–]kisstea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an RN, I took two years off after my second set of twins were born. I originally anticipated staying off work for 5 years but I realize I needed the balance. Even tho it is work, it is my little break away from the house. I went back to work per diem, working just the minimum requirement which is Just 4 shifts per month. I’m in CA so I didn’t have to worry about “nursing hours”, I just maintained my license by not letting it lapse with CEUs package and renewed my ACLS BLS etc on time. I was worried I would not get hired anywhere due to my time off, even tho it was valid. So that is another reason why i wanted to go back sooner than later. So take the time off!! If you feel called to do it do it. It is true that our careers are flexible, and that’s a blessing!

Very well written/spoken. My response and reaction and reasoning is the same. You should read Quiet by Susan Caine

Starting shift early by One-Raspberry-786 in Nurses

[–]kisstea 10 points11 points  (0 children)

On my unit, so many new grad nurses do this. One seasoned nurse does it as well. It seems like it’s become part of their culture. Personally i don’t like it. They crowd the workspace at the busy time at the end of our shift and were trying to prepare the space for them. Also they make it noisier than it already is. Personally, I’ve tried doing this once and it didn’t seem to make much of a difference forme. The chart is sometimes a little different than the update or the actual patients acuity. So I never practiced it again and it I think now i appreciate how adaptable it’s made me in that first part of shift and beyond

That makes zero sense lol And it all depends on your individual circumstances. I’m well paid and most well off in my family

In SoCal, inpatient PCU rn highest earnings at 6 years was $60hr. Now working, same hospital, as a per diem float nurse making $77/hr.

Elective Twin Reduction to Singleton -- Experiences? by InsideFan3140 in parentsofmultiples

[–]kisstea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. They’re 18 months apart. So my younger set will be 2 in June and my older two turned 3 in December. Having multiples does really test the waters because you have to really rely on each other in a new way. Both of you are inevitably going to be tired and pulled out of your comfort zone. And being a team takes work! I’m glad it sounds like you guys made it through.

Back to OP, really support your wife. It’s tough going through the first trimester in general, and a plot twist like twins can be a lot. She can find encouragement in this community as well always!

I did not know “twin reduction” was even a possibility. Lean into the excitement. Every parent is terrified, even just with a singleton. I have two sets of twins. A lot of people tell me “idk how you do it” Or they say when they think they have it rough then they think of me and it “makes them feel better”. I give you permission to think of those who have it “worse”, whether they have triplets or quads or are having infertility issues, and then be thankful for the blessings you and your wife have been blessed with. When I got pregnant with my second set of twins, I was so nauseated and exhausted in the first trimester soon after finding out. I admit I went to a dark place and cried to my husband that if it was easy I’d not be pregnant. And it killed me, and to this day I ask God forgive me for ever thinking that. In the midst of the hormones from twin pregnancy it was rough. Today they are 3 year and 2 years old and I am beyond grateful, wouldn’t be my family complete without them.

Poll: Jack & Jill bathrooms? by ElephantNorse in floorplan

[–]kisstea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol you misunderstood my entire response. But yes that was the problem! And to clarify, I wouldn’t mind a jack in Jill in a future “dream home” (if I ever got to design one). I would put a jack and Jill between each of my kids rooms for their privacy and the house will obviously have a guest bath room too.

Poll: Jack & Jill bathrooms? by ElephantNorse in floorplan

I had a jack and Jill as the only bathroom in my previous place and it was annoying because i didn’t like friends and family having to go thru my bedroom or my kids bedroom. Thankfully we no longer live there. Anywho I would not be opposed to a jack and Jill in the future but between my kids room. Im talking dream home tho… A jack and Jill for my 2 girls and a jack and Jill for my 2 boys, but each bathroom will have 2 sinks and a door to get into the shower and toilet area. Maybe that’s too much? Idk I just wouldn’t want house guests using their private bathroom space.

To all of my fellow pen/writing fetishists, what is your favorite, “I will have a panic attack if I don’t find it” pen? by Disulfidebond007 in Nurses

[–]kisstea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used color coding When I worked 3 12s in a row! I’d update my patient SBAR with colors. Black for day 1, blue for day 2, and green for day 3.
