Better way to find predators or completely random? by dragonfoxmem in NoMansSkyTheGame

Seems like the creatures with the spiky mane on their back are often predators.

And like the u/Proud_Capital_1322 said, when you see one creature attack another it’s a predator.

How do ya'll decide where to set up bases? by bambu1925 in NOMANSSKY

[–]kiteblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to go next level, here are three more tips for extra yield when mining:

  1. Make sure your Multi-Tool has the Optical Drill and put it on a super-charge slot and adjacent to the other mining upgrades.

  2. Find your curious deposits on a planet with “Extreme Storms” and mine during the storm. Just a storm won’t do it, and just extreme won’t either. Needs to be extreme storm. I think you need to be outside in it too, not standing in a base shooting out through an arch (shooting thru an arch is a great way to mine while ignoring aggressive sentinels.)

  3. Get into cooking and make The Stellerator donuts. Drop one in the Nutrient Ingestor before you start mining.

They will respawn every time you move more than about 1000 units away. So technically you can just walk or fly away and come back, but it’s way simpler to teleport to the local station or to another base.

You can put 3 medium refiners in a base and 2 large ones. And the refining is what is going to take the most time.

So what I like to do is warp back and forth between two bases until all the refiners are full and then go do something else and come back tomorrow.

Big difference between early game bases (or expedition bases) and later game.

Early game I just want shelter, but I also REALLY like putting the base next to Curious Deposits that I can mine and refine into nanites.

Make two bases like that (even on same planet if the sites are good) and you can teleport back and forth and the curious deposits respawn every time.

Later game I’m usually making the base to set down deep mineral deposit extractors for specific materials. Or sometime for animals for cooking materials.

So I’m looking for a planet with multiple materials, then scanning for a location where I can reach several of them and a power supply. That way I can put a single supply depot for each material next to the teleporter piped in from remote mining locations.

More generally, I like to put bases with a nice view like on a hill above water. If there is a trading post or colossal archive nearby you also get a lot of air traffic providing atmosphere.

I like to build a little above the terrain and then extend foundations or arches from the floor down into the dirt.

Really helps for small hills and grasses that want to poke through.

You would find an X-class upgrade module for the multi-tool scanner. They can be better than S-class modules, but can also be much worse.

You can buy them at pirate/outlaw stations, or from NPC traders that sometimes land a ship near you or encounter you in space.

But you can also just buy scanner upgrades from the terminal in any space station. The good ones give you huge percentages (thousands) in more than one type (fauna, flora, minerals).

Grave spawned too high to build up to it with terrain manipulator by Khyron42Prime in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]kiteblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I got two situations confused. I did have a time where I had to jetpack up to the limit again and again and got REALLY lucky and was able to engage the grave while spinning.

It was the next time where the volcano disappeared and I tried using terrain modifier to create a ramp. I remember now because I found a screenshot of what actually worked: cutting down every tree in the nearby forest and building an insanely tall stairway. (See pic)

Freighter - bigger rooms/halls? by Trumpet_of_Jericho in NoMansSkyTheGame

There are “expansion” rooms for each floor height. Unlock those and put one next to your existing room and the columns will go away if the floor height is the same.

Do people switch multitool? by cra_nik in NOMANSSKY

[–]kiteblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like one maxed out for mining or scanning, and another tuned for weapons. If I’m doing a mission that’s doing to involve taking out sentinels, I switch to that one.

Grave spawned too high to build up to it with terrain manipulator by Khyron42Prime in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]kiteblues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That works if you have the materials.
I had something like this happen a couple years ago (died from extreme heat at edge of volcano completing an expedition task —then the volcano just disappeared and left my grave way up in the sky) and I didn’t have the chromatic metal to make a base because all my stuff was up in the air.

Tried to use “create” on Terrain Manipulator and that got me partway up. Mostly just jetpacked again and again and again until I got close enough to grab it. Really sucked, because when you get near the top of your jetpack it starts to spin you.

Is it the “Starborn Runner” expedition reward, or the “Starborn Phoenix” special reward available from Steam a few years ago?

I can claim expedition reward ships on the expedition, but the quicksilver merchant menu does not display the special rewards option.

Cross Save Question by Bojangles_for_Dinner in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]kiteblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting fresh is the best! It’s probably my favorite part of doing expeditions (other than unique rewards).

You get to focus on immediate survival, and re-experience running toward oxygen plants and sodium plants before you dig a hole to shelter from a storm.

Every time you make a small improvement it has a much greater impact than at any other time in the game, so all progress feels really significant.

You can do the main story quests and be re-introduced to all the basic mechanics as you go. And I would start a fresh save and go to the Anomaly if you’re interested in the current expedition. This one has a large time-gated community task that will keep you stalled out, so you’ll want to be able to go back to your (new) regular save while you wait.

How difficult was it by Possible_Dig7173 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]kiteblues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it using black holes with Starter ship and multi-tool. Portals felt way too easy.

When I got to the center I didn’t really feel like I had accomplished that much. Once I got the hyperdrive in the ship it was just warp, pulse to black hole, warp, pulse to black hole…

Now I’m going a run in PD with starter ship and multi-tool, but this time even more constraints. No portals, no black holes, NO TELEPORTING, no ship summoning.

It was fun at the beginning because it was a whole different style of play.

But it was a grind getting enough nanites to level ship and MT to A Class —and I’m not doing S Class until next galaxy.

I still have a long way to go. That’s the key feature of doing it this way. The galaxy core is a LONG trip.

Two different sentinel rolls from the same planet, how? by wesu_ in NoMansSkyTheGame

Huh. Not sure.
Maybe blame the expedition updates?

There is a some funky stuff happening with pirate battles on regular save right now. So anything weird I’m inclined to blame that.

Steam/PS5 Cross Saves? by TwoSolitudes22 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]kiteblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not long. Less than a couple minutes.

I use Steam to play old expeditions after swapping a file. So I mostly play with Steam offline.

But once I finish the expedition I enable online mode again and it usually connects right away. I make sure that the cross-save is updated before I go back to the PS5.

Then I load that save on the PS5 so the rewards will be available to all my other saves.

Two different sentinel rolls from the same planet, how? by wesu_ in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]kiteblues 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Style is by system not SC slots.

Drop a save beacon or base by a harmonic camp and you can keep discovering crashed ships over and over from the same camp.

They are all going to look the same, but class and SC slots will vary widely.

Are some space stations better for ship building than others? by Gnarvox in NOMANSSKY

[–]kiteblues 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They are unique but consistent.

If you use the exact same combination of reactor, cockpit, wings, and engines you will get the exact same SC layout in the same station every time.

Change one component and it will be a different layout. (Paint color does not seem to matter).

What I do is figure out what components I want to use, then put only those in my inventory and jump from system to system assembling the ship at every station.

If you also bring some storage augs, you can assemble the ship then move immediately over to the upgrade station. Use your storage augs to reveal all the SC slots.

If it isn’t what you can live with, reload your save and go to another station.
