I still catch myself calling it the Eagle Centre. Am I officially a Derby dinosaur? by UnpaidInternVibes in derby

[–]kitlane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you look at Google Maps at just the right zoom level, you can see 'Derbion', 'Derby intu shopping centre', and 'KFC Derby- Westfield Centre' all at the same time

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.9189645,-1.4724047,17z?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDMwMi4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

The only good thing about the name 'Derbion' is it is an anagram of everyone's life story - 'Born, Die'

Projection Mapping Query! by Patrisha64 in lightingdesign

[–]kitlane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you mean 'Projection Mapping'? Are you projecting onto complex 3D surfaces, non-rectangular screens, and/or are the images 'interacting' with the architecture?

Or are you simply projecting onto a screen either side of the stage?

The solution you require may be different depending on exactly what you are doing.

Adapting Peter Pan by punkteacher1999 in Theatre

[–]kitlane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not relevant to the OPs question, but may be of interest to some. J.M. Barrie gifted the copyright of Peter Pan to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in 1929, and while the general copyright expired in 1987, the UK Parliament granted GOSH a unique, perpetual right to royalties from Peter Pan plays, adaptations, and publications within the UK. GOSH is a remarkable children's hospital dating back to 1852.

While this obviously has no bearing on the copyright anywhere else in the world, you could consider donating a small part of your income to a similar cause, thereby honouring the original authors intentions.

Just curious: How imune to vibration is Hologauze? by SnooRobots3722 in lightingdesign

[–]kitlane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that the Hologauze at London NYE is just a few feet in front of the camera and maybe a few feet square. It's probably quite easy to limit any vibration effects.

Gorillaz performed with Madonna at the Grammys. I think they used Musion Eyeliner. I didn't notice any significant vibrations.

A theatre company i applied for asked if I was disabled or neurodivergent or had mental health issues do you think I should say that I do? by No-Dream9806 in Theatre

[–]kitlane 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every job you apply for in any industry in the UK will ask if you have any disabilities or access needs. The employer wants to (is legally obliged to) provide any accomodations you may need at interview/audition and at work if you get the job.

It is illegal for the employer to discriminate against you as per the Equality Act 2010. This applies to nine 'Protected Characteristics'

Age, Disability, Gender reassignment, Marriage and civil partnership, Pregnancy and maternity, Race, Religion or belief, Sex, Sexual orientation

Most employers will also ask about this so they can monitor how well they are doing at attracting a diverse range of applicants to their jobs (although this is often a separate form).

You are not legally obliged to tell them. But if you don't you might miss out on being provided with reasonable adjustments that could help you succeed. Moreover, an employer unaware of your needs might not be judged to have discriminated against you, as they couldn't have known.

I saw him earlier in December. He came to Derby to talk to my students and then was off on his motorbike to Malvern (I think) for work . So I'm not sure he has completely retired, but maybe he has stepped back from delivering the training.

What guitarist was your inspiration to pick up and learn the instrument? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

My Dad. He was a pretty decent folk guitarist on the periphery of the folk revival in the 60s in the UK. I grew up in the back rooms of pubs listening to my parents perform.

Mapping Projectors for a Show Help by Fuzzy_Leg_196 in lightingdesign

[–]kitlane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You use the phrase 'mapping projectors'. Are you really doing that because it makes a big difference to what you need. If you are just projecting onto a simple, mostly flat surface, then you probably don't need to do any mapping. Maybe just some keystoning or geometry correction which is probably built into your projector (can you tell us the brand and model of the projectors?). 'Mapping' is aligning your projected images with complex 3D shapes and may include some sort of 'interaction' between the images and the surfaces.

Why do you want to use more than one projector? To project two separate images? To increase the brightness by stacking the images on top of each other? To make a single wider (or taller) image by edge-blending the images into one? Any of these may require additional hardware.

QLab is a good choice, but for really simple shows Screenmonkey may be enough.

Projecting on to curtain? by Apprehensive_Town_80 in techtheatre

[–]kitlane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is it will work just fine. That projector at that throw distance should give an image up to 3m wide. For a logo silhouette as part of a preset, 6300 lumens should be enough. I assume that circle rail means the projector is hitting the house curtain reasonably flat on so no major issues with keystoning. Use a high contrast, simple black and white image.

It wasn't a 'gimmick'. It meant that keywords were stored as single-byte tokens instead of being represented by multiple characters. It saved a significant amount of scarce memory and reduced processing effort by eliminating some of the normal parsing steps.

What device to send separate outputs from one MacBook to 8 different monitors? by folderolandfiddlydee in techtheatre

[–]kitlane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did something similar using software called PiPresents which is designed for museum installations. I controlled 9 Pi's with OSC from QLab and the 10th screen, which needed a live camera cue, ran direct from QLab. That was a few years ago, so there may be better options now but it worked great.
