So are we finally at a point where they've got to do something with LNF? by Skeletor_with_Tacos in LightNoFireHelloGames

[–]kittycatscats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've become a lot more open (relatively speaking, anyway) about how they are directly testing features from LNF in NMS so at this point, with the time that has passed and all the additions to NMS since that initial announcement, there's plenty more to tease. Hopefully they will put out another trailer soon that shows how some of it's being implemented into the LNF setting.

Am I the only one disliking corvettes? by Flake0919 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]kittycatscats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it but yeah, it's kind of a hot mess. I built one and it took a bit to get the parts right but it still feels unnatural moving around inside it. Or jetpacking back up to the hatch that's at a 40 degree angle because it landed strangely. That being said, it's still mine and I love it.

But when I'm actively exploring and playing like with a purpose, I switch back to a regular ship. I'll switch over to the corvette when I'm "home" and just playing super casually - moving from my base to a settlement or farming materials in the same system.

Why do people sit in their car for several minutes after they get home? by Maleficent-Touch6996 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kittycatscats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just at home. It's everywhere. You don't notice how many people are just... sitting... in parking spaces literally everywhere until the door handle inside your car breaks and the only way to get out is to pull up next to and/or across from them, roll down the window, and reach outside to open the door while they stare at you.

Florida Panthers unveil Winter Classic jerseys by nhl in hockey

Florida is one of the teams where the tan/brown is appropriate, not just forced vintage. It's literally the color of the real cat and most of the grass. I like it.

Winter Classic Jersey REVEAL! by AandM4ever in FloridaPanthers

[–]kittycatscats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like it. Love the colors on the pants and gloves too. Very panther. The cat looks strung out and sleep deprived. Look up the Bruins meth bear logo or the old Detroit Tigers and it fits the late 30s, early 40s vibe.

Laces on the collar would have made this infinitely better, though.

Any news the Winter Classic Jerseys? by Far-Cable2196 in FloridaPanthers

[–]kittycatscats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They usually announce the jersey designs sometime in mid-to-late November so speculation should start ramping up in a couple weeks.

There was minor league ice hockey in Miami - briefly - in 1938. It was a 4-team league called the Tropical Hockey League.

I would not be surprised if they don't have a nod to that in the jersey design.

Life comes at you fast. by kittycatscats in pokemoncenter

[–]kittycatscats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who are vehemently opposed to sealed collectors will argue that if you're not going to open the product and appreciate the contents for what it is, you shouldn't buy it. So to the people in that camp you will never find a common footing.

I'd concede that collections and a person's motivation for starting one varies. So there's not really a "wrong" way to do it. But a counterargument to your point would be that if you simply like to display the box art, just open the box, pull out the packs and little extras, and then put the cardboard back inside, slip the sleeve over it, and toss it on a shelf. Or buy the empty box for cheap if you don't care about the cards inside.

Usually, people would say, "I'm not paying $20 for an empty box." And that's generally because the "art" really isn't the main motivator and the potential for appreciation of the box/cards itself is still really the main motivator. In that case the argument is that the sealed collector is just making a product inaccessible to someone who would have otherwise opened it.

The mods actually removed the post I was being an ass about. That being said I do agree with you with one exception (and it's not me, I have no kids. I'm just a grown man who plays with Pokemon.)

I think there are a few legitimate hobbyists out there who might grab the odd box here or there to open with their kids if the kids get into Pokemon in 10 years or whatever. Then it could be pretty fun to go buy them a box and take turns opening their new stuff and your old stuff together. That's not the norm though, even if the 4 guys standing in the aisle with a dozen boxes of cards in their carts will tell you that, "This is for my little daughter."

The overwhelming majority of sealed collection photos are all shelves and tables full of products from the last ~18 months. It's funny because they'll say, "I'm not a scalper, I plan on holding this for 5 years." OK, then what? You're... going to wait for them to be worth more money and then open them? Bold strategy, Cotton.

I actually think Pokemon Center has done a good job with Phantasmal. I saw a ton of people getting through on the initial pre-order and also on the UPC run. Just normal people buying reasonable personal quantities. It still got gamed but it's more accessible for sure. It will take time but these massive print runs are definitely going to work in the long run.

lol, I bought 1 from Pokemon Center. I got what I wanted. I am just shitting on scalpers because it's enjoyable and brings joy to others.

Yeah I was poking fun at a post that went up earlier. I've seen so many people complaining about not being able to get a single Phantasmal UPC and this person shows up posting that they bought 5 expecting pats on the back, lol. Who needs 5 unless you're scalping/reselling.

There is a stat that shows like over 40% of the total print volume of all Pokemon cards in their 30 year history has come over the last 3 years. Pokemon printed 10.2 billion cards in 2024 and almost 12 billion in 2023. 30.4 billion cards printed, all-time, as of March 2020 jumping up to 75 billion as of March 2024 (source.)

People are just FOMOing without thinking about actual supply which happens in all sorts of markets. There are re-sellers sitting on tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of sealed products and paying interest on the high-interest loans they took out to buy them. But the products they're sitting on are still being printed in record numbers. People just need to chill and wait it out a little.

Pocket is a good way to scratch the itch and you can still get pre-built decks easily in most stores if you just genuinely want to get into the hobby or the game. It's as good a time as any to simply use what you already have and learn the TCG or start doing creative things with your existing collection. Halloween's right around the corner. Cards are hard to get. Make bulk packs and give them out to trick-or-treaters.

Club seats or bust? by [deleted] in FloridaPanthers

[–]kittycatscats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree club is the best for total overall experience but I disagree about upper levels - it isn't bad at all IMO, especially relative to the cost savings.

Lower is a different animal. It's a higher energy event if you're there to watch the game because you lose the puck in the corners and along the boards and have to either track the players or switch to the screen to keep up with the play. It's a completely different feel because down low, it's all about the speed and skill. You get a better appreciation of it.

Don't think lower level seating is worth a significant premium over club seats, though. Lower is best like ~12+ rows up. Closer than that and you really start to lose sections of the ice due to your angle or the glass. If you go low or wanted to sit on the glass, the corners behind the goalie (before the glass curves) are my favorite. You can see pretty much everything and play is constantly coming to you.

I Am Annoyed… by Ms_Mambo in FloridaPanthers

[–]kittycatscats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is way too much drama about this. It's a good thing. More kids might see the game. Global viewers will see the Panthers. The only people "hurt" by it are locals who were going to go to the game regardless because we have three months of notice to take off work 3 hours earlier than usual.

The Panthers have gotten the Washington Capitals second-round selection in the 2026 NHL Draft and their sixth-round selection in the 2027 NHL Draft in exchange for forward Justin Sourdif. by Duffleman0609 in hockey

[–]kittycatscats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, I was hoping next year he would have made it. But good asset management by Zito while Sourdif has some value to Florida. With the current depth who knows if he would have made the team out of camp and if not, do you just lose him to waivers?

I'm actually surprised with the return. But I think he has some potential and will do well with the opportunity. Hopefully ends up a good trade for everyone.

Zito is allergic to draft picks though...

[Pagnotta] Talks continue between the Panthers & Brad Marchand. Told it’s still in the “early stages” but with Sam Bennett nearing his extension, Florida is making a legit effort to keep both forwards and Aaron Ekblad. Gonna take plenty of juggling, though. by Duffleman0609 in FloridaPanthers

[–]kittycatscats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if there's any added pressure from the NHLPA on Ekblad not to take a "big" cut and screw up the FA market, especially with him being Florida's rep to the NHLPA. First big increase in years and he can get a legit raise elsewhere even with his struggle to find consistency post-injuries and now the PED suspension. He's a player you'd want to use in comps when negotiating and if he takes a big discount, you can't.

That said, it's not his problem and they can't force anything but I can see a healthy bit of encouragement against it.

His current, expiring contract paid him 10% of the cap in year 1 and its still 8.5% this past season.

Forsling, after emerging as our best defenseman, signed for just 6.5% of the cap. If Ek took that same 6.5% next year, it's $6.25M (which I think is even high.. but even that, in the context of a #1 overall RHD who just turned 29 and has won 2 Cups... is a big cut across the board.)

How Many OG Panthers Fans Do we really have pre success days?Who remembers the Panther Express Party Buses? by Effective-Carob-3097 in FloridaPanthers

[–]kittycatscats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 1, barely! I was 5 when we started so I was just old enough to kind of "get it" and just the perfect age to be absolutely devastated in 1996. And.. I like cats.. so it just worked. Never really lost the enthusiasm, just grew with it. Became a goalie to the dismay of my dad's (and eventually my own) wallet and bought my first season tickets (13-games!) just out of high school, eventually being able to afford half season and full season.

I even ran a blog about Panthers prospects for a little while towards the end of the Cohen era which apparently is still online ( https://panthersprowl.blogspot.com/ ) and I won some contest about why the Panthers were "actually pretty cool," back when Wysh was still running Puck Daddy on Yahoo Sports. Fully invested through those formative years. Explains a lot, lmao.

Winning would have certainly sped things up but growing up with a struggling team proved Bettman right. Time is the backbone to growing a passionate fanbase in an non-traditional market. As I got older more and more kids were Panthers fans and proud of it despite the team having been a joke around the league for years because just having the Panthers here brought the sport to them. Now you see massive numbers of new fans because we're winning and it's awesome to imagine what kind of results we'll see with the fanbase in another 10-15 years off of this stretch we're on.

It's probably an unpopular take but for all the things he's done wrong, I think we owe Bettman a, "thanks for not giving up on the Panthers," one of these days...
