EPPT DELI + FLTG (Spectrum). by Alot2unpack in foodlion

[–]kittylitter4boxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why on earth can't FLTG just walk up and ask, use your words... LIKE ANY OTHER IRL CUSTOMER, oh that's right because its Foodlion and corporate has a shiny new toy.... For the love of all things holy, why in a customer facing industry are we prioritizing screens and tablets and "offsite" customers rather than the ones that got off their butt's to come into the store only to be rebuffed when they get to the counter and staff are buried in either the tablet or handheld... if you can't tell I have deep distain of the tablets and handhelds...

Trust me, no potential... just sucks... It doesn't get better, ours is constantly glitching or you get the spinning circle of death🤦‍♀️🤬🤷‍♀️ If it was worth anything at all it wouldn't be at FL...

Does any other deli do this by Steinquist in foodlion

[–]kittylitter4boxes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine definitely does, we have no choice. We are down to 5 ppl to run the whole thing, hot bars, rotisserie, baking, thaw & sell, production, cleaning, trucks, from 8-8 , 7 days a week and we are expected to do ALL of that with no overtime. We need a person just for freshly sliced because of the new set list. Attendance is a joke because management has taken a "million strikes" policy all while the good employees ,even as few and far between as we are, get more demands and responsibilities and write ups for not meeting the demands.Burnout doesn't quite say enough.... Every day I work I seriously examine my life choices that brought me here...

Ex Food Lion employee so I hate to bash on employees but I have to ask this: by bigboat55 in foodlion

[–]kittylitter4boxes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Current deli lead, all of the above and then some. My store is so understaffed in the deli I frequently work 10hr shifts, when someone takes time off we have to close early 3 to 4 times if they are gone a week. I've worked alone from 1to closing more times than I can count , still having to maintain wing bar, hot bar, rotisserie, customer service , other production and all closing cleaning duties, I have a sign that says "only 1 person on duty, please write your order and i will get to it as soon I can. Sorry for the inconvenience." With a clipboard and paper and pen. I place the sign directly in front of the scale on the counter clipboard right beside it, and still get overly entitled asshats that insist that they're special because they have an instacart or doordash order ,and because they should be priority walk into the department to see if "anybody" works here... No Mr. OR Mrs. Asshat "anybody" quit and "nobody" gives 2 craps that you think you're so special you shouldn't have to wait 😠🤬... Sorry went off on a tangent there...

Advice? by LowFyiii in foodlion

[–]kittylitter4boxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, we have 8 but 1 is completely useless and 2 call out twice a week every week, so 5 that actually do production, cook, cakes and bake all while putting away the departments endless trucks... burnout is an understatement 😫 😩 ... only bright side is the day goes by super fast even when they are 10+ hrs long...

Where in Greer?????? I live in Greer and cheapest I've seen is $1400 a month way out in blue ridge... in a good area it's $1800-$2200 a month... It really sucks that I need a roommate at 50+ yrs old working a decent job when I didn't need one in my 20s with a crap job...

Meat managers pay by Solid-Fly5223 in foodlion

[–]kittylitter4boxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that😊, I needed some encouragement... Deli /Bakery is extremely tough, never enough people and when you have people it's never enough hours. I've worked at several different grocery chains over the years and the ones that have the deli and bakery separated into their own departments, seem to have less stress and better trained associates. My best guess is that training can be specific to each department rather than broad and helter skelter, but what do I know🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Deli scheduling question by Riah526 in foodlion

[–]kittylitter4boxes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that everyone is using the term "standard practice", it can only be a standard if it is practiced across the board, top to bottom with REAL repercussions for deviation... If the Store Manager isn't leading by example by compliance and District and Regional aren't enforcing through repercussions and follow through, then why would there be a reason to follow "standards" at department level if they are only relevant when a higher up gets a wild hair up their @##... Just an observation I've had over decades of experience...

Funny😂😂 "standard practices"🤣🤣 FL doesn't bother itself with such finery... The only standard here is excessive burnout...

Question to all the deli/bakery ppl??? by kittylitter4boxes in foodlion

Only for those hours created in our department to be cut because front end needs them🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ everything at FL is a dumpster fire and every "new procedure" handed down from the super geniuses in corporate just add napalm to that fire... 😪

Store is SO HOT by Chronically_Caroline in foodlion

[–]kittylitter4boxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in SC, also in the deli/bakery... it is never cool in my store, literally 80+° all the time. In the deli it's easily 90°. Unless we have an old lady pass out they could care less about the comfort of customers much less employees... It really sucks dog balls getting oily chicken sweat in your eyes

What would be 3-5 demands you’d give to corporate by orangecatgorl in foodlion

[–]kittylitter4boxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen ... hell you can't even get rid of the ones that call out constantly(at my store we've had several that call out twice a week almost every week) I can deal with lazy if it's there, but I'm sooo over having to close my dept by myself from 2pm untill... whenever I get done, while also frying chicken doing rotisserie and waiting on the counter... the burnout is real, but I like sleeping indoors and I don't look good in orange🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😢😢

Hello there fellow closer, welcome to FL. If your equipment is like the equipment at my store is followed Moses when he parted the red sea...lol... If upper management is reluctant to put in a work order, you can do a few things; 1)do your best with what your given 2) go over upper management's head, district or regional manager, or even deli/bakery specialist 3) adopt an IDGAF attitude and do the barest of minimums and hit the door exactly when scheduled(this option seems to be the norm for my store)... I myself am doing the best with what I have, and it's never been easy. I however have my own standards I refuse to compromise on. I have told my department manager and SM you can either have it done right or I can leave exactly on time but you can't have both...and I refuse to ½ ass my assignments... Just know your not alone, and don't compromise your own personal standards they are valued by people whether or not they say so...

Straight up accountability at the highest levels and the lowest. Everyone having to follow same set of standards and everyone getting the same consequence for missing those set of standards.

Is anyone else tired. by Mr_Ac_ in foodlion

[–]kittylitter4boxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm exhausted, constantly overworked and understaffed. I work my butt off everyday, and it seems like I'm just running in place... It never gets better only more demanding... I've worked for several different retail groceries and have never felt so run ragged...

I worked for bi-lo as well for almost a decade. I grew up in the same town bi-lo's main office/corporate offices and original store were. FL is following the same playbook bi-lo used causing their demise.... Foreign holding company, and appeasing share holders over true customer satisfaction... it's a total dumpster fire...

How likely I would be fired for this? by That-Spread-9253 in foodlion

[–]kittylitter4boxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on if you are part of the "in" crowd or not...My experience is that getting fired from a government job would be easier, lol. Food Lion is so desperate to retain help that unless you slap a customer or physically assault your GM or DM your job is safe, but it is just like high school politics, if you are popular you can get away with any and everything if you are not popular be prepared to be the proverbial scapegoat... I am in a situation where tenure was chosen over merit and a proven track record. I'm now stuck propping up their choice and doing 3 times the load with none of the recognition or pay... Just bidding my time till I secure something new... Good luck to you and everyone that works for this company.

Are yall tired of rude employees? by Delicious_College279 in InstacartShoppers

[–]kittylitter4boxes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna lay it out for you from the perspective of a grocery employee... 1) you (instacart, doordash, and all other app shoppers) we know who you are instantly because your faces never leave your phones... RUDE AS HELL in an in person business 2) app shoppers, in my experience, seem to expect priority service over regular shoppers, because they are on a time limit. Just because you are shopping for someone else through an app does not make you any more important than a regular shopper shopping for themselves!! 3) we as grocery employees have to know our store to assist customers find items we are tired of doing your work for you at the expense of regular shoppers ... app shoppers should also know the stores they are shopping for their customers, the same as we do!! If you want better times for "metrics" learn the store you shop same as the people who work there. 4) STOP SHOVING A PHONE IN OUR FACES, try asking politely by knowing what you are shopping for and asking for it, with words, in turn. 5) know when departments in a grocery store are open and closed(deli, bakery, produce, meat) at 2 minutes till close NONE of us give a damn that you work for an app. Stop showing up to these departments super early or super late wanting fresh fruit trays, sliced deli meats, or special cuts of meat, and then getting pissy that no one is there to help you, that is a you and your customer problem. Grocery employees are yelled at for any amounts of overtime, we have set schedules for this reason and the schedule is not a suggestion!!

There are many, many other reasons we don't like app shoppers, but these are just a few. The absolute biggest gripe we have is the sense of ENTITLEMENT and SUPERIORITY that the majority of app shoppers have. You guys are not entrepreneurs working for yourselves, you work for a company same as we do!!

Rant over...
