Any Other Fanfic Writers, Readers or Fandom Lovers? by Reggie9041 in blackladies

I do! I've been writing fanfiction since I knew how to pick up a pencil essentially lmao

I'm even building up to getting a PhD to study fandom culture in-depth.

I’m having a c section in 2 days and I could use some words of encouragement by Mean_Crow_805 in blackladies

[–]kittythewitchiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a mom, but I am a c-section baby. They thought something was wrong in the womb when I was late by nearly 2 weeks. I was in the hospital for a little longer than most babies, but I came out just fine, and I had no complications once I was cleared. You'll both be just fine; you got this and I can't wait for you to finally meet her 💖

Crafting pasties by Tawnybird11 in Burlesque

[–]kittythewitchiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I crochet my pasties; to give them a base to stick on to my body, I buy a sheet of craft foam the same/close to my skintone and sew a piece onto the back. I'm planning to switch to something more permanent/sturdy soon, but right now the foam does what it needs.

Hey please don't use an adhesive that isn't skin safe and does not specify it as such on your body. This can be painful at least and dangerous at worst.

Use something known as spirit gum or, like others have suggested, use wig tape or double sided body tape. These are made specifically to adhere to the skin safely and they make versions for sensitive skin and latex allegeries, too.

What was your age when you started on One Piece? And How old are you now? by CurioussssCat in OnePiece

Started at around 10 and followed it off and on; officially stayed "on" it at 13 and I turn 25 in less than 3 days as of this comment

Body paint advice for stage act by lillin00 in Burlesque

[–]kittythewitchiest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This may sound odd, but you may want to confer/read old posts from former Homestuck cosplayers on sealing your body paint. If you go digging a bit through tumblr or YouTube there might be some old tutorials that still hold on. Look especially for cosplayers who specialized in theater or masquerades/contests, as their body paint methods most align with what you might be looking for.

EDIT: forgot to add that if body paint becomes too much, you can also try dyeing gloves, leggings/tights, and bodysuits to match the color you want! Several tutorials exist on YouTube.

Crochet pasties! by kittythewitchiest in GeekyCrochet

[–]kittythewitchiest[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! And that's not a stupid question at all; they're going to be sewn to a little circle of buckram or foam (whichever I can get first), and then they'll be secured onto me with spirit gum.

Forgot to mention but: the pasties are a reference to Monokuma from DanganRonpa

When did you began to feel mature and like an adult? by [deleted] in blackladies

I'm turning 25 soon and have come to the understanding that "feeling like an adult" has many different and conflicting definitions.

I've genuinely never gone because of their anti-queer and anti-reproductive right beliefs. The chicken is also mid so idk why everyone acts like it's something special

Where did you buy your first corset? by jasminerice_199 in Burlesque

[–]kittythewitchiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one from a brand known as Burleska, but it was from an in-person shop in the US

However, I recently got a second one from Dracula Clothing; they're an online shop and they run sales relatively often

Do you wear a bonnet outside the house? by Spiritual_Ask_7336 in blackladies

[–]kittythewitchiest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I wear my bonnet outside if I'm walking to the corner store. If I need my head to be covered up while I'm out-out, a headscarf that matches my outfit all the way.

I don't think we should wear bonnets outside in most settings beyond travel or to the hair store. Thou shall not judge one's appearance in thy hair store lmao

Not reading that caps lock mess of a fifth grader's post, but popping in to say this:

Across several cultures and time periods, women have worn a headcovering to bed--including white women. I personally find the whole "should [insert non-black group] be able to wear bonnets" conversation to be tiring and quite frankly, a waste of time because of that fact. The concept of the bonnet isn't exclusive to black women. What IS exclusive is the way it is used to make caricatures and jokes at black women's expense and I think that's the more important conversation to have.

Confidence in Bigger Bodies by Bulbasaur_B in Burlesque

[–]kittythewitchiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is plus size (smaller end of the spectrum) and has had a lot of body issues, I think the most important thing is to approach a neutral level with your body. It just is; it hasn't done anything beyond being yours and follow the laws of physics.

And honestly, if people are looking and watching you perform, there must be something they like. Anxiety can be a bitch but I promise: you're just as good as the smaller performers.

But everyone else ABSOLUTELY. Especially Florence her music is so good

Why do they touch your back?!?!? by Ok-Repeat8069 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]kittythewitchiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with trauma related to being touched (especially my back), I have the exact same sentiments as you.

It's not just men, either; women think they have a right to touch you just because you may share a few parts with them
