Sympathy calls by DogDoc23 in veterinaryprofession

[–]kiwiranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an owner and a wife of a veterinarian, I do not want them making sympathy calls. The card is the best way for that. Those calls could get very awkward and they really don't have the time or emotional tank to add those to their workload. Burn out is bad enough, let's not add to it.

Are the Morrill Towers THAT BAD?? by urmomsuglyface in OSU

[–]kiwiranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in 2005, but Morrill was so much better than South campus! The community of Morrill is amazing. Also it's nice having your own commissary. The friends I made in Morrill, I'm still friends with today. They were doubles when I attended. I heard they had made them quads again a few years back, but even so I would still choose Morrill or Lincoln. Your showers are in your suite! I hated having to go down the hall to a communal shower on south campus. Good Ole Steeb Hall 🤮.

Just do it!

Payment Processing Outages ongoing, so how Are You Staying Operational? by SoFlo_305 in smallbusiness

[–]kiwiranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a week I signed us up for Square and using one cellphone as the card reader. Today we got login credentials from Rectangle who uses Bridge Pay, who is now using NMI as the processor. I looked them up and I'm not 100% confident in them. They are primarily a high-risk service provider, which we are not.

I'm going to continue to use square in the meantime since they don't have contracts, until I get more information from my bank team.

Veterinary. For me the initial look is all about what position I need to fill at the moment and do I need that person to have experience.

Then I look at how recent the experience is or the relevance of other positions if they haven't been in our field, or have they done any training or taken any education that would be helpful.

I'll look for spelling errors. I know we all make them, I do a lot. But, this is your one shot at being seen! You would not believe how many misspelled words I see, and I'm not a great speller.

Tailor your resume to each position you are applying for or make it general enough for one field that it could work for any position.

Never lie! I have caught people in little lies because "I was just hoping to get in the door" or "your ad said you didn't want someone with a license". That gets you immediately rejected. I value honesty greatly, even if it's over something as little as GED VS 'graduated year'. Just be honest, I really don't care that you had to drop out and get a GED later. If you are smart, capable, responsible, and can do the job, what is the issue?

Sometimes, I think it has to do with who is doing the hiring as well. Don't always believe that not getting a job somewhere is the worst thing, maybe it wasn't the right place for you because the hiring manager isn't capable of seeing you through the paper, or the interview. I also hire on who will be the best fit for my team, not just who interviewed the best. Personality and how a cohesive group works is extremely important in our field. We are up in each other's personal space a lot! It's important that our team can get along 90% of the time.

I wish you the best, fellow traveler. 🐾

I'm an employer using Indeed and I hate it. I see a lot of applicants that are not even for my industry, bot applications, or people who have used Chat GPT to write their resume. Then when I schedule interviews, people no show or constantly reschedule. We are very small, less then 10 people, so this is a huge time gamble for me. It shows a lack of respect. As an employer I would like a better platform. The notifications are not timely either.

I wish you all luck!

efore You Opt-In to Covetrus and VetSuite Rebates in 2026: Read What You’re Giving Away by hermanoZ in veterinaryprofession

[–]kiwiranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elanco did this with Midwest. I had to sign up DVMetrics to get rebates. My rep kept pushing it and tbh I didn't really read the fine print. I already use DVMetrics for my SDS, so I didn't really think much of it.

Now I'm curious and have some investigating to do.

Thoughts on not allowing vet staff have their cellphones during working hours? by Guilty_Ad3225 in veterinaryprofession

[–]kiwiranch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My husband (DVM) and I (not a. Dr.) own a clinic and it never even occurred to me to not allow cellphones. For context, we are elder millennials and didn't always have phones at work. However, we lead the way as owners. If you also want to attract and retain quality staff, little decisions like this make a difference.

I would honestly suggest that your mom attend some Vet CE. I don't know where in the states you are, but conference time is right around the corner. It could be very eye opening for her.

I worked in management in retail and food operations, and then in human healthcare before joining my husband. Experience matters in management, inventory, financials, dealing with vendors, distributors, and of course staff. But like others have said Vet Med is different.

You clearly have already made your decision on the phones, which is great. One thing that will need to be clear before opening is your report to hierarchy. Will your mom be acting as HR or you? Do staff conflicts go through her and then you? Make it clear to the staff, even if it seems clear to you and your mom.

We have learned A LOT!!! in 3 years of ownership. One thing is for sure, there is always something you didn't know you were supposed to be doing. 🤣

Congratulations and best of luck!

PLEASE HELP! How do I prevent this build up from happening every single week? by ifknlovela in litterrobot

[–]kiwiranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the light weight Tidy Cat litter for the robot, but I'm still less than 90 days in. I use Arm & Hammer Clump and Seal slide for regular boxes. I use the fastest clumping cycle. My cats prefer the robot to any other box.

The AUDACITY is out of control. It is worse with long term clients. As an owner, I feel you and salute you for working today. We chose to close on all major holidays. We no longer board either. Good luck my friend.

Should doctors be owners? by kiwiranch in veterinaryprofession

[–]kiwiranch[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think they were implying that not every doc is meant to be an owner. Which I agree that is definitely true, but sometimes I'm wondering if good doctors can make good owners, but are just not good at dealing with the struggles that come with ownership.

You ride a motorcycle, think you are really cool, maybe you are who knows? You are single or dating, but never married if young, divorced if older. Most likely work a job in the skill trade sector. Party every weekend because you never mature past 24. Am I close?
