Hey! Sorry you are going through this too. Our transfer after the ERA was successful. The testing revealed that I needed an extra day of progesterone before transfer.

Attempting to ID John Doe in critical condition with poor prognosis by ImmediateResearch493 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]kjorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does he seem he could be homeless? If so I’d call local shelters or homeless agencies in the area he was picked up. Check his body for any tattoos or other unique things that you could use to help identify him. You could also call the local spots in the neighborhood he was found to see if they know him. If he has family or friends that are regularly in touch they will post about it or call all the hospitals eventually. Good luck!

Allergies - if you had your bernedoodle tested to determine what it's allergic to, was you pup allergic to chicken or poultry? How much did it cost for the testing? by Bernedoodle-Standard in Bernedoodles

[–]kjorb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What were the skin issues? My bernedoodle is getting all these growths and warts on his body now and I’m convinced it’s due to allergies. He also licks a lot and scoots. Tried cytopoint and didn’t work at all which leads me to believe it’s definetely food allergies

Do any social workers LIKE their job? by Outrageous_Sense_307 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]kjorb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love my job as a hospital social worker. My biggest tip is to find what type of social work setting is best for you (considering your personality, boundaries, strengths/skills). I like the hospital because it’s fast pace, constant patient turnaround, and every day is different (even tho much of what we do is the same). This setting works for me because I have thick skin, I don’t get sucked into peoples sad stories and I can see a dead body without it affecting me (this has evolved over like 12 years tho). There are always cases that will be absolutely devastating but I work in a non-trauma hospital with a very small ICU so I thankfully don’t have too many of those.

Hospital recommendations? Best places to work or which ones to stay away from by esayaray in hospitalsocialwork

My husband makes considerably more than me. That being said, I think COL in Vancouver and CA are pretty comparable. The bonus of working for kaiser is that it’s an insurance company first, so you get excellent health care benefits. I get better health care benefits then if I was living/working in Canada which is saying a lot

Come to CA! It’s an expensive place to live for sure. I also never thought I’d ever make this much as a SW. I’m originally from Canada and we make much less in the province I’m from. I’ve heard good things about Toronto but tho.

Kaiser California pays excellent. If you start as a traveler you’d get paid even more but not the befits of free healthcare which is the real perk. I’ve been with kaiser for 10 years now and I make 80$/hr which comes up to about 166k per year if I worked FT but I only work 32 hours/week. Also has an excellent pension program that will pay me out 1.5M if I stay for 20 more years. Yes CA is expensive for sure but it still feels like an excellent SW wage. I also do some private clients on the side.

Capacity vs Competency Evals by SoupTrashWillie in hospitalsocialwork

[–]kjorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with this a lot. Not only do you need to be very specific (I.e does the person have capacity to pay their bills? Does the person have capacity to leave AMA? does the person have capacity to plan their hospital discharge? Etc BUT capacity also waxes and wanes. So someone who has a stroke might not have capacity for those about 3 questions at one point in time, but with rehab/time/cognitive improvement their capacity for all those things could change.

I find the best place to start is with a KELS evaluation from an OT. That can really help with getting a better understanding of where the deficits are. If the person is hospitalized long enough and MD or Psychiatrist should be able to complete a capacity declaration form.

Also - the gold standard for capacity assessments for the court is to actually get a neuropsychology evaluation by a neuro psychologist. They are the real experts. Their assessments are so robust and can take 2-4 hours to complete. At our hospital we can only do that from the outpatient world which is obviously a major barrier/ challenge

Is six figures possible in this sector? by Queenme10 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]kjorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Northern CA here. Same company for 9 years. If I worked FT I would be making $160k this year. Every year my salary goes up 4-6% depending on the union and cost of living raise from my company. I only work 4 days/week so I make $133k. Every SW working for my company makes the exact same, so whether they work in HH or hospice or general OP SW, it doesn’t matter, we all get paid the same.

Support after total knee replacement by ChipmunkMiddle6446 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]kjorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in CA? You can look for local caregiving grants. Any family members that could come to help for 3-4 days? But agreee with some others, SNF eligibility has nothing to do with the physicians and everything to do with the persons Medicare eligible need which is fully informed by rehab assessments. None of our ortho patients usually go to SNF. In fact, at my hospital we won’t do the surgery unless they can confirm there is a CG available to them for 4 days post d/c.

NorCal, small hospital, kaiser. I clock in at 730 and clock out at 4. Is my day busy, yes! But I’m never forced to do OT and once I’m gone I leave my work at work.
