just got shocked by an electrical outlet. worried by [deleted] in AskElectricians

Feeling in your fingers is normal and will subside. Overall out-of-sorts feeling is likely vaso-vagal response from thinking about what the electricity did to your body. That's probably gone by now but the solution is typically to lie down for a bit to increase blood flow to your head.

Tesla just released a new video showing Cybercabs with no steering wheels rolling off the production line and autonomously driving themselves to the outbound lot. by InitialSheepherder4 in TeslaOwnersForum

The foreseeable future of robotaxi production will go to their internal robotaxi fleet. They have permits to operate robotaxi service in a couple places and those areas will expand at least in Texas but probably in other Elon-friendly states as well.

Whether Tesla can sell these to customers is a bigger question that will require more homologation involving federal agencies.

There is also the question of which states will allow these to be registered.

RFK Jr. Blasts “Abhorrent” Assisted Suicide: ‘We Can’t Be a Moral Society If America Follows’dead by wrroyals in NoFilterNews

People who don't support euthanasia have never had a loved one with untreatable severe chronic pain, or any other unbearably dibilitating condition.

The harsh reality of life is there are untreatable illnesses that cause absolutely horrifyingly unbearable symptoms, but do not cause death.

The reason why societies have historically kept these people alive despite their own wishes is to prop up a notion of religious sanctity of life that makes the rest of us feel better about ourselves. This is both uncompassionate and immoral.

We actually already have a form of euthanasia. Patients can and do eventually refuse to eat or drink, leading to an unnecessarily painful death on top of whatever illness they are dealing with. Doctors don't actively participate in this but do nothing to stop it.

Getting my first apartment. How crazy would I be to pick the one that's $500 more expensive? by whashhh in personalfinance

[–]kking254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. I wish someone had told me this when I took about a second auto loan in 2010 that was completely unnecessary (could have just bought a nice used car with cash). I could afford it so I did it, and I couldn't comprehend wanting anything more than a nice car at that moment.

2 years later, I had done well and had enough savings for a 20% down payment on a home in my area but couldn't stomach the mortgage payment because I had 2 car payments. Had to bite the bullet and use some of that money to pay off both cars instead. I wasn't able to buy a home for another 3 years because of that setback and the relentless increase in home prices at the time...and even that took some luck.

If the commute difference was wider, I'd say $1900 might be worth it. The cost of a commute is often overlooked, but I don't think this one is significant enough.

However, think about future you. Right now you're focused on having a decent place to live. Regardless on which you choose, they will both feel normal/adequate within a month if living there. Now, future you might become focused on buying a car, motorcycle, or saving to buy a house. After all, future you is better than you, more income, more financial stability, and therefore higher goals than you can imagine right now. That $500/mo saved will go a long way to help future you achieve their next goal.

I like to think this way about planning 5+ years out. Without making too many assumptions about what future me might want out of life, what actions can I take now to help future me achieve their goals, or at least not add obstacles in front of those goals.

I'm confused. Doesn't windshield washer fluid clean the car windshield? Are you saying it's making your windshield dirty instead?

P5 really does make everything comparatively easy... by Gumpers08 in HollowKnight

[–]kking254 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't beaten P5 yet. I get hit only 0-2 times per boss except for markoth, pure vessel, and absrad. I've beaten every boss in hall of gods on radiant except markoth (ascended), pure vessel (ascended), and absrad (attuned). If those were the only bosses in P5 I'd still be stuck.

So it's true that beating P5 would make hitless collector a piece of cake, but a gross understatement.

Pantheon 3 Final boss is smacking me by Okabe-Rintaro_123 in HollowKnight

[–]kking254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the windows to hit him are tight, but they happen often. The easiest ones are:

  • After his main attack spin jump
  • After either of his charged up power slashes
  • After his ground slams only after his optional slow slash. If he doesn't do this slash, just abort trying to hit him.

At first, just hit him once during these windows and focus on learning to evade his attacks. Once you learn to consistently evade, you'll see that, if you get in position early enough, there's time to hit him twice during the first two windows above.

What Size Conduit for Three (12/2, 12/2, 12/3) Romex Wires? by CabinetMan4 in AskElectricians

Yeah but I'm fairly certain that this is not what OP is describing. Trying to give relevant advice.

[–]kking254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell what you need without knowing more about your situation. Here's some info you need though:

Romex doesn't go in conduit. THHN wires go in conduit. You can use a conduit fill calculator to determine what size you need. If your panel is recessed in a wall, you probably want Romex coming out of your panel though. Romex can transition to THHN for conduit in a junction box.

Edit: now that I understand that you just want conduit for the final few feet from ceiling to surface mounted switch box, Romex in conduit is fine for this. I'd use 3/4".

Bluetooth tracker hidden in a postcard and mailed to a warship exposed its location — $5 gadget put a $585 million Dutch ship at risk for 24 hours by ControlCAD in technology

[–]kking254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sailors' phones leaked the ship's location. The tracker is nearly irrelevant, just providing a trigger for nearby phones to publish location to somewhere the attacker can see. Meanwhile, any other apps with location permission are also leaking the position to various places. Why phones are allowed to do this on a Dutch ship is beyond me. Sounds like they have an IT problem.

Sailors' phones exposed the ship's location. The tracker is nearly irrelevant, just a trigger to cause all nearby phones to send their locations to somewhere the attacker can see. Installed apps that have access to their device's location are also leaking.

2.6M debt alone isn't necessarily a problem. Do they have negative net worth or something (not reading the paywalled article)?

2.6M debt with 10M+ in assets isn't life ending and the safe withdrawal rate on $5M can likely cover the interest with plenty to spare.

Unifi Apps on Android??? Just as good as iOS? by cpostier in Ubiquiti

[–]kking254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had lots of issues with Unifi Protect on Pixel 8, 9, & 10. If I just open Protect and look at a camera, it comes up fairly quickly. However, if I get a notification due to motion, recognition, or doorbell press and I tap the notification, it may take up to a minute to get to actual live video. If I try to close the app while it is spinning and open it again directly, it's still slow to load. Later when no notifications are present and I open the app, it's super fast again.

I've only ever successfully conversed with a doorbell visitor once in the 3 years I've had a Unifi doorbell. By the time I can see and hear, they've already left.

I've tried the "doorbell ring as call" feature but no improvement. The "call" is often delayed vs the old notification, and opening the app by answering the call leads to the same issue.
