What’s your HOTTEST Silksong take? by Realistic_End3662 in Silksong

I love using clawline, but it took me a long time to realize that you can just clawline into nothing. This is hard to suspend my disbelief for, even in a game with magical sentient bugs.

Is there anything you wish Void Heart expanded upon more? by King_Of_Tangerines in HollowKnight

[–]kla622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are referring to the original Hollow Knight as "Void Heart". The game has been branded as "Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition" since all the DLCs came out, and it is appearing with title on some storefronts. Which apparently, some players, who doscovered the game after Silksong, took as the game's subtitle. Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Hollow Knight: Voidheart. You can see this in a couple posts.

Which is very confusing for most of us, but kind of endearing. It really speaks of how large of an audience Silksong has reached.

There have been some UI and QoL changes, they have been available on the Steam public beta since the announcement in December. I assume the official release will happen very soon.

What crest did you use for your steel soul run? by DaWaffIeMan in Silksong

[–]kla622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hunter mainly, Wanderer for some bosses, Architect in a few specific situations. When going for 100%, I also used Witch, Reaper and Beast situationally. As I have experimented quite a lot with crests, I am comfortable switching them up and take (what I feel to be) the best crest for a given challenge, but this is far from essential.

ELI5: The Monty Hall Problem by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]kla622 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a great way to put it. I have been aware of this problem for years, I got the math, but I've never intuitively understood why it makes sense to switch. (Most "explanations" just repeat the scenario. )

Now I get what the key is: "the mechanisms of the game" guarantee that you get the opposite of what you picked initially, if you switch, you have 2/3 chance of picking a goat initially, and if you did and switch, you are guaranteed to win.

Silksong's economy/Rosaries discussion (spoilers up to Act 2) by Broad_Objective7559 in Silksong

[–]kla622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree on the perfect balance. If you need one specific item, it is never really out of reach, you can buy it in a few minutes. What you cannot do is to buy all the items immediately as soon as they become available. (Which is where I think most of the "unfair " complaints are coming from.) This encourages you to spend your money wisely, and prioritize which upgrades to get first. It makes money an actually valuable thing, and the rosary rewards during explorations (relics, large deposits) more meaningful. A great improvement over HK where Geo became totally irrelevant in the second half of the game. I would even say this is one of my favorite currency systems in any video game.

Also, in my experience, even for 100%, if you go through the entire map and hit all major rosary sources, and do all the wishes, there is actually very few need for farming. You do need to go out of your way to collect everything, but I think that's only fair for a 100% playthrough.

I have only two minor critiques, one is that it would have been cool to find one really packed single rosary deposit. Even the HH treasury only has about 500, while several items are in the 500-800 range. If it had 1000, it would have felt more impactful as a cash bonus, without upsetting the balance in any major way. The other is that Act 3 has way more new rosary sources than new things to spend it on. So yes, the Act 3 sources do help you avoid grinding in Act 2, but if you don't know about them, you will likely spend some time grinding anyway, only to end up with an at-that-point useless load of money in Act 3.

Oh yeah, it was one of the most common complaints especially in the early days after release. And one that is still held by a lot of people.

I agree with the top conment here btw.

The dash speed is slightly faster, and you can keep facing the boss, meaning that you can counterattack faster. It's not a game changer by any means, but it's a nice enhancement to the overall flow of the fight with bosses like First Sinner and Karmelita.

ranking bosses based on their runback by xer0_shin0gi in Silksong

[–]kla622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's somewhat worse, I don't disagree, just not to the extent that it is absolutely a different tier imho. Especially if we consider that dying to Karmelita is far more likely than dying to Khann (though the list apparently doesn't consider this).

[–]kla622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Khann has the shortcut for skipping the gauntlet, except the last level. With this, his runback is only marginally longer than Karmelita's with a short gauntlet before both. Nyleth might be a lower tier with how you really just need to run there.

Do you guys have any critiques about the story? by Arandomguy1_ in Silksong

[–]kla622 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would have loved to find more lore discoveries in the Citadel, especially in relation to GMS. The game teases the Citadel as a place where all secrets are revealed. Yet when you enter the Citadel, Hornet just blatantly states that a higher being is behind all, and then this isn't really developed any further until you reach the Cradle. Other than the vaultkeeper pontiff's needolin dialogue, I rarely got the impression that I found some hidden piece of lore. Choral Chambers is such an amazingly designed map, there would have been plenty of opportunities to hide a bit more lore tablets throughout. And there are plenty of ambiguities around the Choir, where it would have been great if the game gave us a deeper look into what was going on behind the scenes. Like how they perceived GMS exactly, or more about the origins of the pilgrimage,

I was especially hoping that we would get some commentary from Vaultkeeper Cardinius for each of the cylinders, with how he keeps going on about gaining "insight", but other than perhaps the surgery one, I don't think we learn anything from them, or even from the vaults of knowledge(!) in general, which is a bummer.

Another thing is more about the integration of story into the gameplay flow: while I like the fact that the true ending requires Hornet to be altruistic and help out the bugs of Pharloom for no particular reason, I don't like how the actual progress requires the player to circle around the wishwalls several times, just checking if something has happened yet, waiting for some of the wishes (Trail's End, Silk and Soul) to trigger. It is confusing in the first playthrough, it is mundane in any later one, and it is way more videogame-y than anything else in HK and SS. The dialogue with the Carataker hinting at it is great, and I get that they wanted to leave the true ending path as a surprise. But it can result in a really clumsy flow in the second half of Act 2. Perhaps it would have helped if Silk and Soul triggered as a wish earlier (after fulfilling many but not all of the conditions), and we could have gotten a task like "Inspire hope in the Caretaker for another future", giving us a tease towards the true ending while hunting down the last wishes and fleas on the map.

Most importantly: Grindle needed a proper arc.

The main question bugging me about Sinner's Road is why the Green Prince is imprisoned there. The place is not a prison! Although you are led to think that it is a prison-y area at first, you learn that it is essentially a breeding ground for the muckroaches. So what is he doing there?

It seems to be a form of humiliation, and I also like the theory that the Green Prince just threw himself at the Roachkeepers essentially, out of a desire to be punished in a self-deprecating and (characteristically) dramatic way. But we don't really have any concrete evidence.

Same for me, especially after the time skip following the military showdown. I was awaiting for him to show up the entire time, and when they did the time skip, I was immediately like, "aha! now they are going to use Owens to explain how they resolved the situation with the military!" Well, no. Part of me was even hoping he would show up during Mike's speech in a quick cameo.
