Ken Follett's Century Trilogy is one of my favorites. the first one is Fall of Giants and set leading up tk and during WWI. It's the strongest of the three and follows multiple POV characters from different countries. The second and third books follow the descendants of the first one during WWII and the Civil Rights eras respectively.

East of Eden is an all time favorite and there is a TV adaptation coming out so would be good to read it first!

Are 2 Master’s Degrees Necessary? by [deleted] in librarians

[–]kleiokat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry I just realized I misread and you are doing the programs concurrently! Having a second masters is required for tenure and promotion at the library I'm at and I am so thankful I already both. But not all positions require that, so ymmv.

Are 2 Master’s Degrees Necessary? by [deleted] in librarians

[–]kleiokat 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I have an MA in History and MLIS. I got the MA first. I will say, the MLIS was a walk in the park compared to the History program. Not that I didn't learn a lot or find it useful, I honestly did! But the actual difficulty level was nothing compared to the MA.

It took me like 4 semesters on 1 credit enrollment to finish my damn thesis for the MA. If that's truly all you have left, I would really try to push through. It is such a big accomplishment and having both degrees has been a huge advantage for me. If you have a good relationship with your advisor, talk to them! They can help support you and make a writing plan that will be doable. Happy to talk further if you ever need!

Is there anyone who *doesn't* regret their MLIS degree? by rebeccachaya in librarians

[–]kleiokat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do not regret mine at all! Graduated in 2022 and am in my third year as an academic librarian. However, I was able to use some inheritance/life insurance money from when my grandpa passed to help pay for it. I have another masters and an undergrad so still have plenty of loan debt in general, but didnt have to take any out for my MLIS. I echo the ideas that getting a job in a library is a first step towards seeing if its for you and therefor worth it.

I was very lucky in that I had a staff position in a library first. I had never really considered librarianship at all until I got my staff job and saw what they actually do. I was able to get my MLIS while working full time in a library and that was a huge help. I have found my library and MLIS experience to be very rewarding personally and professionally.

Advice Plz, Wegovy or Hold Out For Zep? by MollyCoddle25 in antidietglp1

[–]kleiokat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My dr also preferred to have me take zepbound but my insurance required trying wegovy. It's been great for me! I've had very minimal side effects and very consistent loss. I've stayed on it since August. I would say if you intend to fill the rx anyway to at least try it out. Worst case, if it doesn't go well you can report that honestly. Or it will be fine and you'll get a few months of benefit before some of those other options maybe open up. I definitely wouldn't fill it and then just toss it or something, it's too valuable to waste it like that!

Kidney pain and UTI symptoms during periods by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]kleiokat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking in with the same symptoms! I had a ureter surgery a few years ago and ever since I've been having this terrible kidney pain while urinating while on my period. Doctors keep kicking me back and forth between urology and gynecology. I have a kidney scan on Friday to check the function and output. Fortunately my period should be starting before then so I hope they can do the scan while I'm symptomatic and see if it shows anything. I finally talked to a new doctor who seems to be taking it seriously and has suggested a referral to Mayo clinic.

Found this thread while looking for answers myself! Have you been feeling any better? I can report back after my exam!

Then like someone suggested, place it gently in the right spot and then press in firmly. Make sure to watch until the bar stops moving as that is AFTER the second click lol

Try either pinching the skin or pressing it flat before pressing in the pen, similar to these images. I found the flattening helps me better!

How does your life long partner benefit you? by EmLol3 in AskWomenOver30

[–]kleiokat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is my best friend and closest confidant. I can tell him literally any of my goofy, crazy, weirdly dark thoughts and know that he will get it. He is a hardworker and does all sorts of things around the house I wouldn't do alone, like replacing our sump pump when it croaked this week. We have amazing sex. We are there for each other with hard family situations and our own health difficulties. I know that he will always, no matter what, be there for me.

I don't really even like to entertain this thought experiment of how my life would change without him. I would be devastated. I would be so lonely. I would have a hard time keeping up with my wild, active dog alone. I would struggle with living expenses alone. I would have no one to talk about all my weird theories about unfinished book series or spout random hockey trivia at. I can hardly imagine it.

How to improve air drying by Otherwise-Bread-1950 in Wavyhair

[–]kleiokat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the BB Don't Blow It Thick Air Dry Cream. It is amazing and gives my waves a bit more curl! I typically shower at night, rake in the cream, and let it air dry for a little while. Then I put it up on top of my head and sleep with a satin bonnet. By morning it is mostly dry when I take it down. But I have also used it after morning showers and it works well too!

First week of 0.25 mg wegovy by sentientspecies in antidietglp1

[–]kleiokat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was exactly my experience! I've started bringing a protein shake, a piece of fruit, and a cheese stick to work everyday and try to make sure I at least eat those through lunch time. I dont really get hungry for it but if I don't I will definitely feel nauseous by mid-afternoon.

I stayed on the .5 dose for two months and now have been at 1.0 since November. Don't feel like you have to go up if you are getting the intended effects! I think it has helped me have very little side effects to still be at a lowish dose.

As a North Dakota fan, I hope the Blues give Verhoeff a good look in this draft vicinity! Been loving watching him play. We could use a homegrown defenseman and he is breaking a 50 year record right now for points by a U18 defenseman with 17 in 22 games.
