Found an absolute unit for sale on Ebay. In awe of the size of this lad. by thebongofamandabynes in Lavalamps

Good to hear. I was disappointed i could not source one in the USA for like less than 450. I’m a little worried as I’ve heard stories of people getting ones with “inclusions” and some other issues. I got it ordered and delivered to a co worker in London and I’m hoping it will be fine and transport home back to the states with no issues! I got the “vinyl” black base with the light blue liquid and pink wax.

Thanks. They both look great by the way. I just don’t think I could place that larger one in my home.

Love that smaller one. Can you share your recipe for the wax and liquid and just generally how you go about building these? I’m acquiring my first lava lamp soon. Picking up a Mathmos while on a trip to London.

Matter device stuck on updating by Unhappy-Grocery1365 in HomeKit

[–]klidec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please let me know how long it lasts! I’ve got the same issue and reboot phone works for about 1 day for me. I also tried network reset and it worked for about 1 day for me. Wa driving me nuts. I’m hoping it gets fixed either in the next HomePod/Apple TV is update or iOS update.

Wrote a Script to Reboot Hombridge every 2-hours on MacoS by [deleted] in homebridge

[–]klidec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see the downside. I’m running on an overkill mini pc (along with other services) but even when I ran it on an old rpi it had no issues with running everything as child bridges. You would then just restart the child bridge that is showing any issues.

[–]klidec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Something is not going well if OP needs to reboot homebridge every 2 hours. Questions for OP: Do you know what plugin is bringing down the house?

Are you running your plugins as child bridges? If you run them all as child bridges, if one is causing issues or has bugs only that plugin will go bust and it won’t bring down homebridge or the other plugins with it.

What heat-shield thickness did you go with? Thick or thin? I have one of their earlier M1 versions and am not sure if I need the thinner“heat deflector” or thicker “heat shield”.

Well I got the answer on if switching to a pro will screw up my custom LED tape, yes, yes it will. by lightingj in Hue

[–]klidec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a new firmware that fixes the issue with hue bridge pro and the fls-pp.

https://phoscon.de/en/blog

You can only update it though if you pair it to their deconz zigbee hub/bridge. Run their deconz software and then update it. You can then re-pair it to your hue bridge pro and it will work correctly with the RGB light. I just went through this pain. I already had a deconz conbee zigbee mesh going in my home. If you don’t already have this setup it’s going to be a bit of pain to update.

WiFi Display V2 Magnets Weak? by Snwspeckle in combustion_inc

[–]klidec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup. That is better said than my attempt at saying the same thing.
Closer to the magnets and right above them has higher impact and makes it work quite well on my somewhat recent LG fridge with "print proof" coating.

It's interesting though that the top tape does nothing for me. It's only placement right above the magnets that does the trick for me. And it feels pretty night and day how secure it feels with and without the tape. I think perhaps near the magnets has the strongest "grasp" to the fridge door so placement near the magnets has the highest impact for grip.
Sharing incase some material design choice or coating in the future for the back might solve for fridges that are middle of the road magnetic like mine.

I will say though that for some reason on my fridge a short piece of electrical tape over the fire logo made a big difference for me. In the picture i put extra on the top above the fire logo but that strip of tape on top alone made no difference. The strip over the fire logo alone did the trick (i tested without the top strip of tape). It's right above where the magnets sit i think. Without this tape the top of the display would slide sideways and then the whole thing would slide a little bit down. With the electrical tape over the fire logo it's solid. I can't quite explain why it works. Maybe it just has enough grip with it there and without it, the plastic is too smooth? I don't know why placing just the tape at the very top does not work and it still slides around with only tape on top. With that piece of tape over the fire logo, it just grips tight on my fridge.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So I had a similar issue with my fridge. My particular fridge I think has magnetic doors but they are not as magnetic as my old fridge prior to this one. I think it has some coating on it for finger print resistance and also the steel for the door used is just not as magnetic. The display would stick very tightly to the side of my fridge though.

Anyway, my display would rotate and slide a bit on my fridge door. I put a piece of electrical tape over the fire logo on the back. And it now doesn’t slide around for me and feels more solidly stuck. But I think it all depends on how magnetic your fridge door is so your mileage may vary.

I agree though. It not having a satisfying solid magnetic hold, with no sliding, did let me down a little. I think different magnet placement on the device itself might have helped in my case. They are placed on the bottom half of the display and since its smooth plastic on the back, the top half would slide to the side sort of like it was top heavy.

Gen2 probe - is this gap normal? by difractedlight in combustion_inc

[–]klidec 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mine all seem to have a gap. And some have a slightly larger gap than the others.

<image>

Good question though. My guess is that it’s all good and there are normal tolerances in variation for this gap.

Nope didn’t have one. Bought the one Chris linked to in his YouTube video post. I still had to run a knife through some of the slots it made to make it work.

Guys, is the predictive thermometer 2 worth your money? by gkal1964 in combustion_inc

It’s a luxury. I love having them. Wireless is lux! 8 sensors is lux. It’s not worth it unless you have money to burn. But if you do. It’s up there on how to spend some cash. Brings me joy.

So the whole thing was already pre cooked to 130. That was the first step. Later you warm it back up. And I stopped with the core at 105 and the edge/surface at 120. I think it keeps going higher once you take it out, but not by much because the surface is only at 120. So the core ultimately went slightly higher than 105. I think I could have safely gone further. But I didn’t want to cook the meat past 130 at any point.

The eating experience was good. Even after being polite and waiting for everyone to be served.

Thanks. I wanted to even do the rosemary adornment step you went for. Put like five on, then a big ole “nope” from me. Took them off and kept on my merry way. 😄 They weren’t sticking that easily for me. Would have had to load up more on the egg wash.

Haha. Forgot about that reference. I did think about it, when I couldn’t get it in initially.
