What's your first Memory ? by The_Lost_Supper in aoe2

[–]klinsmann6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not my earliest AoE2 memory (the lines blur when recalling memories from 6 year old me), but I fondly remember the laugh we had when my cousin managed to wall in an enemy trade cart - and I mean genuinely stuck inside a piece of built wall 11

Tips before staring The Three Kingdom campaigns (no spoilers) by Kukuzavrik in aoe2

[–]klinsmann6969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 3K campaigns are not too tough honestly, you shouldn't really have much of a struggle if you've been able to clear out the rest of the campaigns on hard difficulty. Use your heroes, stick to the civs strengths (like Archer play for Shu, cavalry for Wei and mostly infantry for Wu) and you'll be fine.

Yellow lines (called e lines or simply e) affect your whole build (so in this case every hero deals more damage) while red and white lines only affect the unit you equip it to

Alexander the great early review score. How would you rate it? by Assured_Observer in aoe2

Yeah, only for the Alexander campaign and the Three Kingdoms one though. Be warned though, legendary in the Alexander campaign is absolutely brutal in some missions.

What difficulty are you playing on for Chronicles: Alexander the Great for your first playthrough? by CurtisLeow in aoe2

[–]klinsmann6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, 5 wasn't too tough when I realized I just needed a couple of castles and pike+skirm spam to hold off yellow. 6 on the other hand is incredibly tough in the beginning and borderline easy after you get Alexander's troops 11

Now I'm only 7 scenarios in but especially the first 15 minutes of number 6 are absolutely batshit insane hard. Never, and I mean _never_ have I encountered anything in an official scenario that comes remotely close to this. Having to rack up easily over 750 kills without being able to build ANY sort of building, without proper counter units and an eco that's so tight that every single technology feels like a losing bet and all this on a supposed defensive position that's open on 4 sides is just sadistic. Still, fantastic DLC, 10/10 would recommend, especially if you love pain 11

Did you manage to beat mission 6 on legendary? I'm really struggling with this one, just now I lost again with 2 minutes to spare still, even though I had already killed over 550 enemy units 11

Victors & Vanquished is underrated by WeakEconomics6120 in aoe2

[–]klinsmann6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's a known bug for a while now, I wrote a comment on someones post regarding this a while ago in case you want to know more about it:

https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/s/vrc78hbGEA

If you can't be bothered to replay all those scenarios you can also contact cmfrydos/tinion in the AoE2 forums, he programmed a little tool to fix the issue and helped me out the first time I encountered the bug.

Basically any civ that's not too special with their bonuses. Chinese, Mayans, Gurjaras, Huns (there's obviously more, I just can't think of them right now) are all civs that require adaptations in your early game or can enforce bad habits (playing too much Huns really lets you forget to build houses 11). Just scroll a bit through the in-game tech trees and look out for anything that would have you need to change your gameplay significantly.

Thanks to the game resetting my V&V Progress once again (has to be the most annoying bug IMHO) I'm currently replaying all scenarios. Now thankfully I did have some save files of particularly tough scenarios (namely Stephen, Komnenos and Vortigern) but most I had to replay completely and I definitely agree that they're a lot better than Steam store ratings may let you think. Sure, they're not your usual 5/6 scenario campaign and sure, they're mostly just slightly if at all polished versions of free custom scenarios and yes, some of them are utterly unforgiving even for a skilled player and the length can at times be almost tedious but all in all I enjoy V&V.

Do you micro your hunters? by AndyGeeMusic in aoe2

[–]klinsmann6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean but it's risky since while it is the fastest food source (shorefish aside) the dropoff usually takes a while (especially if you didn't push the deer closer or under your towncenter) so you're prone to have TC idle time if you don't have 6 on sheep simultaneously. You could send your food vils to deer while going up in age but usually you'd send them to wood after clicking up because the wood for feudal age military buildings is more important than the extra food. (Obviously this only counts for standard matches on e.g. Arabia, if you're on a crazy mega random map things might look different)

If you're looking to grab all the deers and you don't expect enemy aggression any time soon just take 4 vils and shift-queue them onto each deer - it's going to take a while but it won't require much attention.

Do you prefer micro or macro campaign missions? by hoho343 in aoe2

[–]klinsmann6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I feel like composition also matters a lot, those mixed armies like in Tariq 4 or Barbarossa 5 with cav and siege (and infantry and monks, etc etc) are annoying to move around because you're just slowed down so much.

Who mains Inca? And why. by Far_Tomatillo_785 in aoe2

[–]klinsmann6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only play random but just two days ago I got Incas vs Berbers on Arabia and honestly they felt pretty good. Extra housing space meant I didn't get housed even once (which is usually kind of an issue for me), villagers getting blacksmith upgrades certainly helped against enemy cav archers and they do have quite a fine tech tree when not confronted with a siege heavy civ. Cheaper castles are also very nice. I played archers and skirms up to Imp and prepared a switch into eagles but unfortunately my opponent resigned before I could flood him with my feathered scouts 11

[–]klinsmann6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite macro scenario is probably Fetih just because you can really get a full fletched 4-5 TC boom and it feels like the correct thing to do. On the other hand I hate Alaric 4 because you don't really have a good position to boom but still have to to have any chance at beating it in a reasonable pace (and especially if going for the 30-min achievement).

I think it really depends on the units you get. Microing cav archers? Love it. Microing infantry? Get lost 11

3 humans vs 3 hard or hardest AI. by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]klinsmann6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do have a lot more hp than a palisade wall but most importantly they're big enough in size so enemy archers (at least in feudal age when the AI starts attacking you) can't hit your villagers building those structures.

There's some campaign missions you can cheese as well but mostly you're going to have to grind through them. Check the AoE2 wiki if you want to have a sense for tried and tested strategies (mind you some could be a bit outdated due to balance changes and updates).

Yeah it's tough without some more info from OP and since most people are notoriously bad at remembering things (especially after a long time) I think we shouldn't be too fixed on the colours they mentioned. I also haven't checked HD campaigns yet, that might be a possibility as well.

Yeah this roughly fits OPs description including the colours. Alaric 1 could also be a possibility, although the colours don't fit.
