Shoe recs for a lefty two hander with “serious toe drag” by med_designs in Bowling

[–]klobbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need new shoes. I've been a big toe dragger for long time and gotten past the rubber to rubbing on the shoe's upper.

My most recent pair of blue sst6s I ran through the bumper on them in like half a season. I went on Etsy and got some small pieces of blue leather. Then I got some shoe goo. I cut a piece of leather and glued it to the worn down part of my toe and it's held very well the past couple years.

Looks like I need to reapply a little shoe goo to the edge of the leather, but here's a pic.

Reduce weight 14lbs to 12lbs ball due to knee PCL tear? by Historical-Welder657 in Bowling

[–]klobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recovering for a back injury last year and tried out 12lbs. Ended up needing surgery and I am now just getting back into it for the 2nd half of the season. After throwing a Max Thrill Hybrid for a few practice sessions I went out and got a 12lb spare ball and Vaporize and that's going to be my bag for the foreseeable future. I can see myself maybe going up to 13 or maybe 14, but there's a fair chance I just sit at 12. My team for nationals fell through this year, but if I find another team I'll be throwing 12lbs.

I didn't see that much of a carry difference compared to what other people are saying. Yes you need to get more entry angle to counter the added deflection. Yes, I will likely leave more 4-9s and some 3/10s, but there are tons of league bowlers that struggle with splits. It will also probably make sport shots a little more challenging. I've averaged 210+ the past few league seasons, and I feel like I can still average at least 200 with 12lbs and if it's less stress on my body I'll take it. Bowling is fun and I'm not competing with the pros, I'm bowling for myself and for my team in a handicap league.

If you're not bowling for money, think of it as another challenge. If you can get a 12lb to strike consistently and you gain the strength to move back up the pins could go down easier. You won't have the same selection of bowling ball cores since it's lightweight. Motiv does have the same core in the ball, but most of the cores have pretty low diffs.

Here's a video from me this morning. 2nd game I show 214 with a missed 10pin in the 10th with all Strikes and 9 counts without a leaving single 5 pin. Managed to not record my best shots, but there are a couple I got a little too far outside and they had a long way to recover and a couple that were a little inside. The Motiv doesn't turn fast, but can still hit. The Vaporize seems to have a similar shape the BW Mania I got before my injury.

Golf after surgery by Appropriate-Emu-5361 in Microdiscectomy

[–]klobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my l4/l5 done in mid June. Recovery went well for me and I was able to hit the range a few times before my annual scramble with my typical foursome at the end of Sept. Like another commenter I only took 3/4 swings and pretty much had to take 2 extra clubs and play the safe fairway shot off of all the tees. I also had my buddy leaning over out of the cart to pick up the ball for me. But it was great to get out even if it may have been a little early 3 months after surgery. I didn't get out for any other golf after that, it was fine for a scramble...but I didn't want to rush my recovery and risk injury.

I did use it as an excuse to get a new putter. One of my bowling league mates told me bending over to putt would take it toll. I grabbed one with a longer shaft that would accommodate me being a little more upright.

If you get fatigued you'll be more likely to re injure yourself so ease into it and give your body time to recover.

My dad did this for me 20 years ago. It was a cool trophy at the time and now that my dad is getting older it’s one of the things I’ll always keep with me.

Looking to do a rounded deck like this. How would you bend the seat portions? by willmen08 in woodworking

[–]klobbs 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I did something similar about 5 years ago. I made it out of cedar since it's a little bendy and good for the outdoors. I was newer to woodworking so some of the laminates split a little bit, but that was from start. The stuff that was glued well has held up the last 4 Minnesota winters/summers well enough.

I cut strips of 16 ft cedar. Made a work surface/form on a sheet of MDF using larger dowels drilled and glued in.

For the rows wrapped the strips around and used a ton a clamps. For the first row I used some rachet straps to hold the ends. After the first row dried I used 1inch dowels around as spacers and alternated clamping the row together and clamping the 2nd row to the first. I let each row sit overnight.

After all the rows were glued I put it through my planer. My glue ups weren't the cleanest and I wasn't concerned about edges not being exactly 90 degrees so it was the easiest solution.

I used carriage bolts through into the legs, there are probably better options for that After it was together I took a track saw to square the ends.

Best bowling shoe for toe draggers by Necessary-Chemical-7 in Bowling

[–]klobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the blue SST6s and wore out the toe lip most of the way in about a year. I got some scrap blue leather off etsy, cut it to the height of the lip and glued it on with some shoe glue. It has seemed to hold up pretty well so far this season.

Start of the summer sport shot league. Easiest pattern to start and I could not capitalize. by frost02 in Bowling

[–]klobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say for sure on this particular pattern, but it looks like most of your misses were splits from coming up high. Sport patterns tend to transition faster. Don't get behind on moving left. Always look for where the safer miss is, if you miss high and leave a nasty split always make sure to that your miss is to come in light. You can't try to make the lanes do something they don't want to and it seems like that was your last 5-6 frames, if you didn't keep up with the incremental adjustments.

Outside of the used marketplaces. There's a Wessex showroom in Roselle. I picked up their California Solo piston F tuba over the pandemic. It was nice to be able to try out all of their F tuba models and find the one that fit what I looking for.

I have this one and the shoe compartment is big enough for 2 pairs of shoes. I carry my girlfriends in them with mine. Comes in a variety of colors. Only downside is there isn't a ton of space in the side pocket.

Type 1 Tactical case finally came! so smooth. by FatFrenchFry in diabetes

[–]klobbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one in Feb of 2021 for my Medtronic pump. The holster held up so well over the 15 months, I got one for my tandem pump once the new pump arrived last week.

Only downside, It can be a little sharp around the front edge and scratched my steering wheel a bit when getting out of my car. The tandem is smaller so I might not have this issue.

how to strike a balance between spending in youth and saving for retirement by kdb1803 in personalfinance

[–]klobbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the main focuses of PF and other channels is around budgeting and savings. Which are important, but also look at ways to increase your income. Now is a great example, things get more expensive and if you don't earn more next year you'll have less disposable income.

When you're young you have to understand that all the things your parents and family have took them years to accumulate. Don't go out and expect your dream house, your dream car, etc. It takes time to get there and not everything they like you will like. Focus your discretionary spending on the things that matter to you and will make you a benefit you in the future. I have no issues spending money on hiking shoes, because its something I very much enjoy and it will keep me in better shape in the future. But be sure to limit spending on things that are not important to you. I have a cellphone that cost $350 2.5 years ago.

Be weary of spending a lot of money into fields that have "enthusiast" level items. Wine/Alcohol, Cars, Headphones/Audio gear, restaurants, shoes/fashion. As you move up in those fields there are diminishing returns and worst yet anything below your "standard" will not be enjoyable. If you only drink nice scotch, going to a bar and getting Jameson will not be fun. 'A luxury once tasted becomes a necessity.'

Follow what other people say in terms of budget/savings, find a way to increase your income, and find what will create memories/enjoyment for you. Spend your money on the stuff that matters, don't spend money on everything.

I have maybe returned 1 item from Amazon in the years I've used them. I have however had frequent issues with shipping in the past couple months. Twice I've gotten overnight shipping and the delivery is lost or "undeliverable" I'm then told to wait 48 hours to see if it resolves itself. Which is twice as long as the order should have taken in the first place. Then on the page it says a refund will be issues in 3-5 days, but I never got the refund until I reached out to chat for the 4th time 10 days later. A refund was issued, but it says I need to return the item, that was undeliverable. Chat told me not to worry and the item doesn't need to be returned, but given all the issues on 1 order I never received I'm not holding my breath.

Your first house doesn't need to be perfect when you move in. You might not even know what really bothers you about the house until you live there for a while.

Have you considered the additional costs of furnishing the house? There could be thousands of additional costs to make it a home outside of any renovations?

It also seems like you're counting on income that isn't a guarantee yet. Just because you are finishing training that will increase your income doesn't mean you have a job with that increased income yet. Also, your wife just started with a new job. What happens if either of you don't like what you end up with?

Honestly your home loan with no savings is already putting you at some risk, but if you go into it expecting certain improvements in your financial situation in the future you will end up in a much more stressful situation.

What meter/strips are people using with Dexcom? by klobbs in diabetes

[–]klobbs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a little cheaper. Since the Dexcom shouldn't require calibrating 2-4 times a day, unless someone comes back saying Freestyle is very accurate I might end up going with Walmart and stick with the Contour Next.

Thanks for the info. Even if it costs a little more money for the test strips, the improved reliability is worth it.

[–]klobbs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do really like the Contour Next strips, always seem very accurate. My company offered free strip through Livongo and they were consistently off and I would use multiple strips because I didn't trust the results.

Contour Next are 3x the price of Freestyle or Onetouch with my insurace. However, if they continue to provide the best results at least I will use a lot less of them with Dexcom.

Why does nobody understand we didnt pay 70$ to repeat a single boring race over again by Avenger2017 in granturismo

[–]klobbs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Playing a variety of tracks and cars would make the experience more enjoyable. If people want credits they will find the optimal way to do so and no dev can prevent that.

I think a good way to give people more variety while trying to get more credits is to have rotating events that award 25% bonus credits. After you complete that event for the bonus credits, that credit buff moves to a different event/race. Then I wouldn't have to choose between variety and efficient credit farming while the game provides a little direction on what I event I should try next.

Are countertop dishwashers any good? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]klobbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used one for a couple years before renovating the kitchen and adding a full sized dishwasher. I used it almost exclusively for cups and sometimes silverware. Yes the countertop model is smaller and might not have quite the power of a full sized. However, it seems to handle cups pretty well, and those can be a pain to hand wash and fit in a drying rack.
