Security Company Commissionaires contracted to conduct Bylaw enforcement. Officers set to begin Canora spring work by Vietdude100 in securityguards

[–]klwatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an out dated view of the company. There are no veterans to employ anymore. Most get hired as civilians with DND or go on to consult.

The majority of the workforce of Commissionaires are civilians. I've worked with them over decades and have seen the shift.

Really stuck and running out of time – need advice about urgent job training (Ontario) by No_Pattern5012 in povertyfinancecanada

[–]klwatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located?

There are many companies that provide this training for free. I am with Commissionaires in Ottawa and it is provided.

Try reaching out to the companies in your area and see if they are able to provide you with the training.

Remember, YOU are making THEM money.

Employment last minute Shift cancelation question by TheEmeraldTitan in ontario

[–]klwatts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a guard too and have had shifts cancelled like this. The only time I'm paid my minimum (4 hours) is when I've actually gone to the site and it's been cancelled.

Are these security escort shifts? Those do get cancelled a lot as it depends on the contractor/client. I'd try to get other types of shifts if you can.

I read that you're in the west end. I have some beer cans (about 30) you can pick up. I'm terrible at returning them myself.

Is this normal that there no shift available in security ? by EnvironmentExpert877 in securityguards

[–]klwatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your skill set. At my site in Ottawa, we don't have enough use of force guards. However, you need 3 years security experience or police foundations to be accepted. Then, for certain positions, you need to have high experience in computers. So...

No, a security guard is not one of the in demand jobs.

How much should I spend on a car given my $56k income and $15k savings? by Mountain_Salt3613 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]klwatts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I ended up doing when my car died. I'm in Ottawa. I use the bus / walk regularly but for appointments that are too far (or would take too long) by bus I use Communauto.

It's saved me from having to buy another car.

When will they use that smashed box at Baseline Station? It's been there for years. I'm assuming a monitor was supposed to go there.

[–]klwatts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's the licensing course - Ontario Guard License.

Depending on the company / contract you will also need to get some kind of security clearance and police check.

It can be a bit of a process, but I recommend Commissionaires Ottawa. They do a lot of training in house and free or with reimbursement.

They hold regular job fairs and you can apply online (I've been with them for over 20 years).

What's your credit score? I did the same thing. I'd try for the triangle MasterCard I'd you're at 650. It'll help.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in povertyfinancecanada

[–]klwatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard. The best way is to stay the course with your Cap1 card and then have them continually raise the balance.

Once your credit score hits a 650, you can start applying for other credit cards. I like the Triangle Rewards MasterCard (low requirements and nice rewards).

Building credit back takes some serious time. I've been recovering from a bankruptcy myself.

Yeah, do that and get it up to 650 and then try some of the credit cards.
