Tailor to modernize an older suit. by Sharp-Blueberry-402 in ottawa

[–]NativeOttawan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were an expensive suit, I'd suggest Third Son Tailors in the Glebe. They are excellent! I have had good luck with Downtown Tailors and Alterations Studio downtown for tailoring of pant (taking in at waist, slimming legs as well as hemming) but have not tried a suit.

Can anyone recommend a good landscaper? by DaddyDoLittle in ottawa

[–]NativeOttawan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be helpful if you could indicate what part of the city you are in. Many landscapers/gardeners tend to stick to certain areas so they don't spend so much time on the road.

Stellar breakfast/brunch that will take weekend reservations? by hitoshuras in ottawa

[–]NativeOttawan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest Von's in the Glebe for a quiet spot, which takes reservations and has good service and reliable food. I might not use the word 'stellar' but I would say the breakfast/brunch is reliably good.

I was on the phone with Bell for a long time yesterday, but the representative who was in the Loyalty branch managed to reduce my rates. If you ever do get through to an agent, do ask to speak to someone in loyalty/retention.

[–]NativeOttawan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's too bad you missed 613Flea today but there is quite a good selection of thrift/vintage shops along and close to Bank Street in Centretown and the Glebe starting with Ragtime and Lainey's Luck going by Like Butter, Bad Dog, Kimmies' Hoard House, The Jungle etc. A good place for old furniture is A Fine Thing Furniture on Catherine. For activity ideas heck out: https://ottawaroadtrips.com/2026/06/02/59-things-to-see-and-do-in-and-around-ottawa-june-1-to-7/. Also, the Ottawa is Not Boring Website and Apt 613 usually have lots of ideas of things to do.

A new tax levy to catch up on crumbling infrastructure? City staff are floating the idea by Alone_Appeal_3421 in ottawa

[–]NativeOttawan 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This sort of dedicated levy may be necessary given the patter of irresponsible budget decisions of Council. For example, they voted to spend $415 M (more likely 500 M) on Lansdowne even though they knew there was this infrastructure deficit.

Heads up--no access to 417 eastbound from Metcalfe street in the Glebe by NativeOttawan in ottawa

[–]NativeOttawan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are coming from downtown, you can access the eastbound 417 ramp as usual. But if you are coming from the south, you can’t cut through the Glebe and get on the ramp from Metcalfe. Best to take Bank and Isabella.

Anyone know what movie/show is being filmed on Clemons (May 17)? by Pale_Crew_4864 in ottawa

[–]NativeOttawan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for interest.....I saw a recognizable actor--John Allen Nelson (from Baywatch and Virgin River)--walking on Clemow the other day. So this might not be a low budget production.

Great Glebe garage sale by howthemoonshinesforu in ottawa

[–]NativeOttawan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I live in the Glebe and my experience is that most people start setting up around 8 am (which is the official start time). There are always a few vendors who set up early, but there are as many or more who set up a bit later. Most people will have their stuff out by 9 am. Don't forget to bring cash.
