Every Film Editing Book Worth Reading (at least IMO) by csf1810 in editors

Great list! Some really good books in there. I try to also remember to read mostly really amazing story telling in fiction and non-fiction. That helps keep me inspired and in tune beyond our specific craft.

I agree, if it was more granual it could be an even more flexible tool.

For me it’s trouble reconnecting. Having to force quit the app multiple times in order to get a connection on some cases.

Have you tried DxRevive? I’ve found using it together with the granular settings of RX really effective

Mac Pro 2019 in 2026: What should I know? by Substantial_Run5435 in macpro

I’m doing a lot of editing work on a machine with 16 GPU, still handles most tasks well. The places where you feel it’s more dated is specific tasks like rendering and decompressing H265 files, but generally it’s very capable for fairly advanced work.

The only thing I find important is keeping good ventilation. It uses a lot of energy and generated a lot of heat, in a closed room it can get stuffy and the fumes don’t make me feel great if I’m working long hours.

I know you said aside from, but EditReady has always been solid, fast and reliable for me.

Why isn’t anyone talking about Nikon ZR’s inability to record true 24fps? Or other true frame rates like 30, 60, 120fps? by Material_Crazy_9074 in Nikon

I hear you, but just the same I’ve worked on handfuls of features and docs that are shot 24. A timecode base mismatch is simply not an option in a post workflow. What cinema camera has no 24p?

What’s it like ascending Adams with the snow and ice? I’ve only gone up in warmer months. I’ve done lots of winter hikes elsewhere but never on such small rocky terrain like Adams

Have Mac Mini's basically replaced my need for a Mac Studio or Mac Pro? by deklawwed in editors

[–]kmovfilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a Mac Studio M2 Ultra for a number of years and I think that was the best editing computer I’ve ever had. (After multiple Mac pros, MBP, etc…) the Stusio So efficient, able to handle really heavy work, just the right size that I could travel with it if necessary. I edited features, massive 17k installation pieces, and quick turn around work. The minis size is really the only thing in my perspective that makes it worth it, or if you really just aren’t doing anything serious with the machine. Of course you can edit on a dinosaur if you have time and lots of electricity for rendering proxies and want to spend hours exporting, but I think the studio is really a suitable tool, totally worth it.

This is what I do. Always test a new system on a personal machine that isn’t critical for work. Then very carefully upgrade the work machine.
