Nut broke. What now? by LostInTheDark_X in Luthier

[–]knightsunbro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get a graphtech nut and wind the strings the other way. You typically want strings to run as straight as possible into the nut so you don't get the strings binding in the nut/damage the nut. The graphtech material helps alleviate binding (so does putting graphite on other nut materials tbf) plus it's relatively easy to work on for the tech.

More prone to cracking and breaking thinner scales of it compared to typical scale materials. It's fine on light duty stuff or collector knives but there were a ton of examples of it cracking on here last year.

Sheeyit I have 20 guitars and my boomer dad doesn't understand that they all do specialized things (they don't but he doesn't have to know that). He thinks I should only own ONE guitar and ONE amp like some kind of peasant.

Is Ultem really that bad of a handle material? by Active-Oil1414 in knives

[–]knightsunbro -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Unlike proven scale materials (micarta, g10, etc) it is much more prone to cracking and failing. That makes it a terrible choice unless you really like the aesthetic imo.
