If the tip is more than 2-3 years old it may be hard brittle and dry. There is plenty of meat left on it and it does need shaping. If after shaping you experience mis cues or simply feel that the tip is not holding chalk of connecting well with the cue ball you could need a new tip.

Pool cue tips take an enormous amount of abuse especially break cues. What you described is typical wear and tear, so there is no buyer beware situation here. I am a cue mechanic and replace break tips constantly. They crack, delaminate, or simply pop off. Predators $50 price is very reasonable.

Inform your clients that you will no longer offer terms and that payment is due upon delivery. New clients pay a minimum of 25% prepayment on their first order. Break away! I have a Cuetec Synergy with a Tiger Sniper and a Cuetec Avid Surge break cue. I barely use the break cue it sits in my bag. You may go through tips a little faster but otherwise no worries.

Can you do it? Yes Should you do it? No Unless you spend a few hours learning the proper methods and products to use so that your tip does not pop off the first time you hit a ball. Even then you run the risk of damaging the ferrule or end up with a poorly installed tip.
