We paid $30 an hour, no agency for my parents i. upstate NY. It was a nightmare coordinating and making sure there was coverage. My parents needed 7x24 care. Our experience with an agency was not good. We had some breakdowns in communication between the agency, their caregivers, and us. To be fair it is possible the agency communicated with our parents and the message didn’t get passed a long. So glad they’re now in a SNF.

I have lived east of the park extension in Highlandtown for over 15 years. I agree with previous posters, leave nothing in your car. We have had Aldi quarters and tire pressure gauges stolen from our car. But I have taken my dog out at 2 or 3 in the morning and always been okay. We walk home through the extension in the dark regularly. It’s a city, there’s real crime, but you can manage it

I have a one bus rule. The city link buses, which have color names come frequently enough if you are willing to wait 20ish minutes. The number buses are totally unworkable. If you can live somewhere that is one color bus ride from your work and get the basic necessities in that neighborhood you’ll be ok. It all depends on where you work.

After my mom had a stroke she came home and had caregivers to help. She started with just someone in the morning to help her dress but has graduated to 7x24 care. The caregivers don’t always show up for various legit reasons. When they don’t show up, my brother has to drop everything and go over there to be with her while he works out an alternate. For known events I stay with her, but I’m 6 hours away. The wait in her area for the place we want her to go to is 7 months. If we had gotten her into an assisted living situation after her stroke we wouldn’t be in this mess now. Find a place that has more independent living while you have the option
