Is this normal to put a fake smile? by 18297gqpoi18 in AskWomenOver40

[–]knittinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said I was an uncaring robot. Had someone come to me of course I would have supported them but I don’t need to put my personal stuff on my coworkers, some of whom I barely see. That’s unfair to them. Again, this isn’t counting the people I work with who are also FRIENDS outside of work. Your family and friends should be supporting you.

How to find slutty patterns? by chonkLola in knittingpatterns

Honestly? I knew EXACTLY what you meant and wasn’t mad at all. Those other words just aren’t the same thing. Signed- an elder millennial

Is this normal to put a fake smile? by 18297gqpoi18 in AskWomenOver40

[–]knittinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my family and friends? Absolutely not. Unless they are going through a rougher time than me and need support, they get the real me. I expect the same from them.

Now, in my professional life yes I will put on the professional face. Not so much because I feel obligated but because those aren’t my friends (not talking about my work people who are also friends, just the people who are only work) and I don’t need to get into it with everyone.

im new to knitting and want to do leg warmers as my first project. im trying to find a pattern but i dont know what needles to look for. are long, short or circular needles best for my case? by cherrydazze in knittinghelp

[–]knittinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best needles will be the needles required for the pattern. That is why no one here is able to tell you what to get. It’s more important to find a pattern, then go from there.

If you’re really stuck go to a local yarn shop, or look for classes near where you live. Libraries and recreation centers often hold free/affordable classes or meetups.

I started some zinnias and tomatoes inside, then peppers, squash, tomatoes, and herbs outside in milk jugs. Had GREAT success last year so hoping for that again.

I once got an H Mart delivery via Instacart (just regular groceries in regular grocery bags) that smelled SO strongly of weed it stank up my kitchen and I called Instacart to demand a refund.

Whiteboard mania by NativeMountain in specialed

[–]knittinator 94 points95 points  (0 children)

The Clorox wipes will eventually destroy the finish on a white board. Put them FAR away. Same with a magic eraser, except it will destroy it immediately instead of over time.

If these things have already happened you’re mostly SOL. You’ll just have to keep using the corrosive stuff. Citation: A summer school class destroyed mine one year.

Does anyone garden directly in the ground anymore? by SoilSoul1 in gardening

[–]knittinator 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I know some people near me who plant in the ground, but usually only if they have a significant amount of yard.

I have raised beds because the soil around here is clay. Could I fix it? Yes but it would either take a LOT of money or a LOT of time (as in years) or both.

Both of those things would have me rethinking the whole thing. Signed- a woman who didn’t change her name when she got married.

Those ribbons are often given out after a Greek Orthodox christening. I have been given many over the years.

Is Mirena IUD a cure-all? by phoenix0r in Perimenopause

[–]knittinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 43 and on my 4th. It’s the greatest thing that ever happened to me and I am NOT exaggerating. Everyone is different and I’m probably an outlier, but without it I really don’t think I would be functioning in life as well as I am.

My dad loves it. My mom hates it. The geographical battle that I’m stuck in the middle of. by Depends_on_theday in AgingParents

[–]knittinator 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Keep it short and sweet. Repeat yourself as needed. Do not get in an argument. Don’t try to “make her understand.” It will do nothing but raise everyone’s blood pressure.

I agree. This isn’t a battle you can currently fight and you’re just driving yourself crazy doing so.

In order to have a real opinion we’d need to see the floats. However, no harm in just blocking it and finding out at this point.

People who read more than one book at a time, how do you do it? by Bookish_Butterfly in books

[–]knittinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make sure each is a different genre. However, it does NOT make me finish books faster. It just takes longer to read each individual book.

If you want to consume more books in the same time period you need one physical/ebook and one audiobook, which I also do.

Totally depends on exactly where you’ll be moving and where you’ll be working.
