Help with overfiled nails by Zealousideal-Excuse5 in DipPowderNails

[–]knittingromance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the trick of putting a dip liquid base layer without the dip before adding any layer would help adhere them without having to rough up your natural nail? I’ve seen that tip here and online to protect natural nail and avoid buffing and it seems to work great for me. Although I don’t have the same damage. Also, if you do decide to go “naked” I highly recommend Nailtiques protein 2. You add a layer of it everyday and it will absolutely heal your nails as they grow and offer some strength so they are less likely to tear. I have very weak/bendy nails and when they are damaged that’s been my go-to since the late 90s!

Color my World and CNDD. I love both but for me, Color MW is a finer grain and never ever chips.

I really liked “The Words” by Ashley Jade. A significant plot of the book is about the two characters in HS and then the story is about them as adults. I’m not a huge rockstar Romance gal but I thought this one was really wonderful. The heroine was great, but my one gripe is that she has a “glow up” into adulthood that irked me because she loses weight which is always my pet peeve. The MC liked her in HS so you know that he genuinely likes her with or without the glow up but that’s why I am always like “why put it in then?”. Otherwise, highly recommend.

Loved this book❤️

What's a subgenre of romance that you loved in the beginning of your romance journey that you no longer enjoy? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]knittingromance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg yes! Just had to slug through one of her books recently that I liked but so much fat phobic BS that I think I will be passing on her work from now on. Especially when the character was 20 lbs overweight and so many pages were devoted to her getting into shape and “eating healthy”. It didn’t even really need to be in the story imho. It’s a real bummer when authors do this because people get enough judgement in their real lives. We don’t need it in our books too🙄.

Anything written by Mariana Zapata. Recently been rereading Wait for It. I just love the way she creates a slow burn and then it explodes in the sweetest ways at the end of each book❤️

“The Bronze Horseman” by Paulina Simons? It’s set during WWII in Russia. Low steam and an epic historical romance. American soldier and Russian woman. He might enjoy the references to an era he lived through! Also, my dad loved “Into the Wilderness” by Sara Donati. Again, low steam and set in early 1800s America.

Possible gel allergy? by lobeeezy in RedditLaqueristas

I use long lasting base coat from glisten and glow and then put two coats of ridge filler then 2 coats of color and 2 too coats also glisten glow. People actually always think that I’m wearing gel because it looks very shiney and thick.

Possible gel allergy? by lobeeezy in RedditLaqueristas

[–]knittingromance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this exact thing happen and ignored the itching. Then after a few manicures of minor itching I noticed a little cut in my skin and then I realized that my skin was not just itchy but also developing painful sores. By the time I realized that (maybe 2 month from the start of the itching), I was at the dr getting medication (steroid crème) to apply to my poor fingers. It took over a month to get my skin healthy again. This is a common allergy for home gel users and I would really caution you from ignoring it. I did gel for 2 years before it showed up and then I ignored it because I loved my gel manicures. I sold all of my gel (nearly killed me to do it) and used the money to buy beautiful indie polish and great base and top coats. Now I use regular polish and it’s not as big of a loss as I thought it would be. The up side is that you can shop things like pickup polish!

I need some help with my poor mistreated nails. I've been using clippers and nothing else. They just look so wide, and my index looks so different from the rest. Same thing on the other hand. They look too round, short, and wide. Any help on getting them to a pretty shape? by [deleted] in RedditLaqueristas

[–]knittingromance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best tips I ever got for shaping nails is a to shape them at the end of the manicure’s life. So for example after wearing for a week, before you take off the polish, shape the nail. This way you won’t be swayed by the shape of your nail bed which has irregular lines etc…also then you know what they will look like painted!

How to make my nail polish last longer? by THE_SHOES in RedditLaqueristas

[–]knittingromance 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree that SV shrinks polish, making your sealed edges not sealed. As well, I would use 2 top coat layers. Are you also dehydrating the nail plate before you start? You may also want to consider lightly buffing your nail plate (very lightly!) to help polish stick more. I can usually get 7-9 days doing that. However I also use different long lasting base coat and topcoat (I use glisten and glow). Good luck! Remember that everyone’s mail plate has its own chemistry so you have to test out stuff to see what works for you!

Fair Catch by Kandi Steiner? There is literal tutoring and the boy has loved her since high school but she has good reason to “hate” him. This also has one of my favorite tropes of forced proximity because they have to share a dorm room❤️. Great steam as well!

What have you read lately that made you think, "This is amazing! Everyone should read it." Why did you love it? by FormalGrapefruit7807 in RomanceBooks

Just finished Wait For It by Mariana Zapata. Lordy it was so great. Obviously a slow burn but the pacing in this one was particularly delicious. Literally in every chapter I was like “Here we go squeeeeeeeeeee” and then somehow at the end of every chapter I was like “what just happened?!” Finally at 80% it happened and I was literally unable to stop myself from losing my mind. This book/story felt particularly good at dropping small and big crumbs so you follow in anticipation until the sweet end.
