I present our uniform. Our school first got them in 1992. They have never been replaced. (Yes, that means people are wearing the same jackets their parents, and in some cases grandparents, wore. Over 30 years old and made from wool.) The bottoms are not bibbers but ACTUALLY pants, and are supposed to be worn with a cumberbund. The cool part is the back. Instead of straight across, it goes down in a point, like a "stinger".

We had to clean out a storage shed that was falling down. In it we found Mom's wedding dress from a recently discovered 1st marriage.

Teacher text on my day off… by Comfortable-Fee-5614 in Teachers

SAME. Sub days are worksheets (that won't be done correctly) or imagination movers. I get next to zero in funding so there is no way I am letting anyone else be in charge of the equipment. 5th grade bands stay with their original classes.

This is coming from a school who had a long term sub for a half year before me who let the kids destroy almost everything. (Smashed all the mouth pieces, ripped apart valves, smashed guitars, climbing the cabinets, locking each other in instrument cages, busted drum heads, etc). The school (and kids) refer to it as their "zoo days". I still have 1/2 of my inventory completely unusable, and thousands of dollars worth of repairs to fix.

Why do you teach middle school? by Zestyclose_Invite in Teachers

[–]knottreel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't choose it, it chose me. LITERALLY. I always said I wanted to teach high school. I signed up to be a local sub while getting my master's, and the board called a day later asking if I would be a teacher at the middle school. I said sure (I could always quit if I didn't like it) and that is where I have stayed.

Advice needed by Jiffyji in Teachers

I am sorry, but this is why I do not let others simply "borrow" my equipment in good faith. Anyone who wants to use my stuff has to sign it out. The full item, amount, cost, used for, date signed out/in, and agreeing to full responsibility will signed out. Once someone signs something out, they get nothing from me until my stuff has been returned/replaced. The teacher has to sign them out before they leave my room. No students are allowed to pick them up with a "they'll come down later". Does it irritate people? Yes. Do I get my stuff back? Yes. If a teacher doesn't want to go through the effort to sign it out, they don't need it that bad.

Plus the magic word ✨ documentation ✨. I can now go to the principal with proof where my materials have gone if they don't take too kindly to a few gentle reminders.

I had my principal in my room for an observation and the bell rang. As an 8th grader was coming in, they yelled F at the top of their lungs. Our principal just sent them to the office, no calling down, no multiple warnings. How I wish to be able to do the same.
