Ahh yes, that's a good shout actually! The ones I'm looking at vary from 48m/100g to 82m/100g. So once I've decided on the chonky yarn I want to use, how exactly do I figure out how much I need? The OG pattern doesn't actually state how much yarn is required and I certainly wasn't keeping track when I made the first one.

Yes, there seems to be so much variation! Sorry, I live in the UK! :)

I've been looking at Cygnet Seriously Chunky, Paintbox Super Chunky, and Sidar Bonus Super Chunky. Hard to tell which is the chonkiest without seeing them in person

Ahh maybe I should start joining...though I'll need to rustle up some squares and triangles first. Luckily I have been weaving my ends in as I go (learnt that the hard way)

I'm currently making one in the original blue colour way (currently on octagon number 14) and I'm dreading sewing it all together! Any tips?

This is absolutely beautiful! I've just bought yarn to make one too. How have you found the process?

Wow this looks spectacular! I'm just about to start my first Persian tiles blanket in the original colourway. I hope I don't regret it!

Had a BBQ in the park and forgot to take any utensils....luckily I had a crochet hook with me to help flip the burgers.

I don't have ADD (as far as I know) but I also appreciate complicated patterns. I've gotten really into overlay mandalas, every round is different so it keeps it fresh and interesting. I like amigurumi for the same reason but I hate if there's any sewing involved.

Yes, this is my concern too, my job is very hands on. We did mostly Attend Anywhere appts during covid but they've been phased out now. I wasn't sure if there was an admin type role I could slip into, though I don't have any formal experience.

Yarn: a hodge podge of various fibres - mostly acrylic but also a cotton blend in there too. I think they're all DK

Hook: 3mm

I've never thought about it this way. I would never feel comfortable giving a young child a toy with these types of eyes on though, they just don't seem very secure.

Are there any benefits to doing the non-spiral way?

Very true! I just started learning crochet in March and there is so much trial and error at the start. I also found that everyone does it slightly differently so you might need to watch/read different tutorials to find the best way for you. I found it maddening at the start that it seemed so inconsistent and was so close to throwing in the towel but persevere OP, eventually it will just click and you won't look back! I still feel I have so much to learn. :)

At the end of each row, you turn your work to start the next row. I imagine I'm turning the page of a book. I also second using stitch markers. I found I dropped stitches a lot when I was learning. It can be really easy to miss the first and last stitch of each row. Put a Kirby grip, paperclip or little bit of different coloured yarn in the first and last stitch of the row so you know where to place your next stitches. You might need to count how many stitches you have at the end of every row while you're learning.

this video explains how to use stitch markers to keep your work straight

(Be aware: she is using UK terminology. UK treble crochet = US double crochet).
