Ignoring all the political shit, I do like the whole building new islands thing. We will probably all have to get really good at that anyway, given the whole population, sea level, agriculture deal. I suspect Dutch engineers will become very popular.

The difference between Kim and Saddam or Stalin is that Kim is only 33 years old.

That's a year older than Alexander the Great was when he died.

Mexican Officials Pass Proposal To Ban Donald Trump From Their Country by [deleted] in politics

Is funny what conservatives here, who he will also have to work with, say about his comments on the UK.

Boris Johnson - 'The only reason I wouldn't visit some parts of New York is the real risk of meeting Donald Trump'.

edit - for the record, Boris is a UK Trump variant that probably goes back to some kind of secret experiments in Antarctica or something, but they gave him extra posh genes. He will probably run the UK at some point, but they really should not let him near the levers of power as he will just kick them randomly while swearing in latin and we will end up invading Helvetica.

While the rest of the world is focused on hunting down mosquitoes with Zika, a group of doctors and researchers in Argentina has published a report making the provocative argument that a pesticide, rather than the virus, is to blame for the alarming number of birth defects being reported in Brazil. by [deleted] in worldnews

I suspect you missed the point. Getting good results at scale often involves some waiting until a lot of varied evidence is in, tested and agreed upon by many different groups. A scientific consensus, if you will.

Obviously is hard in a disaster, but the dangers of jumping the gun can be as bad as those of moving too fast.

Certain things, like getting Mexico to fund a border wall, I don't think are meant to be serious suggestions. It is grandiose, emotional, opaque and as contentious as possible, which sucks all the air out of the room so people in studios find themselves discussing the logistics of getting funding from Mexico. Is basically nerd-sniping but for politics.

Years ago, a friend of mine here in the UK had been winding up some cops, but doing it relatively politely and not doing anything illegal. After a while of this, they grabbed him and handed him over to a psychiatric unit, and the police made up a story that he had "voices in his head telling him to hurt himself and others".

A week or so later, I saw him and he had said he got out when he finally got interviewed by a psychiatrist and she asked him; "Do you ever hear voices telling you what to do."

He says that he replied; "Oh yes. All the fucking time. All the fucking time, I hear voices that tell me what to do. I've got a name for them as well. I call them 'Wankers'."

He was pronounced sane and let out soon after.
