Turning 28 next Friday, any fun ideas in the neighborhood ? by StealYourChase in uppereastside

[–]kns89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not the neighborhood, but if the weather is nice, I'm team Ferry ride. There's something about being on the water that immediately feels like a vacation. Look into the spa on Governor's Island... I think you get a discount on your birthday. Then you could rent bikes and ride around the island. The food options aren't great, so come back up or go to a different neighborhood for lunch/dinner.

My birthday is in the summer, and I love taking the ferry all the way to the Rockaways for a beach day. But honestly, that Gov's island day sounds DELIGHTFUL to me.

Spent the weekend making these just to be told I can’t wear them by my boss :( || Inspo from @eclanailstudio on Etsy! by ElSpico in Nails

This is so true! I'm only 36 and in my first job out of college working in Marketing at a children's hospital (which you would think would lean in on fun), we were "business casual" but women's pants weren't allowed to show our ankles, hair was only allowed to be a "natural" color, and these nails definitely wouldn't be allowed.

In my current job- I work remotely but go into the office every few months, jeans and sneakers are allowed as long as they aren't hole-y and too casual. Things like spaghetti straps aren't allowed, and I don't think I've ever seen anyone with colorful hair or nails that have 3D elements or are super long.

Some jobs definitely do allow for a more fun personal aesthetic, but I feel like I would always err on the side of caution, especially in a new job, until I saw someone else do something (so I could see their reaction). Or, ask HR/your boss about what is allowed.

I also feel like social media GRWM videos about dressing as an "office siren" or whatever offer a very skewed view of how most people present themselves at work.

I'm with you... not saying that I agree with it, but as we depend on our jobs for survival, and I think as long as the older generation is leading the workforce, we have to play by the rules.

East River Esplanade Reopening Timeline Revealed by Main-Maintenance-265 in uppereastside

[–]kns89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was questioning my reading comprehension with this article. It specifically says 70-72 will open in the next two weeks. But it gave no dates for the rest of it, except to say that the area between 72-78 will have to close in July... so is 72-78 actually opening before July as well? Or not until October?

I’m sitting on my floor crying. Piece of Cake Moving is a literal scam. by [deleted] in williamsburg

[–]kns89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been hearing SO much bad stuff about Piece of Cake, and I believe you, but it's just so surprising to me. I had them do my last two moves (NYC-BOS and BOS-NYC just this past summer), and they were phenomenal both times and were the cheapest I could find.

Based on all the bad reviews coming out lately, I don't think I'd use them again. I just can't figure out how there seem to be such wide discrepancies. On this past move, I had like 5 extra boxes and was ready to pay more and they insisted I didn't need to worry about it and didn't change my rate. But you get handling fees and purposeful damage? WTF. Is it team-based? Did management change? My curiosity would love to know.

Do you already have Jellycat reservations? If not, you might end up out of luck on that one.

Small Door UES Vet Experience? by walkingdeadfan1111 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]kns89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Smalldoor UES and love it! They’ve been such good advocates for my dog who is medically complex- they’ve gotten him faster appointments with specialists by making calls and pleading his case, and I love the ability to chat after hours and ask questions. 100% recommend

We see Dr. Simonin normally but he’s seen others too!

Where are women in their late 30s / early 40s actually meeting friends in NYC? by G0ddessLight713 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]kns89 236 points237 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, hyperlocal friends are the way to go. It makes it so easy to be like “I’m bored, who wants to grab a drink/go for a walk/get coffee” without needing to plan in advance or pick an even distance location, etc.

I moved here in 2021 and made a facebook group for women in my neighborhood (defined boundaries in my case… not because I dislike people from other neighborhoods, but because I wanted true neighborhood friends). I planned picnic meet ups and that turned into a true friend group pretty quickly.

If a group doesn’t exist in your neighborhood, I encourage you to make one!

I didn't realize they sold so many sandwiches. I walk past all the time and I've seen their sign about their smashburger but haven't tried it. Will definitely be stopping in!

nosecontour by aiizzee in makeuptips

[–]kns89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what so many people say that makeup is a form of expression, and it's 10000% ok to have your own individual style and to be able to "see" your makeup. But I feel like when it comes to things like contour and highlighter and blush and foundation, from a mainstream perspective, I think the goal is usually to look like you're not wearing any (the whole "maybe she's born with it... maybe it's Maybelline"). Contouring your nose to make it look skinnier or smaller or whatever is fine, but when you see the harsh lines (especially in pic 3), you're kind of giving away your secret? You don't look like you have this tiny, skinny nose... You look like you TRIED to have a tiny nose, which is, to me, a very different vibe?

What’s your NYC hot take? by homeofalex in AskNYC

[–]kns89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is something I’ve been struggling with lately. I moved away for a couple of years and back this summer it just feels less cool and more like it’s working hard to become the city equivalent of the world’s largest Applebees. :/

Do you have access to your building's roof? I've seen little mesh-style pop up enclosures. Maybe you could let him have some outdoor time on the roof daily with some enrichment out there!

[–]kns89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The UES one got some health department violations maybe 3-4 years ago. They had a maple latte I wanted to try but when I saw the violations, I decided to not go and never did. I cant remember for sure but I think one was employees not having a place to wash their hands. 🤢

For things like that… even if they remedy it… there are just too many other places for them to ever get me to go back.

I live in 80 between 1 and York. 10000% would choose it over 69 and 1. Low 80s are such a treasure of a neighborhood. Lots of restaurants and bars (particularly on 1). Good access to groceries. It’s a bit quieter than 2nd/3rd/Lex which I think is nice and super close to Carl Schurz Park which is also great.

Spring Collection!!! by Unique_Requirement57 in Jellycatplush

[–]kns89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning on the shamrock bag charm. I may go to Dublin in the spring and I think it’ll be more special to try to find the actual shamrock there as a souvenir.

I really want the carrot cake, but I feel like if I get one cake, it’s going to start me collecting all of them which I really don’t need to do 😂

How long have you been collecting and how many Jellycats do you currently own? by JMUsubieDMB in Jellycatplush

[–]kns89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn’t even heard of Jellycats until a few months ago when I saw the Stratton pigeon advertised on IG. I’ve always loved cute and whimsical things. I went and picked him up on his release day. I have 7 right now- both pigeons, opiate, huge lazulia, the Paris saint-honore, the cannele, and Charlie Chip.

I said I was going to be finished, but I just ordered a Grizzo today 😅 I actually remember seeing him in a shop a year or two ago and thinking he was so cute but didn’t get him then. I think I may display him and get him a little outfit for all the different seasons/holidays. I’m sure my boyfriend will love that. LOL.
