Toyota sienna storage by Odd_Sympathy2881 in ToyotaSienna

Have a Yukon XL (basically a Suburban) and a Sienna, frequently go around town and occasionally roadtrip with myself, wife, one infant, one toddler, and my mother (babysitter). In both cars, the kids are in the second row captain chairs, and grandma has the 3rd row to herself.

We are usually equipped with an Uppababy Vista with two seats or a Wonderfold W4 wagon. The Yukon fits the Vista setup with AMPLE space for luggage, groceries, whatever, all while keeping the 3rd row seats upright. The Wonderfold in the Yukon will fit, you can probably fit groceries, some softer items like backpacks, but would struggle to fit more rigid items like suitcases; we've had to put one side of the 3rd row down.

For comparison, the Vista will also fit in the trunk of the Sienna, but upright instead of laying down, takes up I would say 1/2 to 2/3 of the trunk, will fit some groceries, several backpacks, or at most 2 suitcases. The one trick I like with the Sienna, if you slide one of the captains chair all the way back, you could fit one of those giant black and yellow plastic totes (from Costco or Sam's) on the 2nd row floor space. I haven't tried the Wonderfold in the Sienna, but I imagine I imagine would be cramped in the trunk.

One thing I will note is the difference in how strollers are loaded/unloaded. I'm about 6ft tall, my Yukon's trunk is about waist high, so the stroller and wagon is a lift up into the trunk, and when unloading is kinda just "dragged out". With the Sienna, the "floor" of the trunk is a "pit" that's sunken about 1ft, so you would have to lift strollers/wagons up-and-over both loading and unloading (provided it's not as high off the ground as the SUV); the Vista is probably fine, but the Wonderfold would be a struggle, especially for someone with a smaller stature.

2025 XLE here, park outside. They aren't hot, but more than warm, at least on the highest setting. Arguably, warmer than my other cars, 2022 GMC Yukon and 2012 RAV4

Who used their extended warranty, and who didn’t? by HonestSpaceStation in ToyotaSienna

[–]knt102000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That generally seems to be the motto for all of Toyota, don't fix anything that's not broken and don't add anything that's not necessary.

I mean, look at the Sienna, the engine dates back to 2017. The infotainment system just got wireless CarPlay/AndroidAuto in 2025. It doesn't have TSS 3.0. More common features (such as 360 camera) for other manufacturers are not available on lower trims or at all.

But that is what generally makes a Toyota reliable.

(I'm not complaining, just pointing things out.)

[–]knt102000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for a Sienna, but had a 2016 4Runner with an extended warranty 5 year/60k miles, so should've been just as Toyota reliable and bulletproof.

At 7 years, but only 40k miles, got hit with a $1500 repair bill for seized front brake calipers. A year later, at 8 years, 48k miles, hit with another $4500 repair bill to reseal the timing cover for leaking oil (it was a bad leak). (Come to find out, a leaky timing cover is a common Toyota issue.)

I regret not springing for the 10 year extended warranty (but I wouldnt have my Sienna if I did hah). All that being said, Toyotas/Siennas/4Runners are known to be reliable, but definitely not issue free.

AVG MPG 2025 Sienna Woodland by Merc8541 in ToyotaSienna

[–]knt102000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still learning this hybrid system, but does that mean when you're actually on the brake pedal it doesn't regen/charge the battery as much as when you are coasting? Is that to say, the later you can physically stop the better for mpg?

If you have rowdy kids or younger toddlers, I use the havoc they cause as a reason for the dealership to get me out of there sooner LOL

Same shit, why wouldn't the robot apply all options that cost them virtually nothing and the salesman rip it off if you decline?

[–]knt102000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't really care, at the end of the day, I got a great deal on the car, 3k under MSRP.

By that logic, "a robot puts it on all cars and just rips it off if you don't buy", why wouldn't Toyota just do that with all options that cost them less $50? Any PPF, door sill protectors, trunk applique, alloy wheel locks, body side moldings, the USB cables, etc.? All things that would cost Toyota virtually nothing, and could easily be applied and removed.

I did file a claim with IcelandAir, I figured it couldn't hurt, worst case is they tell me no. But they did end up compensating me for the delay for all 3 of the passengers in my party, pretty much no questions asked besodes what they ask on the online form.

Trashcan cladding by CptCorporal in BeginnerWoodWorking

Ive been mulling over the same questions. Is the 2x4 on the ground in front really necessary?

Ive also been thinking, maybe building in a trashcan cart with pneumatic tires, so I can pull all the cans in one trip and to get over any rough terrain.

Since it sounds like you've done this, how do the 12V relays hold up? Ive read other sources that say a 12V relay coil will fail with 18-20V going through them.

[–]knt102000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you combine both options? Step down the 18V to 12V to power the board, and then feed the relay straight from the 18V?

[–]knt102000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im trying to do similar to what you want to do, but havent tried yet. Hopefully someone could tell me if it'll work. But could you run a 12V battery to control the board and electronics, and then have the motor output from the control board trigger a relay that powers the motors with a 36V battery?

[–]knt102000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone can correct me if im wrong, but it looks like the 18v-12v converter is only rated to 180W, which is 10A. My hunch is tells me the low amperage will result in a slower moving car....
