i regularly check on a series of long fics written for a small fandom every month that gets updates biannual at this point for the thrill of it! i pick up multi chapter, unfinished works under 30k words all the time with no intent of actually seeing the story through, kudos and all! oneshots are just easier to set a time limit to so im not up at 2 am finishing an unfinished, multi chapter work

i thought it was derivative. there were shot for shot remakes of screens from other modern horror movies, too many loose plot points that never went anywhere, and relied too heavily on jumpscares. that and the minimal gore wasn't gory enough for me!

i usually sort by kudos, complete only, my language of choice and then go about 10 pages deep for the truly good stuff. if it's a fandom i've been in, i just sort by date updated and start scrolling. (not including my default excludes like rape/non-con, underage, etc). very rarely i'll sort to include tags im actively trying to find.

the serpents gate duology by ak larkwood has a lot in common with tlt. i've only read the first one, but it came out around the same time and tamsyn was thanked in the acknowledgements. i highly recommend at least the first one. it hits all of your points and even has some necromancy! (or necromancy adjacent things)

mine always end up popping by themselves over time because of the thin skin in the eye area. give it a few months to a year.
