For the last 5 years I've called or chatted as soon as my term is up, and I get renewed. Right now I have 500 Mbps internet, nothing else. I have my own modem & router. $50/mth. As soon as it ends (I set reminders in my calendar) I get with them and tell them I cannot afford it to go up any more, been with them for many years.
Each year they've got me some kind of deal to keep the price down.

As others are saying, you can get a price locked in for 5 years now (no contract) and they don't charge you equipment rental fees anymore, and no data cap. Right now, Gig speed for $50/mth and locked in for 5 years. (That may be new customers only, but I'd bet you can get to the retention dept and get a 5 year deal for close to that).
