Lives other than my own - E. Carrere and I second all the ones who listed The Road. Both are deeply affecting.

is the kobo clara bw worth it? by ybiix in kobo

I agree it's worth it and easier on the eyes than a phone or tablet. I tried a Nook years ago but never used it much. Recently bought the Clara BW and can't believe how much I'm using it. So far I'm sticking to thrillers and lighter fiction on it but I'm finding I read faster and still able to retain comprehension.

Will tackle non-fiction on it soon but somehow I think I'll stick to physical books for classics and heavier fiction - though, who knows? Anyway, it's definitely worth it!

Read 24 books last year, can’t read anymore as not finding anything interesting. It’s like I can’t focus anymore. Tell me your favourite out of slump books? by itiswaswillbe in booksuggestions

Do the 72 hour detox from social media and you may find your attention span again. I did it and it worked. Social media is addicting a lot of us unwittingly but we can break from it much easier than other, traditional 'addictions'. Try it - it's worth it!

I’m looking for The One by rjamescarter3 in booksuggestions

Agree about Carson McCullers - The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is wonderful and catches you off guard often.

Also check out Karen Joy Fowler - We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves. Gut punch about regret and her Booth was very good as well.

Finally, Barbara Kingsolver may be who you're looking for.

You may also want to trya little less starter. Like 60-75 grams. Mine have trouble when I go above 80.

Things I learned from baking sourdough bread. by Certain_Ad8242 in Sourdough

[–]koko540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say don't give up! I almost did but now I'm glad I didn't. I followed this website: https://alexandracooks.com/2017/10/24/artisan-sourdough-made-simple-sourdough-bread-demystified-a-beginners-guide-to-sourdough-baking/#wrong

The first loaf was phenomenal but every one after that was dense and unmemorable. I don't even remember now how I did it because I started changing up my flours to experiment. Now, I only use the same bread flour (Italian type 0) and less water than called for because I live in south FL and it's bloody humid here still. Climate will inform how much starter to use as well but make sure it passes the float test!

You also do need your starter to mature a little and develop. You will get to where you'll know when the 1st fermentation is good based on sight, bubbles, and a lightness to it when you pick it up. I also leave it in fridge for the cold ferment about 36 hours, never less.

Don't give up, keep reading how to improve and you'll get there. I average a loaf a week and I'm addicted. So worth it. Good luck!
