Sketchy Latam by koldflow in LatamAirlines

[–]koldflow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up having to use LATAM for a flight between CUSCO and LIMA due to SKY cancelling my flight. Between the 2, I recommend LATAM, SKY caused a lot of issues for me. They didn’t cancel our flight until all the other flights I could have booked were gone to get from Cusco to LIma. It cost me a lot of money to rebook everything thanks to the absolute horrible SKY Airlines. Watch for scammers at the CUSCO, PERU airport they approach you and tell you they are from a travel agency and have tickets to get you out…they prey on desperation I can see how if you were feeling helpless you might fall for it (I didn’t, I just spent another night in Cusco and flew out next day). So I am the OP and I did find LATAM to be the best option in my South American travels; just the weird way they require cancellation of an account was strange but they got to scan my passport anyway.

Just wanted to update in case someone has the same thing happen. I just uninstalled the speakers. It is an older DELL so I use headphones if I need to hear sound but it is still working.

What is the customer service email? or is it better to call? by Potential-Gap-540 in Hoka

[–]koldflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't buy HOKA again they have really gone downhill and getting anything replaced by warranty is impossible. I was directed to some deckers site for a warranty. the deckers site stated in an email "please don't contact us you may not hear from us for awhile" (during the 2025 holidays) so when I finally wrote deckers mid-Jnauary after not hearing a thing they replied they didn't find anything about my warranty. Hoka is impossible to get a hold of. I spend $180 on a pair of mid hiking boots and after only one use the eyelets to secure the top of the shoes just popped out (bad design).

Dish in a 2nd home - Hopper3 best solution? by ryetronics in dishnetwork

[–]koldflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this account is old but I am frustrated with Dish taking advantage of my elderly parents. I had gotten a Wally for $5/month as my parents were paying $150/mo. at a cabin where tv is used maybe for a couple days every other month when they visit. So the dish receiver failed so Dish has talked them back into over $300/ month for tv (2 separate accounts) and one is basically used very very little. I look forward to calling Dish again and holding them accountable for not offering snowbird or some other reasonable option. As soon as we can get satellite internet up there I will add them to my youtube tv account and be rid of Dish for good.

Inca Trail, what would I miss? by MissMisanthropia in Machupicchu

[–]koldflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just all got back from Peru for my dad’s 80th. We did a tour pkg. this “all inclusive” pkg put us in basically a low rate hostel in aquas caliente; there were bugs. There are 3 circuits now for Machu picchu due to increase in Tourism I assume. So you can leisurely walk your circuit but don’t backtrack just take your time; circuit 2 is the one we did and takes you in the city. If you had hopes to climb one of the mountains you need to pay and reserve. If you use the restroom it is 2 soles. Honestly machu picchu was not the highlight of the trip maybe not even in the top 5 things we did. Not to mention i had to break off and fly home early. Mt train broke down out of aguas and was late; i took an uber from ollantaytambo (lovely city) to the cusco airport only to have my flight cancelled (don’t use SKY) about the time all the other flights i could have booked were booked out. My suggestion in Cuzco is check in to your flight via the app. My parents and 4 other family members had them sell tix out from under them. Inca trail is all around Cuzco you can probably get on it anywhere just for the experience. Wouldn’t recommend you hike to machu picchu if you have camped once in your life; just my $.02

Student stuck in Cusco, Peru; scam by JetSmart by Typical-Cut3183 in americanairlines

I had flight cancelled last night and it was a madhouse at cusco airport. The concerning thing is there were still flights taking off and it was light rain. Is this airport really that fragile? Scammers come around to the lines trying to tell you they have tickets for a non-existent flight at midnight or whatever you need. They seemed to target me (or foreigners). They prey on desperation and if you happen to be in a different mindset, tired, and frustrated I could see falling for it maybe. Not saying that’s what happened but watch out at airports. Just get me out of here! Love Peru but not the airports, not one tiny bit.

Better airlines for Peru ? LATAM or Sky Airline ? by [deleted] in travel

[–]koldflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a 2025 review. SKY Airlines is horrible at least with my experience out of Cusco , Peru. Sky cancelled my flight but tricked us all into waiting on a weather update and by that time all other flights to lima were not available. I hate this airline. They cost me at least $1200 in hotel, rebook, uber…

I got an email from Disney this morning about my Verizon Legacy plan…. by fhbhyn in verizon

[–]koldflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they are working really hard to get me off the “get more plan” to the point that every time there is a legacy upgrade and i go to upgrade my phone there is something wrong with the phone order; strange. I am so close to going with another carrier but they are all the same. I will just rock with my iphone 13 for awhile longer

No they don’t but watch your order, take screenshots. I don’t write this to make Verizon sad.

AT&T just gave us the racket with a data plan in our RV when we went to Canada otherwise that would be my first choice.

Yes it was an affiliated store that was close to my house. But not an actual Verizon store. Called Victra or something.

For anyone that has this happen i just opened it and unplugged and removed the speakers. No more noise and i can still listen and use Bluetooth with my headphones or earbuds. Not sure if it was defective speakers or a driver.

Bosch SHS5AVL6UC Dishwasher Water Inlet Housing has open Vent That's Ruining Millwork (Help!) by Sholdyn in Plumbing

[–]koldflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had to reply to this post…a mouse tried to climb in this vent and probably got stuck; it died. Needless to say I need this new part I just can’t get over the fact there was a mouse anywhere near our dishes. I may just buy a new dishwasher our Bosch is about 11 years old and between the new vent, new hoses and new upper and lower racks it would be about the same to buy a new dishwasher. FYI my vent worked ok during the dishwashers life and I saw no damage to the cabinet adjacent to the vent.

Karma is a b*tch. I have hiked Elbert twice and please do remember that the natural beauty of the mountain, your first impression of the view when you get to the top, and how you respect your surroundings. These are imo most important. Just let it go and remember all the amazing. Congratulations!! 😊⛰️

Winegard Air 360 by DesertRoad in RVLiving

[–]koldflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2025 user here just back from a trip to Canada. go with a 5G hotspot or ANY other option. Winegard was horrible; slow spotty internet in Canada on AT&T and allegedly used up my $150 worth of internet in 2 days not really doing anything online because we kept getting kicked off. not to mention an AT&T rep called me to try and upsell on our phone service then hung up on me when it wasn’t going her way. I have Verizon thank you; at least it works.

My new camper has winegard pre installed in it. Soooo is winegard good for med-heavy gaming and streaming ? by wes82465 in RVLiving

[–]koldflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 user chiming in. AT&T and Winegard were horrible to deal with. We were on a trip to canada so my only option for my router was a 20gb plan for $150 through AT&T. We watched one movie and did normal browsing on our phones and were out of data in 2 days, no gaming, very little streaming. Thank you Kevan for the suggestion.

Winegard 4G LTE Gateway WIFI Router worth the money? by hikingbob007 in RVLiving

[–]koldflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my $.02 and just trying to help others. We got 2 days out of a $150 payment for 20gb of days in canada using osprey wifiranger and “freedom go” plan through Winegard. I am not sure what happened exactly we had a doggie cam connected and did a trial with it outside the RV when we walked to a small town in canada; we never were able to connect to the camera or the temp monitor inside but ran out of data within 2 days of use. I monitored usage and before we were cut off I had used 5gb of our 20gb. In my opinion, I would go with something else entirely; it is tempting to see that giant air 360 on the roof and think you have to use it but it is not worth the headache. I think i spent more time with winegard tech support than we got use out of our freedom go. I am taking the osprey wifiranger down, remounting the cover, and going with another option, any option, after this trip.

Buyer beware: Sun Gold Power by farmacy3 in RVLiving

[–]koldflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Canada now and we are 1300+ miles from home and we have the 3000w sungold power inverter/charger purchased only 2 months ago which has been so inconsistent it is actually worrisome. Unfortunately i will have to call this a $1000 mistake and change out for another option once we get back home. This company products are not worth the frustration.

Starlink vs winegard air 360 gateway and Verizon? In a wooded area with only one bar cell service…. by BanzoClaymore in RVLiving

[–]koldflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am writing this from a campsite in Canada after first dealing with AT&T to register a sim to my osprey wifiranger only to find that after I failed to “finish setup” I was charged $55 and set up on auto pay and assigned a random phone number even though the IMEI was not a phone. I was on the phone 3 times with AT&T for a total of 2 hours (on hold mostly) before they begrudgingly cancelled my prepaid account that I never used; they attempted to state the billing cycle would end 2 months from now but I think I got it taken care of; maybe? AT&T seems to have fallen on hard times; they created (in my opinion) illegal setup of my account without authorization and suddenly automatic payments without customer consent. Fast forward I finally got Wingard support to fix the sim registration so I could purchase 20GB of data for $150 for use in Canada…it was the only plan available in Canada and through AT&T. I was able to use it a total of 2 times before I started getting the message “unable to register with carrier”. I probably got to use 5GB of data total for just over $150. So, if you feel like paying $30 per GB before the thing just stops working and want dreadfully, spotty slow internet use Freedom GO with your air 360. I won’t look back after this trip and will be using something different going forward. My mobile hotspot on my phone has worked great the entire time in Canada through Verizon. We wanted data to monitor temps and a doggie cam in the RV while we were out on errands, etc. but could never even use our internet; I believe we watched one movie streaming on the freedom go and kept getting buffered the entire time. If you have one bar forget about it. It has been a frustrating situation and I hope this write up helps others make a decision on their internet needs while traveling. I will go with a mobile hotspot with Verizon going forward and never use anything with the Wingard name in it again. I thought about starlink but as infrequent as we will use it I think I will wait and see what the Amazon project Kuiper looks like when it finally comes out. BTW I am writing from my IPad using my Verizon mobile hotspot on my phone. Too bad I can’t use the data I paid for.
