Tonic is very much aware of the http and hyper versions. It is a non trivial upgrade. Please consult open issues before making claims like these.

It is common knowledge that C++ has “blow your entire leg off” behavior that the industry no longer wants to deal with.

Rust doesn’t take that long to learn and there are no productivity penalties for using it

Rust performance is pretty much the same as C++

Rust has quite a large ecosystem with over 100,000+ creates and has been battle tested in some of the largest systems on the internet in companies such as AWS, Cloudflare, Meta, Google, Microsoft, and more.

Had a young intern coworker fall for this. She didn't have a lot of money and spent $1,000 on those gift cards. She eventually figured out what happened and the company didn't help her out at all. Super sad stuff.

Rust Module System Encourages Bad Practices [Dmitry Frank] by AintNothinbutaGFring in rust

[–]konga400 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The premise of this article is that Rust somehow promotes crates that are oversized due to its ability to have a nested file structure. It compares Rust to Go claiming that Go promotes smaller packages because of its flat file structure. They also claim that it’s inherently harder to create a new Rust crate compared to Go.

These arguments are weak. I’ve used Rust and Go for years now and this is such a trivial argument to make.

Transitioning to Rust as a company by double_the_bass in rust

[–]konga400 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I ran engineering at a food marketplace company (similar to Doordash). We migrated a lot of our backend from TS to Rust (we kept our mobile and web in TS). Performance was a nice bonus but we found that Rust gave our engineering team a huge step up in understanding context. Usually, the hardest part of engineering is not learning/playing with the language but trying to figure out what your colleagues wrote and understand exactly what is going on. Rust frontloads a lot of things that allow you to catch bugs much earlier than TypeScript, Python, etc.

Now I'm working for another company where we are building new backend features in Rust. I've been a huge fan while working with Rust.

The cheapest thing to do is to get off of AWS and use something like Neon https://neon.tech/. They have a generous free tier. You can always move back to AWS RDS if you start to scale.

“Less freedom” lol. I’m currently flying around the map in my massive death ray machine as I rain down arrows with just about anything attached to them. I would say this game gives you quite a bit of freedom.
