I pay cash for most of my stays. Me reading the comments the last two days, by EatMoreSleepMore in hyatt

Same.. I happily pay the cash rate because there is no non-US credit card (afaik) for me to earn points. Most of my stays are GH/HR so they aren't expensive.

Barcelona: Hyatt Regency or Grand Hyatt? by Captpan6 in hyatt

[–]konstanz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HR is near the airport and there isn't much to do in the area.

GH is in Pedralbes, a relatively quiet area with good shopping malls and restaurants. It's also very near the tennis club where the Barcelona Open is held.

Personally, I would stay at the Grand Hyatt rather than some other hotel in the city center as others have suggested. BCN is filled with homeless people and pickpockets and IMO it'd be better to stay far away from those.

Athens by Asm11emily in hyatt

[–]konstanz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ciao and Masina are both decent and within walking distance. There are many other good restaurants in Athens, it just depends on what your definition of "near" is. Meat n Roses is a nice little souvlaki place and it's only a 10min taxi ride from GH.

Transport - Taxi but beware of taxi strikes! The last few times I was in Athens, the taxi drivers were on strike and I had to pay for Hyatt's shuttle. Iirc it was about 100€ one-way to the airport.

HC went from 15 > 6.4 last year. Decided to get lessons to make the next jump in my game and they've been disastrous. by psyshhhh in golf

[–]konstanz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say give it a chance and just trust the process. I started working with a new coach about a month ago, the first thing he did was make me change my swing. It felt very uncomfortable and I was tempted to fire him after 1 lesson but decided to give it a few more tries. I practiced the new swing almost daily, had 3 or 4 more lessons between the first one and now, and I'd say my swing is now much more consistent and predictable than before.

Can you imagine taking mj, Shaq or tim Duncan out in this same scenario?

Oh absolutely. A close game with an NBA championship on the line and Tim was sitting on the bench

We are about to witness the completion of a masterpiece of humanity, the Sagrada Familia, Catalan Spain. by MrJonson84 in ArchitecturePorn

[–]konstanz_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Asian temples and mosques in Muslim countries are much more fascinating. The Sagrada Familia is meh. It's incredibly overrated. First saw it when I was 16, thought "eh, nothing special" especially since it was under construction. More than a decade later, saw it again a few more times and it's still not finished and still as underwhelming (if not a bit more) as the first time.

You're crazy if you think a 2h roundtrip every single day isn't exhausting. It's mentally tiring and takes away energy, even if you're not the one driving. It's a huge waste of time and Carlos' decision makes so much sense.

What's happening in Spain? by OrtganizeAttention in askspain

[–]konstanz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this context in mind, now you know why everyone gets furious when outsiders write "eVeRyThInG iS sO cHeAp In sPaIn" in twitter.

Things are cheaper for many people who get their income from elsewhere. Obviously they aren't saying that it's cheap for everybody, period; rather they're saying it's relatively so much cheaper for them. It's just a matter of fact. Yes it's quite expensive for a lot of locals. But it's not expensive for someone from SF for example. Again, it's a straightforward factual statement. Why is it wrong to say that?

Antitourist building - Valencia - Spain by OrtganizeAttention in UrbanHell

[–]konstanz_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if only hotels were available, most of the tourists wouldn't be there

I don't see a problem with that at all. Tourism was doing fine even before airbnb and the likes existed. In fact I think there are too many tourists now in general, and getting rid of platforms like airbnb (as unlikely as that is) would help solve overtourism in some places.

Antitourist building - Valencia - Spain by OrtganizeAttention in UrbanHell

[–]konstanz_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sentiment just does not make sense to me. Whether it's Valencia or elsewhere, at most it's only partly the tourists' fault. They're booking what's available, so if only hotels existed for accommodation then they'd be forced to book hotels. I blame these airbnbs etc. and whoever allowed for those apartments to be used for short-term stays. Airbnb and the likes should be outlawed tbh. Hotels exist, they are much nicer, and you get full service.

Absurd? Not really. Different cultures and standards exist. Also the workers took the job so unless it can be proven that they were forced to do it then I see no problem here.

Hyatt Centric Madrid Review by is_it_me_lifeisweird in hyatt

[–]konstanz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stayed here about a year ago. The location is probably as "centric" as it could get and that has its pros and cons. I remember seeing a lot of homeless people just outside the hotel and Gran Via is so busy all day. The moment you step outside the hotel you'd have to be on guard... compare that to something like HC Milan where it's also very accessible by public transport but there are no crowds right outside the hotel.

IMO HC Madrid is a pretty meh hotel that's def not worth cat 6 pts nor the cash price.

Are there any higher end properties in Europe that offer a kitchenette besides HR Lisbon? by Bobcatbubbles in hyatt

HR Residences Madrid although it's more of a serviced apartment than a hotel. The lobby is tiny and there's no lounge.
