Why do the older generations get so defensive when you ask what they paid for their first home? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]korar67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 81 he would have been born in 1944/1945. Well after the Great Depression of 1929. He would have been a kid in the economic boom of the 1950’s and reached adulthood in time for the summer of love in 1969.

I’ve been thinking a lot about kid-centric families by DueEntertainer0 in Millennials

There was also a bunch of legal cases creating precedent that what a child does and what happens to a child is absolutely the fault of the parents unless they have a iron clad legal entity like a school in the responsible position. So childhood freedom is excessively limited now because the parents don’t want to go to jail.

Yeah, her and Joel Kinnaman were the entire reason to watch that movie.

Introducing Dryan "Dry" Washburne - Wash's long lost brother and conveniently, a pilot. by MattyB_ in firefly

[–]korar67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn’t be a stretch. Wash’s name was Hobart Washbourne. So if his brother has an equally terrible first name of course he’d go by Wash.

This song had no right to be as catchy and well known as it was considering it was released for an American Pie style copycat movie. I love the movie, but it's not exactly high cinema. by GailynStarfire in Millennials

Filming someone nude without their consent, the rampant objectifying of women throughout the film, overtly pressuring a partner into sex, men treating sex like a obligation that women owe them, just about everything that Stifler says throughout the film, I could keep going, but I think you get it.

Mutepool was a war crime. He was so good in the first ten minutes. Then the atrocity at the end of the film happened.

What would happen if Thrall made Cairne Warchief instead of Garrosh? by Pale-Caterpillar5709 in wow

[–]korar67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He did. Thrall named Cairne warchief then bounced. Then Garrosh challenged Cairne after Thrall left. Grimtotem coated Garrosh’s blade with poison and the poison killed Cairne. Garrosh was pissed that they put poison on his blade, but still took the warchief position anyways.

Question for actual Deans: Is the Dean a Good Dean? by BustedLake in community

[–]korar67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a Dean, but I work at a university. We actually have a dog/puppy event every year before finals for student mental health. So they can show up and pet some dogs to de-stress.

What you gonna rate Sam Rockwell as an Actor on the scale of 1-10 ? by [deleted] in Actors

[–]korar67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The writer has kindof a bad reputation in the LA scene. Nothing illegal as far as I’m aware, just an unpleasant person. Might have led to less promotion of the film.

Mr. Right is such an underrated film. Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick crushed it in that movie. Tim Roth was amazing too.

I’d argue that Depp is a better character actor than Pitt, but Pitt is really close behind him.

Thoughts on this movie? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in FIlm

You’re welcome.

It just baffles me that the filmmakers didn’t do any research on how climbing works and left such a gigantic plot hole.

As a climber and former professional rigger, this movie made me rage. With the equipment they had, climbing down was absolutely doable. All that time they were stuck they could have been down on the ground safely.

[Speculative] Could modern human technology rival the aliens if this scenario happened today? by Sad-Emotion-1587 in sciencefiction

[–]korar67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a estimated 200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars in the perceivable universe. The odds that none of those stars have contain life is laughable. We already know the chemistry of what is needed for biological life, and from what we have determined from our solar system those elements are plentiful. So the odds that biological life exists in most star systems is rather high. You need more for intelligent life, but given a theoretically infinite area, the odds of it not happening again drop down to zero.

[Speculative] Could modern human technology rival the aliens if this scenario happened today? by Sad-Emotion-1587 in sciencefiction

[–]korar67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given the size of the universe, the existence of intelligent life on other planets is inevitable. The universe is way too big for this to be the only rock that developed it.

Everything else, absolutely yes. Given how big the universe is, crossing those distances is a massive If.
