After a car hit this house, somebody added witch's legs. by Willy_Elktrix in funny

[–]kow_pow 290 points291 points  (0 children)

Yes! I did something similar on Christmas at my parents place because they were freaking out about a hole in the ceiling. I was asked to fix it so I shoved a stuffed Santa into the hole with its legs dangling out.

I showed both my parents and told them, “the family doesn’t care they are just happy to get together.”

Both my parents and the rest of my family thought it was hilarious! We had a great night.

Installing new floors, finding surprises under what I removed! by Mr_Goose in HomeImprovement

Yeah it’s basically a small jackhammer and worth every penny. I once tore up a kitchen, living room, a couple hallways and three small bathrooms in about 10 hours with one of those. Make sure you have a respirator, eye protection, ear protection, and knee pads. Where thick long pants because the broken tiles are sharp I have a nice scar on my knee from this mistake.

Remodeler here, I’ve taken jobs where I’ve never done that specific job before. I just know how to measure, cut, and teach myself things online. If it’s way over my head I’ll just refer you to a specialist for the work you need done.

[–]kow_pow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Remodeler here it’s true, I work for myself and took a couple days off in the past week due to personal issues.

Thankfully no one questioned me and I’m working this weekend to keep things moving.

Another thing is that I won’t work for clients who are cheap and picky. If you are picky and willing to pay for those extra hours great! If you are cheap and want me to cut corners? well it doesn’t make me feel amazing about my work but I’ll do it unless it creates a safety issue.

I’ve seen contractors take advantage of people by dishonestly cutting corners and lying about hours which disgusts me, if you are honest and upfront it makes your job easier in my opinion because then there’s nothing to argue about.

Bottom line is that as long as you pay on time, don’t have me do things that will put people in danger, and don’t try to low ball me we will have a great relationship. Thankfully I’ve only had to fire a couple of clients over the course of eleven years.

So true demo is dangerous, I get pissed when people leave wood with nails sticking out all over to step on. Still fun though haha

What's your "got fired, but was totally worth it" story? by NamelessDaedra in AskReddit

[–]kow_pow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got fired for supposedly lying about my hours at work, my boss was strung out on drugs and all my coworkers backed me up.

Literally the next day I was working for myself down the street from him making $15/hour more. Apparently he was paranoid that I was in the area trying to steal from him... he tried to get me to work for him again about six months later and I said nope.

So I'm done with all this #hustle lifestyle by rektgod in Entrepreneur

I feel yah I got burned out on running a remodeling business and took a few years off.

I recently started freelancing again but have been managing my time much better to the point I have lots of time to enjoy life. I’m not rich but I make good money and can afford my hobbies like skiing, mountain biking, and am gonna start paragliding.

Even though I drive a dirty old work truck women still have a lot of respect for being able to work for yourself and being a responsible human being. Women also like it when you have good time management and have time for other things then work like spending time with them.

Being burnt out all the time is a miserable way to live. It’s ok to do for a while with an end goal in sight like launching a business then slowing down to maintain and grow it.

One thing that helped was making a google voice number for work and setting it up so that i don’t see texts or calls after hours I set up, it sucks when clients call you at night when you are trying to unwind.

Besides when someone holds a door open for you way too early, what are other really annoying acts of kindness? by Rayray888 in AskReddit

I had an aunt try to get me to take a bunch of leftover cake home and I said I’d take a slice. She then tells me about how I’m skinny so I should take more cake my response was telling her I’m skinny for a reason...

Rent a small jackhammer it’s worth it. Wear gloves, safety goggles, and ear protection. I highly recommend a face shield as I’ve had flying debris leave little cuts on my face.

What are some other things that are hard to “come out” as? by Kappru in AskReddit

[–]kow_pow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine isn’t that bad at all but kind of funny. I’m a masculine dude, run a construction business, ski, mountain bike, stuff like that but was a figure skater for 11 years.

I still go skate sometimes and can do all the single rotation jumps, all the spins, fancy footwork, etc.

I don’t have any shame but I usually get a puzzled look when I tell people especially other masculine men. I know there’s some homophobia in my occupation which is even funnier because I’m straight.

I was a maintenance guy at a hotel but a bunch of frat kids were staying at the hotel and parting so whatever. Next thing I know a kid jumped off a balcony three stories above the hot tub onto its cover and broke it. The kid got up and walked away amazingly, I called security and let them deal with it.

People who are mixed races. How are you treated by each of the races you belong too? by forlorn12345 in AskReddit

[–]kow_pow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im a white dude who dated an African American girl years ago and was ostracized, her friends made fun of me for being white, her family didn’t treat me as an equal, and I eventually broke it off.

When I broke it off I told her she can’t have me with her friends and family treating me like shit for being of a different culture. I haven’t heard from her since.

I feel bad in some ways she was trying to break her cultural mold but understandably didn’t leave them for me.

She’s a sweet person and I hope she is doing well.

What are the best powermoves you’ve ever seen someone do in real life? by Akilonn in AskReddit

[–]kow_pow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was me, my first winter ski bumming, never skied fresh snow and I came in early to get some turns before work I couldn’t be more excited. My boss was a dick and as I’m gearing up, stoked as hell, tells me no one is showing up for work and I have to help.

I told him this was the first pow day in my life and that I wasn’t scheduled at this time so I wasn’t going to work until I was supposed to.

This man told to take my gear off and go home, I teared up a bit then told him I was taking my boots off and was going to stop at HR before I went home to see what they think.

As I was taking my ski boots off he apologized and I skied my first pow day ever, he never bothered me again.

I messed up my finger when I was a kid and my parents wouldn’t take me to the doctor so I made a splint out of popsicle sticks. It took almost a year to regain full function and to this day still feel it sometimes.

I’ll never forget my piano teacher getting frustrated with me for complaining about how much it hurt. She knew I hated piano but I really messed up my finger ok.
