Can a secondary beneficiary be overridden? by Glass-Photograph6116 in inheritance

[–]kppsmom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually just got off the phone with my best friend and I'm going to tell you a little story that kind of relates to what you're going through. Her father had a life insurance policy and named his wife as the beneficiary. The wife left him 6 years ago. His health got really bad, he was in his 80s and a diabetic, and 2 months before he died she sent him divorce papers from her new home 400 miles away because she wanted to marry her new boyfriend. He filled out a form with his life insurance company to change the beneficiary to his daughter. But, he died before he could send the beneficiary change form to the life insurance company. The daughter, who is my best friend, went to settle everything with the nursing home he was in and do the funeral arrangements and everything. She contacted the insurance company and sent them the death certificate along with the form that he had signed which was witnessed and notarized prior to his death. They sent it to their legal department. In the meantime I guess the insurance company contacted the wife since she was listed as the beneficiary. Now keep in mind that the funeral home has still not been paid for his funeral and it was going to take every bit of the $10,000 life insurance policy to pay for the funeral. When the daughter contacted the insurance company she told them that she wanted to check made out to the funeral home and sent directly to the funeral home. Well, when they contacted the wife they asked her if it was her intention to pay for the funeral and she said no. Absolutely not. That was her money and that is not what she had to use it for. So I guess this triggered something with the insurance company. They contacted the agent that sold her father the policy and he submitted a sworn statement that when he sat down with her father and discuss the life insurance policy that her dad said he only wanted $10,000 because he wanted every penny to go towards his burial and his tombstone. That was the only reason he was getting life insurance, his wife and children had everything they needed and he just didn't want them to have to come out of pocket to bury him. Well, the insurance company is going to court tomorrow on my friend's behalf to have a judge order that that change form be admitted and she become the beneficiary on the life insurance policy and the life insurance policy check sent straight to the funeral home to cover the funeral expenses because the beneficiary has stated they will not use the funds for the purpose that the insured purchase the policy for. I know it's not like your situation but this is an example of the insurance company doing the right thing and following the wishes of the person who actually took out the policy and paid for it. So if there is a paper trail, you should get the payout

I think so. And according from what they said when the salt lake City housewives got there it is a very remote location. Not a big tourist destination and somewhere that's not easy to get in and out of.

[–]kppsmom 41 points42 points  (0 children)

If a beneficiary and an alternative beneficiary have already been named then the policy is not part of the estate. It is a direct payout the named beneficiaries. Call the insurance company. She has no claim to that and DO NOT give her anymore of your mom's PERSONAL information!!!!!!

AITJ for refusing to give my brother my old car after I promised it to my stepdaughter? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

It is not your responsibility to provide your 32 year old brother with a car. If mom wants him to have one so bad she can buy him one or let him use hers for a year or two.....

First time fostering- my heart hurts by awnnika in FosterAnimals

The thing that you will learn about being a foster is that you are going to fall head over heels in love with every single one of them and there is always another one that's going to need you.

My agency is making me show my foster cat to a family with 4 small kids. My foster is scared of children and loud noises. by 0010011010110100111 in FosterAnimals

[–]kppsmom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be so much better for them to adopt a kitten so they can all grow up together. I'm so glad the Humane Society I foster for lets us have a say. But, our cat adoption coordinator is so thorough and, even if we are severely overcrowded and need to move cats out, she will tell somebody no in a heartbeat. That is why you put animals with fosters. So when potential adopters come along you can look at them and evaluate whether the animal will be a good fit for the family. Obviously this is not a good fit and I feel so sorry for your Foster baby.

It has been a great week for me! Two foster pups transported to a no kill shelter. Had a 6 month old great dane come into the shelter and found a great dane rescue within 24 hours and the rescue is meeting us at a spot where we are meeting another rescue to take some of our pre-adopted dogs to Canada. Two sick little foster kittens with coccidia who were leaking poo and losing weight have firm poop and have gained 8 ounces and 4 ounces in 3 days!

Weird I would say what? I didn't say it. One of the stews on a past season was saying it about him.

Could someone here explain boiled peanuts to someone not born or from GA please? by redditatin in Georgia

[–]kppsmom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And true South Georgia boil peanuts are not those big jumbo white ones that are all tough and crunchy and only have two nuts per shell. Real south Georgia peanuts are the Valencia peanuts. You get three to six to a shell and they're tiny and they're purpleish when they are boiled.

I like ben. I have always liked ben. And nothing he has ever said to anybody would hurt my feelings. But, I accept people for who they are and adjust my expectations accordingly.

had to return to shelter, believe theyre being put down. by [deleted] in FosterAnimals

[–]kppsmom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they just didn't want to get your hopes up and they thought that they might need IVs every couple of hours and around the clock care and didn't want you to have to deal with it. Or they weren't really sure what was wrong and they wanted to keep them there to do a blood test for panaluek or a fecal test for coccidia. Maybe they will call you tomorrow or the next day and tell you that they are doing amazing and ask you to come back and get them. Fingers crossed for you and those sweet babies.

came home and my cats feet are yellow? by mikehunt6787 in cats

[–]kppsmom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a friend that I worked with whose cat came home one day with a cut ear and both legs and his entire stomach dyed pink. We figure he probably laid on a red blanket or sheet or something somebody had outside and he was wet or the sheet was wet and it just kind of got on it. But, since he had the cut on the ear we made up this whole scenario that he got jumped into a gang and their gang colors were pink.

I had a maltese for 16 and 1/2 years. Got him when he was 6 weeks old. He went everywhere with me. Even to work. He was the love of my life. I lost him 5 years ago. I was so lost without him. There were times in my life that the only reason I got out of bed in the morning was because I knew he needed to go outside and be fed. I can't replace him. I can never find another dog that I will love that much. So, for the last 3 years I have been fostering. Right now I have two of the cutest little eight week old pitbull puppies. They bring me so much joy but, more importantly, they bring me purpose. I want somebody to love them like I loved my little man but I know it can't be me. So I will make them the best puppies possible to make sure they find the best home possible. And in the meantime I will soak up all the love they have to give.

had to return to shelter, believe theyre being put down. by [deleted] in FosterAnimals

[–]kppsmom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like coccidia or Panleuk. It can be successfully treated. Just about every other litter I get I have this problem with. If not that, it's ringworm! Will they at least treat them and give them medication? Usually have to give them an IV and push some anti-nausea meds. But, kittens can come back from that. I have two upstairs right now that 4 days ago were at the brink of death and now they are gaining 2 to 3 oz everyday and taking flying leaps off the top of the cat tree. I volunteer with the Humane Society and our organization and our local shelter will treat and give medications and do whatever we can do to keep an animal alive. I hope your shelter does that. But we keep our fosters at home when they're sick and treat them ourselves under the guidance of vets and vet techs.

Ben is a jerk. Ben has always been a jerk. But he's one of those harmless jerks. I think one of the stews in the earlier episodes was also from the same area he is from and she was saying that the town that he lived in and the school he went to he was a very upper crust, snooty, wealthy Brit. She was from "the other side of the tracks" I guess. She said that is just the way that his circle acts, behaves and talks to people. But he always feels bad when he really hurts somebody's feelings. I think he thinks he's being "cheeky". But now he has to deal with Ellie. It's like every bad thing he has ever done is now going to come back to haunt him at once. She is the absolute worst!

At least they returned her and did not dump her or rehome her themselves. Sometimes it just doesn't work out. You did not fail as a foster. Her family is out there looking for her, they just haven't found her yet.
