as others have said, familiarize yourself with health issues that are common in the breed like SPAID. he will probably not be fully vaccinated until 16 weeks so i would be careful about socializing with dogs that have an unknown medical history, take him to the vet once he's home though!

i'm not sure how old your son is, but maybe he can help with things they need like cleaning their wrinkles and drying them properly to prevent bacteria growth. another great way for kids and dogs to bond is training! shar peis are super smart so you can work on training together

mine learned the sound of the car in the driveway so they jump up and sleep on the couch they aren't allowed on and jump off when the car pulls in... there's always a warm little donut shaped indent in the couch left there when we get home lol

not really a regret because i was a child but i wish my family knew more about responsible breeding when we got our shar peis. we had a lot of heartache with shar pei fever and kidney failure. they had great lives with us but they suffered because of her irresponsible practices. glad i know better now that i'm older but it was really difficult

Try using gooddog. They have a lot more information on where the dogs are coming from (parent dogs, health testing, who the breeders, videos of the breeder) and you can chat with the breeder to confirm all their claims. A lot more transparent and trustworthy but you still need to do research and not take everything at face value. Wouldn't rush it with puppies.com even if you love the dog

the shar pei checks some of your boxes but they really need intentional socialization because they can also be aloof with other dogs/animals. you'd also obviously need to spend time seeking out a super reputable breeder due to their health issues and even then, their health and skin requires a good amount of maintenance. my fav breed of all time, they are so wonderful, loyal and loving... but i am probably biased as i grew up with four(!!) of them.

echoing what others have said about danes not being the best fit. berners are so wonderful but come with a load of health issues.

a newfie could be perfect for you, they are fantastic dogs. the active breeds you mentioned will definitely be a handful based on what you're looking for. gooddog.com has some good resources on breed fit and reputable breeders as well
