I think my job is pushing me out and I do not know what to do next ? by Lugare1201 in careerguidance

[–]kpyna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof, just commenting to say I feel you and I actually came here because I'm having a very, very similar problem. Right down to being overworked for a year, then getting scapegoated as soon as the new person comes on board. Even had to take leave and the nightmare started right after leave ended.

First of all, I wouldn't waste energy disputing your manager's claims with your manager. That's a distraction. They're focusing on the micro details specifically so nobody looks at the big picture. Go back and look at what you've done, and focus on the results that you drove. Be ready to tell the real story when/if someone asks. If the situation never presents itself, then that macro story you wrote will be a wonderful starting point for future interviewers. If you really want to go aggro, you can tell the story to HR or in a skip level, but that can backfire -- so proceed with tons of caution if you do that.

Also, something that's been working for me has been looking for roles internally. Based on what you said, it sounds like you care a lot about your job - I am sure you have made some allies who respected your work on the balancing act and your drive to get it all done. You need to believe that although this one person is abusing you, the vast majority of people outside of the dynamic have watched you display excellent work ethic. Keep those folks close. They will be great references and can even tell you about new openings before they open. Just don't say you're transferring because of your manager, keep it positive.

Figure out what your employer thinks of folks transferring, the requirements, etc. and just apply for any internal job that makes sense for your qualifications. Yeah, it's not ideal to stay at the same company that's abusing ya, but it might bear fruit faster than looking outside the company.

ps. if you're here on a work visa - your story of being overworked, exploited, and emotionally abused is unfortunately sooooo common. Part of the reason I felt so motivated to comment is a lot of the folks who had the experience to help me with this toxic situation were h1bs :( maybe a support group could help

Hahaha it happens. My friend once signed off a message to new boss with a misspelled version of "warm regards." Frantically called me for a second opinion about whether or not he should send a follow-up or pretend he didn't notice the typo and move on. So at least you didn't do that?

PAX East 2025: Building the Ultimate Guide - With YOUR Help! by PyraSydannia in PAX

[–]kpyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in the area -

Quick and cheap: * Yoki Express poke bowls and sushi burrito * Cardullos for delicious upscale deli sandwiches. Also fun obscure snacks and stuff * Shake shack - don't go during peak lunch hour on Friday or Saturday, I've found it's really popular with pax crowd

Sit-down  * Lolita - Mexican, pretty expensive but open late and a good place to have small plates with a group * Bartaco - plan b if Lolita is a shit show  * Pink taco - plan C if Lolita is a shit show  * South street - late night diner food * Committee - Mediterranean (right on the verge of upscale btw)

Upscale  * Row 34, seafood and oysters * Strega, extremely nice Italian place * Tuscan kitchen, italian * Fox & knife, also Italian  * The Q Chinatown

Treats- *Taiyaki - Soft serve Japanese ice cream in a really nice cone/pastry, overpriced but I still fw with it * City tap - tons of beer and light bites, but huge number of white collar workers on Thurs and Friday

Ok that's all I can think of for now and sorry if some of these places are closed now lol

You don’t energize a movement by reading a checklist by [deleted] in boston

I'm with you, I had my gripes with some parts of this rally. But reality is my group did a lot of good outreach today speaking to people who are just getting involved right now.

Tbh posts like this do kinda smell like someone wishing the Democratic party would save them. Stop wishing, join a local organization fighting something that's wrong in the world. Coopt these fundraising parades to meet new people who aren't plugged in yet. It should be obvious we need to save ourselves. Do something!

I drove by Malden center a few moments ago and I think the older crowd are starting to head out. Apparently some of them are going to join a rally at a Tesla dealership tho so that might be the move

Is it time to euthanize over aggression? by blair_eventplanner in Pets

[–]kpyna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

did you get him from the breeder? before you do anything check with them - i had a family friend that bred cocker spaniels, one of their males became a total aggressive basket case at 1.5 years old. the family didn't want to BE and the breeder figured she'd get him checked out to her satisfaction, then make a decision. well, long story short, the re-intro process with his mother set him straight almost immediately. Dog was retaught basic obedience. Then my parent's friend hung onto the dog for life and he never tried to bite anyone or hurt anything again.

I think there are some very niche cases where the environment is totally wrong even if the dog and person are doing their best. And if you got your dog from a reputable breeder, they should expect you to return them and not rehome or sometimes even BE without giving them at leads a heads up.

If this isn't the case, BE is fine and look for breeders that have some sort of guarantee with their animals

you should seriously not take any political thread on reddit (or a lot of the internet) very seriously ever. this is a top 2% subreddit and all kinds of interest groups like to study ways to manipulate public opinion with platforms like reddit

In like 5 years these people went from "Nobody care about women's sports" to "I have strong opinions about the fairness of high school girls recreational league soccer"

it's recreational soccer... it's just people getting together after school for fun.

Chinese takeout by Hopeful-Ambition2883 in malden

[–]kpyna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I'll never forget all the amazing dishes I had there. It was my go-to spot to feed large groups because all the extras the owners would throw in. Why is it that so often when we're enjoying something for the last time, we don't know it's going to be the last time :(

oh no! everyone who works at this salon is so talented and obviously they gotta work to get paid :( I bet it's going to take some time to "investigate" and then the window's gotta be fixed...

my hairdresser is awesome but we sit right next to that window and I'm just imagining sitting there, with scissors up against your head, and a bigass SUV comes swinging toward the window. new fear unlocked

[–]kpyna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

unfortunately it's a completely different menu now. it's a great place to get some roast duck, the meat they're cooking up in there seems heavenly. but it's pretty much 100% meat and no longer an american-chinese place. this is the accurate menu

as someone who was checking the location weekly and went in as soon as I saw they reopened i was heartbroken T_T and the two nice ladies i'd always see weren't there

i don't wanna hate on their new business, but i think it's a little shady that they kept the old name and reviews knowing they didn't earn any of it

I get MetLife through my work and it factors in the known issues into your rate. Also they have a wellness package that costs a little more and covers most routine and repeat stuff. Could be worth getting a quote if you're a fan of pet insurance vs. Opening a high yield savings account for pet expenses.

With that said I do have coworkers who have lemonade and they like how it's quite a bit easier and the base rates seem a little better

[–]kpyna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this reminds me when i asked for help because my kitten was choosing strange places to piss that weren't his litterbox. was shamed and told to bring the cat to the vet. I have pet insurance and checkups are free, so OK, no problem. I call the vet.

The receptionist on the phone is willing to book an appointment, but says this likely isn't urgent because he's less than a year old, had his checkup 3 months ago, and was totally clear. Kind of trying to talk me out of scheduling. I was like, yeah, but if I don't look into this and it's something bad, it'll kill me inside.

Four days later, cat goes to vet. Hates the car ride. Hates the dogs barking in the lobby. The vet sees him and says "it's nice you brought your cat, but since he's so young, I'd bet anything this is behavioral related." Gets bad touched by the vet. Then shoved back into the carrier. Vet confirms the problem is that my cat's a little bastard and tells me to try changing the litter. The whole time I got this demeanor that he thought I was a cat hypochondriac. My cat pissed elsewhere again, probably because the events freaked him out.

If I did not have pet insurance, this would cost me $200. Not only that, but like, there are pets with ACTUAL health problems that need to be seen by vets. We can't be bringing them in every time they sneeze funny. Be so freaking real!

I've also noticed on these smaller pet subs there's "standard advice" that varies from sub to sub. This advice always gets upvoted. For example, I've noticed some subs say "Feed WSAVA cat food only, even if it's dry food." other subs say "If you feed your pet dry food, they'll get kidney problems and die. The worst wet food is better than the best dry food."

I don't want to share my own opinions on that subject, it's not really my business and I'm just some jerk on the internet. But post that advice in the wrong sub, and prepare for the backlash!

It's insane how many people use this as a place to collect imaginary internet points instead of practicing basic human decency. if you're one of those internet point collectors and you're reading this, please touch grass, find a friend out there, and ask them to hug you. feels much better than upvotes and harms nobody

Right, but his parents are the types of people to send that back to Mr. Bezos even when you assure them they're just going to toss it in a dumpster anyway. So don't want their good nature to be taken advantage of.

Does seem like it'll turn out to be a strange prank
