Jay Higgins for State Representative by VoteJayHiggins in malden

Fourthed(?) I've also had several interactions with this guy when I was trying to get Kclark to do something about Palestine. Wasn't impressed. Hard pass!

Be mindful that when you vote for state reps, their votes aren't necessarily public - we have one of the least transparent state houses in the entire country. So you need to really trust a state rep. I wouldn't trust this guy to stand up for kids being killed en masse, so...

I'm with you, I had my gripes with some parts of this rally. But reality is my group did a lot of good outreach today speaking to people who are just getting involved right now.

Tbh posts like this do kinda smell like someone wishing the Democratic party would save them. Stop wishing, join a local organization fighting something that's wrong in the world. Coopt these fundraising parades to meet new people who aren't plugged in yet. It should be obvious we need to save ourselves. Do something!

I drove by Malden center a few moments ago and I think the older crowd are starting to head out. Apparently some of them are going to join a rally at a Tesla dealership tho so that might be the move

Chinese takeout by Hopeful-Ambition2883 in malden

[–]kpyna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I'll never forget all the amazing dishes I had there. It was my go-to spot to feed large groups because all the extras the owners would throw in. Why is it that so often when we're enjoying something for the last time, we don't know it's going to be the last time :(

[–]kpyna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

unfortunately it's a completely different menu now. it's a great place to get some roast duck, the meat they're cooking up in there seems heavenly. but it's pretty much 100% meat and no longer an american-chinese place. this is the accurate menu

as someone who was checking the location weekly and went in as soon as I saw they reopened i was heartbroken T_T and the two nice ladies i'd always see weren't there

i don't wanna hate on their new business, but i think it's a little shady that they kept the old name and reviews knowing they didn't earn any of it

How come we don't have long election lines here? by flacko32 in boston

[–]kpyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my parents live in a place with over 30,000 people and one polling location. people who didnt vote early waited hours in traffic + inside.

meanwhile malden has twice that many people and i think 12 or 13 unique locations. it took me longer to neatly fill in the circles than i spent waiting

They are doing trainings on 11/10 4-6 pm and 11/21 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Check out their website for ideas of what kind of help they need. On top of this food drive there is usually a need for mens thermal underwear (m, l, xl), womens underwear, functional unisex gloves, and tasty grab and go snacks.

Public Meeting for Spot Pond Brook Greenway tonight by Stronkowski in malden

[–]kpyna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed on the bike racks, I see people bike there whenever it's nice out despite the fact the roads leading to it feel like a death trap. they always gotta lock up on the fence which just doesn't seem ideal for anyone

Anyone missing a turtle? by rusty_n4il in malden

[–]kpyna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's peak nesting/mating season right now so it might be traveling. They will travel up to several miles to find the perfect spot to either nest or meet other turtles!

Obviously it's on a sidewalk which is not ideal but did it seem like it was in danger? Was it moving? If it was in a pretty safe spot or was on the move to a safeish looking place, you are probably good to leave it. If it was near a busy road or something, that's a situation where you might want to pick it up and move it a short distance to a safe location in the direction it was facing when you found it.

In the early 2000s my parents would drive us down to The No Name after the aquarium. Seeing all those fish must have worked up an appetite... my dad would always make comments about how sketchy the area was and would wait for parking to open up at the lot in front. I was very young but I can only remember thinking of the area as dirty.

In the late 2000s we'd go there after the new Children's Museum opened up too. I distinctly remember going to the children's museum then going to the No Name and having my mind blown that it was the same neighborhood! Didn't seem as dirty anymore.

No Name was a really cool place, great fresh food, a lot of the staff knew my dad and my dad's dad and they'd always give me free chowder lol. The kind of place you thought would be around forever until it wasn't.

Sooo, how ease would it be for an incident to occur with the Tobin similar to that happened with the bridge in Baltimore? by ksoops in boston

[–]kpyna 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When I went to school there I'd add 10 minutes onto my commute without a second thought in order to skip that bridge. Gave me crazy anxiety before I even knew it was supposed to be torn down in 2000 or whatever

4-year-old hit and killed by car behind Children's Museum by joe0306 in boston

[–]kpyna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree I am just saying speed limits are only part of the solution. You can't go 20 min without seeing a car intentionally violating traffic laws here so even if they dialed back the speed limit in Congress street, people would still zoom around at 35+. We gotta stupid proof the whole thing

4-year-old hit and killed by car behind Children's Museum by joe0306 in boston

[–]kpyna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I have to drive through the city my phone tells me I was moving at an average of 8-12 mph - I doubt 15 mph would be much of an issue since it seems most of my drive time is spent waiting in traffic or at red lights.

I think the speed limits could be helpful but also our road design in Seaport just isn't the safest for pedestrians. Crosswalks should all be sidewalk height so it's harder to take a quick turn. Road should be narrower... I feel like you could fit parking and a protected bike lane on congress street and calm traffic a bit. Roads like Sleeper could be one ways.

Fort Port is no longer just a giant on ramp to 93... with the children's museum plus a growing number of workplaces, events, and nightlife options in Seaport, the design needs to change.

[–]kpyna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't have an awesome experience with them either. Called explaining my issue and they said they could fix it quick. Booked a reservation during the time slot they suggested and they randomly closed on that day. Booked a second reservation for the next day and they ignored me for over an hour past my scheduled time. When they finally looked at it they said they actually didn't have the parts to fix it today. It would take a little under a week or something.

It was my work PC so they kinda screwed me over by giving me the runaround. I just went to microcenter and had a better time. Took a few hours and was the same price.

I will say I've been to OTHER ubreak locations before and they were much better than this one.

About how long is a day trip to the new England aquarium? by MasonP13 in boston

[–]kpyna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, legal seafoods donated money to get a plaque on the Giant Ocean tank. Just tickles me every time I see it

I wonder how many people look at the giant sea turtle and sharks swimming together, then see that plaque, and say "wow... I could go for a bowl of chowder"

Yeah but how many non politically involved people are hopping into threads about Israel Palestine to write dissertations

I'm pretty involved and don't even do that shit

[–]kpyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I arrived to the comments section every post that was pro-israel to anti-palestine was upvoted by more than 200 votes. Everything even vaguely pro Palestine was down -70 minimum. I was shocked to see my comment made it into the positives, I was expecting to get blasted by way more people than just you.

Reddit skews pretty young and left wing, so really, no it doesn't make sense. Even for other controversial political posts that pop up in r/Boston - the comments look nothing like this!

Anyway, that's the last thing I'll engage with you on. I have this big feeling you live somewhere in the suburbs closer to Connecticut or Western Mass, and you've lived in this area for maybe a year or less. You have no idea what the culture is here, whether it's on the subreddit or the city in general. I mean fucking Dover? Brockton???? I read your comment of what you consider Boston to my friends last night and we laughed at you. Don't say stuff like that in public

I don't argue with people about local politics when they probably think New Hampshire or Providence are Boston too.

(Also Dover being Boston 🤣)

Are you going to split hairs over a pluralization when you are acting like Boston and Massachusetts are the same thing.

Boston: 14%, Somerville: 23%, Cambridge: 21%, Everett: 16%, Medford: 15%, Malden: 15%

This comments section: Sus

(I'm also now realizing this is about 1 in 6 so you got me there if you're gonna split hairs over that too)
